Time-Lines, Worlds, & Biographies
The reason got a username was to say this:
First, it would be very interesting if Wikipedia had a timeline somewhere on the page that could be scrolled and focused locating each page in time. This shouldn't be too hard even using your current page format.
Second, geolocate each page in space on a turnable and focusable globe. This (coupled with time location) is an order of magnitude harder but I bet it will happen (I'm also an old programmer).
Third, biographies of living (& dead maybe) people. This would be dead easy with your current pages requiring no alteration at all. I just don't know your attitude to someone entering their own biography as a site on Wikipedia. I'm currently writing my own bio and am done with the basics and the timeline. I would be willing to basically write the thing on Wikipedia and leave it as a site for edit, depending.
Let me know what you think. I'll be around. Odric-the-mad (talk) 02:46, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, I came here because I saw your question at the Village pump. On a "timeline", I'm not sure if this is what you're after, but try this, you might have to be on a laptop or in desktop view on your device for this guide to make sense:
- I'll use Sambhaji as an example: click "Wiew history" (top-ish right-ish), then "compare selected revisions" then expand "Browse history interactively". Hope this helps some.
- On an autobiography about you: In short, we don't want it, and will very likely delete it if you try to make it. If WP has an article about you, it is supposed to be a summary of (cited) WP:RS independent of you and about you, written according to our many many rules, including WP:BLP. It's usually very hard for people to write about themselves in a WP-acceptable way. If you want, you can tell me the 3 best WP:N-good sources about you you know of, and I'll give you my opinion on if an article about you has a chance to "stick". - Never mind then. And I didn't know Wikipedia had a famousness requirement. I'll adjust my opinions in the future. Odric-the-mad (talk) 06:26, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
- Alternatives exist, like EverybodyWiki. WP:ALTERNATIVE might be of interest.
- Famous and WP:NOTABLE aren't exactly the same thing, but they're not unrelated, either. If you intend to stick around, my advice is to just edit for awhile, to get a hang of this place. Making an acceptable WP-article is harder, you need some decent sources to begin with, and then summarize what they say. A few examples I started myself:
