In the past week since the phrase "Widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers" was added there has been a lot of edit warring between a number of contributors, with the phrase repeatedly removed then replaced. If it is to stand it needs a valid citation WP:INLINECITE 46.69.29.43 (talk) 14:18, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If i am not mistaken there was citations for this claim. Even though he is washed he made his mark as one of the best. Neuer used to be good but he is washed and still regarded as one of the best keepers as per his wiki page. 240B:C010:4C4:DB2E:9901:AFF7:5EA4:565C (talk) 14:20, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Phrasing like "Widely regarded" is blatant peacocking which does not belong in the lead. The lead should be focussed on facts, not on a generalised opinion by unidentified people. The facts in the lead make it obvious how he is/was regarded. and citing cherry-picked instances of publications saying "he's great" should not appear before actual, official awards and honours. If it's acceptable start adding individual opinions as evidence of "widely regarded", then it's acceptable to have other opinions as well. This is why these sort of additions are not acceptable. --Escape Orbit(Talk)09:39, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
