I like File:User contributions detail.svg but it was removed from Help:User contributions today as outdated.[1] Can you make an updated version with the red and green numbers described at Wikipedia:Added or removed characters? Also, "diff" and "hist" have swapped positions. An often overlooked detail is that the arrow at a section edit summary is a link to the section. It's a minor issue but perhaps this could be mentioned. PrimeHunter (talk)
Invitation to Local Wikimania Event in San Francisco this Friday
Hi!
Wikimania is happening and hopefully you're enjoying the sessions. While it's fairly last minute, you're warmly invited to participate in the local Wikimania-themed meetup in the Wikimedia Foundation office this Friday (tomorrow!). You will have to register in advance, but we would love to see more people from the WikiSalon community participate! For more information and registration, please check out meta:Wikimania 2022/San Francisco Meetup.
The event will involve hacking, teaching, learning, and celebrating and we'll have snacks. We will have the opportunity to watch live sessions at Wikimania together in the afternoon. The rest of the day we'll have opportunity to participate in the hackathon, and we may have some on-demand workshops/learning sessions.
In case we run out of space, it's first-come-first-serve so let us know soon! Hope to see you there.

Do you know the Location of these wikisource servers?
Hi Pete, I wonder if you might know the answer to this question, from your work on WikiSource? Best wishes, Mary Mark Ockerbloom & John Mark Ockerbloom
I've been told about some Portuguese books on
pt.wikisource.org
and I'm trying to verify that there are no copyright issues with them. One book I've been told about was published in 1938 by an author who died in 1953, which means that his works are most likely public domain in countries like Portugal or Brazil, but the book is most likely *not* public domain in the US. Is pt.wikisource.org served from inside or outside the US? (And how could I tell where it's based?)
Thanks! John Mark Ockerbloom via Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 20:03, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi John and Mary Mark Ockerbloom, nice to hear from you, hope all is well. Hope it's OK if I take this discussion to email! -Pete Forsyth (talk) 21:32, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- Absolutely fine, I would have started there but the email link on your user page didn't seem to be working. All the best, Mary Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 15:04, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
Question about Newspapers On Wikipedia Project
Hi Pete,
I'm a journalist who's put a lot of effort into cleaning up the newspaper wiki articles over the past few years, especially in Oregon. I've seen your work with the WOW project and was curious what happened to it? Seems like the project started strong in 2018 and lost steam when the pandemic hit. Is there any interest in reviving it? I'd love to work with others who share my niche interests. Maybe there could be themed edit-a-thons centered around Native American newspapers? Or maybe a call could be put out in Facebook groups or subreddits for new articles or clean-up suggestions? There are also a lot of articles that are empty, filled with unsourced info or have unconnected and random facts. My hunch is that people in the past relied on info from the web, which can be scarce if the title is small. I've found great success finding details from Newspapers.com, although that costs money. But in my opinion, it's the best way of getting info about newspapers. The point is, there's still a lot of work to be done and I believe it's possible to finish what WOW started, but it's discouraging doing it alone.
Thanks, Eric Schucht (talk) 14:16, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
- UserUser:Hi Eric, thanks for the message. I've noticed your extensive and excellent edits, and meant to reach out for a while. I'm currently pretty wrapped up in a project, but will reply with more substance soon. Pinging Shanluan my partner on the NOW project) in case she wants to chime in. OK if I email you Eric? -Pete Forsyth (talk) 01:36, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
