In April 2009, Naik's central campaign office was visited by the police, who were there prevented from arresting a suspect for whom there had been an outstanding arrest warrant for four months. Sanjeev Ganesh Naik (born April 15, 1972) is an Indian politician, who became the first mayor of the satellite city of Navi Mumbai at the age of 23.[1] He is the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Member of the 15th Lok Sabha from Thane (Lok Sabha constituency) in Maharashtra state, elected in the Indian general election, 2009, and is the son of guardian minister for Thane and NCP member Ganesh Naik.[2]

Education

Naik has a Diploma in Dairy Development and Management, and an Advanced Diploma in Computer Hardware and Networks.[3]

Political career

Naik was first elected mayor of Navi Mumbai in May 1995 at the age of 23, then again in 2000.[3] In 2003, he was elected mayor for the third time.[4]

During his time in office, Naik help lead the establishment of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport initiative and initiated the funding of the Morbe dam project.[3][unreliable source?] During his third term as mayor, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation was awarded First Prize in the first Sant Gadge Baba Cleanliness Drive, a state-level corporation contest.[5]

Naik defeated his main competitor at the 2009 general election, He wrote a message to the youth in Wake up-India Calling book written by Ranvir Bajpai, this book consist high number of young leaders of the country. His message “Our country is young. We have maximum number of youngsters, but it is our bad luck that youth of our country is into deep sleep. They need to wake up. Youth is the hope of this country.” “If I can do it, why can’t you? One man can develop one city, one constituency or one state. Only limited work can be done by two hands. I need more young hands to complete the job. If the work is done by this speed, then it will take number of decades to become a developed country. I feel youngster should join social service and politics and share their view and give their efforts for national interest.” [7]
