Yusup Batirmurzaev (Kazakh: Юсуп Сұлтанмагомадұлы Батырмұрзаев; born 13 April 1996) is a Kazakhstani freestyle wrestler. He won the gold medal in the men's 125 kg event at the 2020 Asian Wrestling Championships held in New Delhi, India.[1][2] He represented Kazakhstan at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan and the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.[3][4]

Career

In 2019, Batirmurzaev won one of the bronze medals in the men's 125 kg event at the World U23 Wrestling Championship in Budapest, Hungary.[5] He won the gold medal in the men's 125 kg event at the 2020 Asian Wrestling Championships held in New Delhi, India.[1][2]

In 2021, Batirmurzaev won one of the bronze medals in the men's 125 kg event at the 2021 Waclaw Ziolkowski Memorial held in Warsaw, Poland.[6] A few months later, Batirmurzaev competed in the men's 125 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan where he was eliminated in his first match by Gennadij Cudinovic of Germany.[4]

In 2022, Batirmurzaev won one of the bronze medals in his event at the Yasar Dogu Tournament held in Istanbul, Turkey.[7] He won the silver medal in his event at the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships held in Astana, Kazakhstan.[8][9]

Batirmurzaev competed at the 2024 Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and he earned a quota place for Kazakhstan for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.[10] He competed in the men's 125 kg event at the Olympics.[11]
