Escudo é formado por três ângulos na parte superior e um na parte inferior.

Suas estrelas, são respeitam a divisão administrativa do Estado. Ao alto, vemos uma estrela, com cinco pontas e um círculo central, onde se vê um barrete.

A paisagem em seu interior refere-se à simplicidade do povo paraibano: onde vemos um homem do sertão à frente de um rebanho, e o litoral, representado pelo sol.

Do lado esquerdo do brasão, vemos a cana-de-açúcar, e, do lado direito, o algodão, representando os príncipais produtos agrícolas da Paraíba. Esses dois ramos estão presos por uma fita, onde está escrita a data da fundação da Paraíba, 5 de agosto de 1585.

Este Escudo foi oficializado pelo presidente da Província da Paraíba, Dr. Castro Pinto, e é utilizado nos papéis do Estado como seu timbre.
