Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors
To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.
- Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 06:50 on 23 February 2025) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

- Regarding 1725 entry:
- my wording: J. S. Bach led his Tafel-Music Shepherd Cantata for the birthday of Christian, Duke of Saxe-Weissenfels (pictured).
- was changed to: J. S. Bach first performed his Shepherd Cantata for the birthday of Christian, Duke of Saxe-Weissenfels (pictured).
- issues in the order of importance:
- "first" is misleading: this congratulatory work was meant to be performed only that one time (which is why Bach reused the music for his Easter Oratorio a few weeks later - the same way as he reused several other such works for his Christmas Oratorio - which to mention would be nice but I didn't see how while still keeping it short). I have no solution, sorry.
- Shepherd Cantata, the common name (and much shorter than the long German first line for a title) is a title and needs italics, imo.
- I added Tafel-Music, the type actually on the printed booklet of the text, to indicate in a short way that is was a scenic performance in costumes, which I found interesting. Again, I have no short other solution how to indicate that. Bedtime where I am. Good luck. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:30, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: I based my changes partly on the article itself – the lead uses the words "first performed" and "Shepherd Cantata" is not in italics – although I would agree that the name should probably be italicized here, and we can probably get rid of the word "first" in the blurb. On the other hand, I wouldn't include "Tafel-Music" in the blurb: this is useful but non-essential contextual information, and OTD blurbs are usually kept as short and concise as needed to convey the gist of the event being profiled. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 22:42, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
