Capitán Miranda is a town in the Itapúa Department of Paraguay, about 15 km north of the department capital Encarnación.
The Teniente Amin Ayub Gonzalez Airport is located just west of the town.

Toponymy
It receives its name in honor of first lieutenant Emeterio Miranda (1910 - 1935), a military Paraguayan native of Encarnación who fought in the Chaco War (1932 - 1935), he stood out for his bravery and bravery in combat, he was awarded 3 times He was discharged due to heart disease and for being wounded in combat, but he still always returned to the battlefield, until he died in combat in 1935 in the Piritindiva area (near Charagua, Bolivia). He was posthumously promoted to the next higher rank of captain and his ashes currently rest in the Fortín Gabino Mendoza. A street in Asunción also bears his name in his tribute.
Previously the town had the name New Volyn, in honor of Volyn, Ukraine, where its founders were originally from, until 1936 when it was changed to its current name.
History
The Captain Miranda colony was founded in 1914 and according to Decree No. 15,480 dated July 15, 1939, the Administrative Economic Board was officially authorized. Having seen the favorable report of the inspector general of municipalities and in accordance with Room 90 of Law 915, whose decree endorsed by the President of the Republic José Félix Estigarribia that agrees to the founding of the Economic and Administrative Board in the Colonia Capitán Miranda.
Geography
The Captain Miranda district is located in the southern region of the department of Itapúa. It borders to the north with Trinidad, Jesús and La Paz; to the south with Cambyretá; to the east with Nueva Alborada, and to the west with Encarnación and Fram.

Infrastructure
From the city of Encarnación you can access Capitán Miranda by taking Ruta PY06, it is about 10 kilometers from Encarnación. It can also be accessed by air with several domestic flights that arrive daily at the Teniente Amín Ayub González Airport.
