| Object history | Deutsch: Schon das erste bekannte Stadtsiegel von 1498 zeigt das Wappen der damaligen Grafen von Löwenstein, nämlich eine Verbindung der pfalz-bayerischen Rauten mit dem calwischen beziehungsweise alt-löwensteinischen Löwen im geteilten Schild. Stadtherr war zu dieser Zeit Ludwig I., ein Sohn des Kurfürsten Friedrich des Siegreichen von der Pfalz, der nach einer nicht standesgemäßen Ehe von König Maximilian I. 1484 als Graf von Löwenstein anerkannt worden war und das Recht erhalten hatte, neben seinem angestammten Rautenwappen auch den Löwen der ausgestorbenen ältesten Grafen dieses Namens — eines Zweigs des Calwer Grafenhauses — zu führen. |
