Summary

Description The R-1 was built in Springfield, Mass. and originally flown by Jimmie Doolittle. It set a new world speed record of 296 mph and went on a few days later to win the 1932 Thompson Trophy Race. The Granvilles donated their plans to the museum stating that they would be flattered if we saw fit to replicate their airplane, but stipulated that we never fly it and never loan the plans to anyone who wanted to build a flying replica.
