I am concerned that this article no longer meets the good article criteria. Some of my concerns are listed below:
At over 9,000 words, WP:TOOBIG recommends that the information be split or trimmed. Is there any information that can be reduced, worded more effectively, or may be too detailed for an article on this general scope? Perhaps the "Museums" section can be reduced.
The lead, at 5 paragraphs, is longer than the recommended 4 paragraph maximum at WP:LEADLENGTH.
The article has uncited text, including the "Notable people" section.
Some of the sources in the Bibliography are not used as citations, and there are some sources listed in the "Further reading" section. Should these be included as inline citations or removed?
If there's no hurry, I think most of these can be dealt with relatively easily. I can help trim the "Museums" section as well as the "Landmarks" section, as both of these are covered at Landmarks of Marrakesh, so we can easily afford to condense them further here. (I've already did some initial condensing there a while ago.) I can probably also merge and slightly condense the 2nd and 3rd lead paragraphs to conform with WP:LEADLENGTH.
For the bibliography, any sources not cited in the article can be moved to "Further reading" for now. This just takes time to go through the list, so if you (or anyone else) spotted any sources like this, it would be helpful to mention them here and I can be moved right away. From a quick look, the works currently listed in "Further reading" are not cited above (Wilbaux 2001 is in the Bibliography as required, Wilbaux 2009 is not cited so it's in FR).
The "Notable people" section is a problem in a lot of city articles. I'm inclined to see it as non-essential content that can be deleted until someone is interested in re-adding material with proper sourcing, unless someone is willing to do it now? Any thoughts? PS: I've done some initial trimming ([1]), but more can be done. Another area I noticed that could be trimmed a little is the first paragraphs of the "Geography" section (e.g. the long quote in the second paragraph). R Prazeres (talk) 20:14, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've trimmed some superfluous material from the Geography section. The article is now just below 9000 words, which I think should be enough to satisfy the length concern for now, if we keep an eye on further edits. R Prazeres (talk) 18:23, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@R Prazeres: Thank you for doing this. I started adding cn tags, but saw above that you haven't addressed those yet. An editor will need to resolve the citation concerns and the other concerns listed before I would no longer be concerned about the article's status. Z1720 (talk) 22:33, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I've quickly added a few more inline cn tags in the meantime. When I have time I'll try to replace them with citations. If I can't verify some statements then I'll just remove them. If I've missed anything, feel free to add more tags or bring it up here.R Prazeres (talk) 21:43, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've been busy, so thank you for the reminder. Yes I can do a pass through the article tonight and maybe over the weekend. I'll either add sources where tagged or remove/replace the tagged statements.
The only place where I'd appreciate someone else's help would be the "Notable people" section: I can research the historical figures, but I'm not familiar with what sources to look up for the origin of all the modern athletes listed there. If no one can help on that, I'm personally fine with removing them, but someone with experience on the topic might be able to easily fix it. R Prazeres (talk) 02:50, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Update: alright, I think I've updated all the missing citations, with the exception of the notable athletes at the end of the article. These can be removed if no one else is willing to source those. R Prazeres (talk) 05:13, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
