October lichen task force newsletter
A look at what we've accomplished, working together | ||
As a subset of WP:FUNGI, the lichen task force is working to improve coverage of the world's lichens – unique organisms composed of one or more fungal partners with one or more photosynthetic partners. A growing body of evidence suggests that some of the roughly 1000 secondary metabolites produced by various lichens may prove instrumental in our ongoing battle against harmful pathogens. What a joy to find that my photo of Elizabeth Towner had turned into an article. I heard her and John talk about the apple and pear industry in the 1880s. (DYK that the Conference Pear won 1st prize at a pear conference? Hence the name. We have invited her and John to repeat the talk in my town. She will be thrilled to see her own article I reckon. Thank you. Roger aka Victuallers (talk) 23:48, 31 January 2025 (UTC) |
- Thank you for bringing her to my attention! Certainly notable in her own right, and on a very interesting subject. And great to have a good photo of her. MerielGJones (talk) 09:31, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Victuallers Thanks for the list of more interesting people to add! MerielGJones (talk) 10:11, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
- I paid for two copies of the document which mis-suggested that there was a photo of her. (The paywall was trivial but very silly). I'll respect the paywall and email you your copy for interest especually if you are intrigued by the Women in Red. (I love your lichen pix) thx again R and Victuallers (talk) 09:34, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Victuallers OK. Many thanks for your attempt! I added Evelyn M. Lobley yesterday. Now got a moss and Catharine Hodgkin as next things. MerielGJones (talk) 10:14, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
