The Dark Tapes is a 2017 American supernatural horror and science fiction anthology film, shot found footage style. The film starts with the mysterious discovery of "The Dark Tapes", which leads us into the wrap around segment titled "To Catch A Demon". "To Catch A Demon" is told in parts throughout the film, serving as a conduit to the other segments, titled "The Hunters & The Hunted", "Cam Girls" and "Amanda's Revenge".
Written by Michael McQuown and directed by Michael McQuown adn Vincent J. Guastini, the film premiered on April 22, 2016 at The Phoenix Film Festival. It went on to play in dozens of other festivals in 2016 through February 2017, and was picked up for US Distribition by Epic Pictures Group. The film was released theatrically on April 17, 2017 in select theaters, and released globally on VOD platforms April 18, 2017.[1]
During its festival run, the film received 61 awards and nominations.
Plot
The film is presented as an anthology of short horror films. A frame narrative, sometimes called a "wrap-around" film, links the stories and themes together, all using the found footage.
