Kuroda Seiki and unsourced claims
Hello Ser Amantio di Nicolao, I'd like to ask about the page Kuroda Seiki that you created in early 2006. When you made the article, the "Legacy" section contained (and still does contain) exceptional unsourced claims, specifically: Few artists have influenced Japanese art as much as Kuroda.
among other unsourced claims. Per WP:BURDEN, I've challenged them by placing them in {{cn-span}}
tags and tagged the section as needing more citations because I have reasonable belief that these claims are true. However, I plan to remove the info within a week's notice per WP:V and BURDEN. If I am mistaken in this tagging, please let me know. Thank you.
P.S: Happy new year. —Sparkle and Fade talkedits 07:08, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Sparkle & Fade: I'm the first to admit that my articles from eighteen years ago need a fair bit of work, but I don't have the time or the inclination to return to them now. Whatever happens, happens.

Happy new year 2025, opened with trumpet fanfares that first sounded OTD in 1725 (as the Main page has). -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:25, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

- Today, between many who just died, Tobias Kratzer on his 45th birthday who was good for an unusual DYK mentioning a Verdi opera in 2018, - you can see his work in the trailer of another one that I saw, and my talk page has a third (but by a different director). 2025 pics, finally. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:23, 17 January 2025 (UTC)

changes to Category:American communists
I noticed you recently removed a bunch of bios from this category and was wondering at the selection. I imagine it was based on a discussion somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it. Can you enlighten me about it? Thanks. -- R. S. Shaw (talk) 20:24, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- @R. S. Shaw: They are in the category Category:Members of the Communist Party USA, which is a subcategory of Category:American communists by political party, which is a subcategory of Category:American communists. dmy and shortdesc
I am honestly a bit surprised I'm the first one to post this here, but please make sure whatever version of AWB you are using us up-to-date; {{short description}} should always be the first thing on the page, and AWB should know this, and thus edits like Special:Diff/1267333194 should not be happening. Thanks. Primefac (talk) 17:25, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Primefac: Odd. I did this last night, and it was correct. And I've changed absolutely nothing in the setup between now and then. And there are no updates according to the tool.
- I'm leaving the house in a little while, but when I come home I'll play around with the module a bit and see if I can correct for this. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:32, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
Ser Amantio di Nicolao, check out MOS:ORDER. If you're using a tool or a bot to add that dating, sometimes those bots and tools have bugs. It's best to always double check those edits. Masterhatch (talk) 17:31, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Masterhatch: I usually check first thing. I guess a.) I was lulled into a false sense of security (see comment above), and b.) I just woke up (so maybe it's too damn early for thinking.) Regardless, I'll take another look tonight to see if I can correct for this. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:33, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- I noticed a space was also being added where there was no need for a space. Anyways, i fixed about 100 of the edits. There's probably a couple hundred more to go. Any chance you could help and fix a few? Masterhatch (talk) 21:47, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Masterhatch: Apologies. I've been out all day, elsewise I would have been happy to make the required fixes. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 07:04, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- No worries. I didnt mind doing it. I had some time to kill at work. Masterhatch (talk) 07:57, 5 January 2025 (UTC)

I went back over nearly 500 of your edits and fixed most of the spacing and MOS:ORDER issues. Almost every one of your past 500 edits had an issue. I also found 2 counts of you adding that dating template to articles that already had it. Please be careful when using bots as it takes a lot of work to go back and fix it. Masterhatch (talk) 02:17, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
As an additional request to this, can you please check for the presence of the Use dmy dates
template and remove it please. Just adding Use mdy dates
causes a template conflict. You will need to check the whole article, because there used to be a preference for putting the Use dmy/mdy dates
templates at the bottom of the article code. Thanks. - X201 (talk) 08:35, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- @X201: I do try to exclude for it - are there any examples in particular you're seeing where it's showing up? Either way I'll make sure to recheck my data in a bit. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 22:52, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

It looks like the software stops giving milestone notifications after the tenth millionth edit (per Help:Notifications#Milestone). Since you're the most likely out of any current Wikipedian to ever do so, I was hoping that maybe you could screenshot the notification and upload it if you reach it? Thanks. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 08:06, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Clovermoss: I will do my best to remember to do so in that as-yet distant future. (Not being facetious - as I get older I'm not sure I will remember this conversation tomorrow, much less that far in the future...) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:15, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- I'll try to remind you closer to that milestone then. It's definitely not going to be me that hits it, because my goal is to hit a million edits before 2100. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 02:56, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Clovermoss: Methinks you have time, then. :-)
- I should think there would be someone over at Commons, at least, who's getting close to the mark? It strikes me that it would be much easier with the way Commons is structured. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:35, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Either that or wikidata. I know of several editors that have a million plus edits on that project. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 05:40, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Clovermoss: Yeah, Wikidata makes it really easy, too. (I mean, I have close to 8,000 edits there, and I'm never actually there to begin with.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:56, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- By the way, now seems as good of time as any to mention that I'm honoured to be mentioned alongside you in this article. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 06:03, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Clovermoss: You're very kind - in turn, I have to say it's been a great pleasure reading about the work you're doing with mobile Wikipedia (I've used it myself - mostly to make on-the-fly edits as I read something - but I never could get used to using it on a regular basis.) And for working on the editor retention question - I agree wholeheartedly about the social side of things here, and wish that people would remember that being nicer about things could go a long way, sometimes. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:10, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Well, I don't know if you've ever seen it, but my essay about mobile editing is here. I usually use the desktop version of the site, but I've definitely done a lot of experimentation with the app and finding out its limitations. User:Clovermoss/Editor reflections is an interesting read if you're interested in some of the stuff I've tried to figure out about editor retention. I definitely think that being nice goes a long way! You never know what someone has been through. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 06:14, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Clovermoss: Thanks for the reminder, by the way - I've meant to contribute to your "Editor reflections", but somehow always forget until I'm away from the computer.
- Incidentally, from the article: you have recommended "a visual editor that doesn’t require any coding skills." I often tell people: one of the things that first attracted me to this project was the fact that I didn't need significant technological skills to participate, and that the coding was easy to understand. I feel like we get away from that too frequently; I'm glad to see there are others who recognize and remember that point. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:41, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah I feel like the point I was making there got a bit lost in translation. What I was specifically suggesting was that the mobile app should have visual editor (it doesn't). Source text on a small screen can kind of look nightmarish when you're used to WYSIWYG. Example: File:Editing on the android Wikipedia app.png. Despite that, I prefer source editing myself, even though I don't have any other computer science experience. The other thing to keep in mind about the app is that it expects you to memorize all these templates in order to use them. There's nothing like a dropdown button for
{{citeweb}}
. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 06:51, 6 January 2025 (UTC)- I'm sure the Visual Editor itself could be improved, even I haven't used it enough to know what its strengths and weaknesses are. I just wish it was available on the app because we have so many mobile editors nowadays and they don't even have that as an option there. I grew up in a world where people can use the Internet without having to learn anything special so that factors into my thinking there too. I'm kind of surprised how fast I picked up source editing but I was editing wikihow at 12 so I guess I just picked it up like a sponge then (they also use mediawiki, even if they're not affiliated with the wmf at all). Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 17:40, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Clovermoss: I don't know that I've ever used the Visual Editor - I think I tried it once and decided I didn't like it. I learned source editing, and that's what I prefer.
- I can't really speak to the mobile experience, as I really prefer working on the desktop whenever possible. For everything: I don't even enjoy texting, which I know annoys a number of my friends. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 23:25, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

The article Fontaine (singer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unreferenced and unimproved for 14 years. I can't find any reliable sources under Fontaine, her full birth name, or Saint Joan. Badly fails WP:MUSICBIO.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Bearian (talk) 03:26, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
Mislabeled image
@Ser Amantio di Nicolao, I'm putting this here since this edit to your userpage (I assume accidentally) is better suited here. Also courtesy pinging @पाटलिपुत्र. Heythereimaguy (talk) 22:17, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi User:Ser Amantio di Nicolao! This image [1] seems to be mislabeled. It is actually from Hierakonpolis, dated Naqada IC-IIA (3600-3500 BCE?). Please see (with photograph of the same artifact): Friedman, Renée; Van Neer, Wim; Linseele, Veerle (2011). "THE ELITE PREDYNASTIC CEMETERY AT HIERAKONPOLIS: 2009–2010 UPDATE". EGYPT AT ITS ORIGINS 3 Proceedings of the Third International Conference “Origin of the State. Predynastic and Early Dynastic Egypt”, London, 27th July – 1st August 2008. Leuven, Paris, Walpole, MA: ORIENTALIA LOVANIENSIA ANALECTA 205. pp. 159–161.
The Tomb 16 complex. Discovered in 1998–1999 by the team of B. Adams (2002a, 2004: 47–52), Tomb 16 is a large tomb of the Naqada IC–IIA period into which a bricklined tomb of the Naqada IIIA2 period had later been inserted in what now appears to be an act of respectful renovation rather than usurpation (Hendrickx 2008: fig. 5). (...) In all probability, the two famous ceramic masks also originate from this tomb (Fig. 2). Some fragments were found in the tomb fill, although the majority were collected in surface and subsurface levels to the west and especially to the south, where the beard to the smaller mask was recovered in 2010. Other finds from the tomb and its fill include carnelian ring beads, two biconical gold beads, ivory comb fragments, rock crystal blades, three transverse arrowheads and one tanged arrowhead.

- @Naraht: My understanding of the mdy- and dmy- templates is that they're not only to be used on articles with dates currently in the format; they're also there so that in future, if any incorrectly-formatted date is added to the article, a bot can troll through, discover it, and make the necessary changes. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:10, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- then I see no reason that they shouldn't be added to every article with dates on them in the entire of wikipedia, which makes them useless.Naraht (talk) 14:13, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Naraht: I think the argument is that they be added to articles for the countries where date format is traditionally considered. In other words, "mdy" for the US, "dmy" for the UK and various other English-speaking countries, nothing for countries for which there's no preference. I'm American, so I can only speak to the American context. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:16, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Still seems *way* to broad. I'm expecting that to be over 100,000 articles.Naraht (talk) 14:23, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Naraht: Perhaps, but as it's a.) bot-assisted for cleanup and b.) a hidden category I suppose it doesn't get as much consideration. Regardless: I know there was another effort a few years back to do a similar scheme for British-related articles, so this sort of thing has been going on for a while. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:26, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- I think I understand, sorry for the pushback.Naraht (talk) 14:29, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Naraht: Not at all. I don't mind pushback as long as it's polite. :-) It always helps to have to articulate what I'm doing to someone else - helps me work through my own process, sometimes. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:31, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Seems more like an overall category that attempts to affect editing of the article more than the article itself, but with the ability for a bot to "enforce".Naraht (talk) 14:50, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Naraht: I think it's not the worst thing in the world, given that we're closing in on 7,000,000 articles, to have a few tasks like this one that can be taken care of by bots. And if I can help facilitate that...well, why not? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:10, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

Weird coincidence
I am not logged in because I don't have an account, but my IP turned into the current one I am on now which then notified me of a new message on "my" user page which was a notification for vandalism (ONE THAT I DID NOT DO) which also led me down a rabbit hole of all the edit filters that this IP triggered. While I was going through the edits I found that whenever this IP made an edit, you were then editing that page within 2 months! This was not every time of course, but still very weird to see since when I went to your user page to see what was up with you, I found that your name comes from a book that has a very close version of my name in it. 168.212.247.249 (talk) 21:40, 23 January 2025 (UTC)

MDY
You're actually adding DMY to those articles. It's why I really don't think every article needs such a template. Remsense ‥ 论 18:23, 26 January 2025 (UTC)

- No, that's totally inappropriate. Many use MDY, and are not about the modern American military. Please revert these additions. Remsense ‥ 论 18:25, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Remsense: OK, I will shortly. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:26, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- I agree that it is best not to mass-add that. The 19th century US military primarily used mdy dates. Hog Farm Talk 18:39, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Hog Farm: I'll bear that in mind for future, thanks. And I'll go back and redo my recent batch of edits, but it'll take a little time. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:41, 26 January 2025 (UTC)

Hello, your recent edits have added the MDY template to articles that already have the DMY template - they appear to mostly be tennis articles. Seeing as date formats should not be changed on articles without consensus, can you remove the occurrences of MDY that were added please. You can find the affected articles by pasting this hastemplate:"use mdy dates" hastemplate:"use dmy dates"
into the search box. - X201 (talk) 08:35, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- @X201: Apologies for this - apparently I'm not firing on all synapses, as I had hoped I would be. I'll fix them, but it will have to be later this evening when I have a moment. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:42, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

Would you do me a favour? (if it's not a burden)
Good morning, @Ser Amantio di Nicolao!
I was wondering if you could perform a minor, automated mass edit to a bunch of various articles.
It's to remove every instance of [[Serbian Orthodox Church|Serbian Orthodox]]
on English WP and replace it with [[Serbian Orthodox]]
.
I request this from you as 1. I have noticed this unnecessary piped link on many articles I edit; 2. I'm currently not tech-savvy enough to perform this action and 3. I am aware you are someone who is well-versed with this type of quick, typographical, multi-article editing. If it is not a displeasing or lengthy task to you, I humbly request you for this task to be performed.
I would also like to thank you for all of your edits, in particular the minor categorical ones I have noticed on numerous occasions viewing the edit histories of WP articles. Cheers! 𝔅𝔦𝔰-𝔖𝔢𝔯𝔧𝔢𝔱𝔞? 14:55, 5 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Bis-Serjetà?: I'm happy to take a look, but it will likely be a couple of days before I can do so. Alternatively, you can ask over at Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks; if I can't get to it, then likely someone there can.
- Happy editing! --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:12, 6 February 2025 (UTC)

Space
Hi there, you left a whole lot of space at the top in articles like 2024 General Tire 200 (Sonoma), 2024 Focused Health 250 (COTA), 2024 Food City 300. Pretty sure you didn't do that on purpose. Coldbolt (talk) 21:42, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Coldbolt: I didn't, and I'm not sure what led to it...save that I'm using a new edition of AWB. So I'll keep an eye out for something similar in the next batch I do and see if it's something that needs fixing. Need Wikipedia page for my father
My father was Ben Light, 1911-1971, an athlete, coach of football, basketball, and baseball at the high school (Vincentian Institute, Albany, NY) and college (Ithaca College) levels, physical education professor, golf coach, graduate manager of athletics, college administrator (1st Director of Admissions, Secretary of Ithaca College, 1st Vice President for Development). Gym at IC named Ben Light Gymnasium in his honor. Charter member (1969) IC Sports Hall of Fame. Member IAABO 1930 to o/a 1964, and member IAABO Executive Committee. Charter member CBOA and CBOA Executive Committee from 1948 to 1964. President CBOA 1954-55 season. Etc.
I am 79 years old and cannot fathom Wikipedia. But I do have reliable sources for this information and more.
Could you recommend someone who might be willing to write a Wikipedia article for this notable athlete and educator?
Thanks,
CLLight CLLight (talk) 19:49, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- @CLLight: I'm afraid I'm not really into sports, and consequently am not really the best person to ask about this. I would recommend asking for advice over at Wikipedia:Teahouse instead. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 22:23, 11 February 2025 (UTC)

- Thank you so much for your reply, nevertheless. I will keep looking.

- That is what was on my computer screen when I went to the Wikipedia Teahouse page. Please forgive me. I am a technological cro-magnon, in completely over my head when it comes to understanding this stuff. That is why I am looking for someone who can write an article. Because I am too old to learn how myself.
- Grazie, amico. CLLight (talk) 18:02, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
- @CLLight: I'm not terribly active over at the Teahouse, but I'll see if someone can investigate and find out what might be causing the issue. I hope it's not something that's turning away other editors, and that it's some kind of a fluke.
- Meantime, the other place I might suggest going is Wikipedia:Requested articles. Sorry I can't offer more help otherwise. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 23:02, 12 February 2025 (UTC)

Request to Add Mary Ladd to the We Wai Kai Nation Entry
