Hedviga Golik (1924–1966),[1][unreliable source?] was a resident of Zagreb, Croatia,[2] who died of unknown natural causes alone in her apartment. Her body remained undisturbed for forty-two years until it was discovered in May 2008.[3][4]

Death and speculation

In 1966,[5][6] Golik prepared a cup of tea for herself[7] and settled down to watch television in her apartment in Zagreb.[8] At some point she died. Her neighbors assumed that she had moved away.[9]

Discovery of body

When the police finally entered her apartment on May 12, 2008,[10] they discovered her dead body sitting in the chair in front of her TV. Her teacup, which she had been sipping from, remained on a table next to her chair. Nothing in her home had been disturbed, though it was adorned with numerous cobwebs.[11] The police removed her body from her apartment.

Aftermath

Golik's body was buried the following Tuesday. Her story was picked up by several media outlets around the world.[12]
