2022-08-28 10:08 | Diff · History | -3 | Tweaked Bengali IPA because according to Help:IPA/Bengali, the dental diacritic is not directly transcribed even though the [d] is dental (the dental diacritic is only used if a language has both dental & alveolar stops which Bengali phonemically doesn't have) - the [d] in Nepali is also dental but doesn't have the diacritic - and there is no [ɪ] phoneme in Bengali (might occur as an allophone of [i] in loan words but not as a main phoneme). |
2022-07-30 15:25 | Diff · History | 10 | →Climate: More tweaks, best to have the table below the information. |
2022-07-30 15:20 | Diff · History | 1 | →Climate: More accurate and more in line with the Köppen climate classification next to it, as there are many types of temperate climate and just mentioning temperate alone is a bit vague (in any case this still links to the temperate climate article). |
2021-10-15 09:28 | Diff · History | -3 | Revert addition of dental diacritic because most Wikipedia IPA transcriptions here exclude them from transcription (the diacritic is only included if the language also has an alveolar stop, which Bengali phonemically lacks). Also [r] in Bengali has different phonetic realisations because as the footnote in the IPA Help page explains, it can be either a flap, trill or approximant, so its better to use [r] rather than the flap/tap symbol [ɾ]. |
2020-11-09 15:43 | Diff · History | -1 | Minor tweak; best to keep IPA name short otherwise it may introduce clutter in the lead. |
2020-07-23 09:30 | Diff · History | -2 | Full dental diacritics are not normally used in IPA transcriptions on Wikipedia (IPA transcriptions like Hindi, Bengali, French and Spanish avoid this even though they also have the dental stops) so partially reverted change. |
2020-03-26 10:25 | Diff · History | 6 | Added stressed syllables in IPA's, please correct if there is any mistake. |
2019-11-10 16:11 | Diff · History | -29 | Unnecessary? If anything its far more relevant here than the English IPA which pretty much follows the spelling already while the Bengali/Nepali pronunciations have some differences from English (e.g. "r" represents a trill in those languages while in English it is used to represent the alveolar approximent). This was discussed in the talk page earlier this year and if you disagree with this, please discuss it with me there, many thanks. |
2019-10-30 10:18 | Diff · History | 1 | As per recent changes in IPA:Nepali, as ई phonetically represents an elongated [i], not a nasalised vowel. |
2019-10-27 12:02 | Diff · History | -2 | Changed IPA again as per Bengali alphabet and Bengali/Nepali ISO's which which the first bit as "dar" which represents the same in IPA form. So even though it seems so in first glance, r is not actually variable. |
2019-10-12 07:38 | Diff · History | 4 | Added small ʳ for both Bengali & Nepali pronunciations as it occurs variably for both from what I've listened. If incorrect, please either correct or revert this. |
2019-08-17 14:24 | Diff · History | 10 | Added "lang" in IPAs to shorten opening sentence a bit in display. |
2019-06-30 15:59 | Diff · History | -1 | Removed unnecessary bracket. |
2019-06-30 11:11 | Diff · History | 137 | Added an IPA and spelling of Darjeeling for both Nepali and Bengali as the pronunciation of Darjeeling is slightly different in both languages compared with English (see talk page); Nepali being the predominant language of the region and Bengali being the official state language. If there is any mistake in this, especially Nepali as there is no separate IPA guide for it, please correct it. |
2019-06-29 10:40 | Diff · History | 0 | Partial revert; people with Rhotic accents are likely to pronounce the r so replaced a with ar. |
2019-06-29 09:28 | Diff · History | -2 | As per provided reference, definitely worth adding a separate IPA for the Nepali pronunciation (and possibly Bengali too) - see talk page. |
2018-02-20 21:55 | Diff · History | 41 | →Economy: Corrected wording and added link. |
2018-02-11 11:22 | Diff · History | -7 | Removed a few single sentence/extremely short paragraphs as they can inhibit the flow of the page. Please see MOS for more detail. |
