Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tibet

Help Hello! Sir. Recintly I am trying to add some historical articles in Tibetan wikipedia(bo.wikipedia.org) but there is no any infobox templates which can be used in Tibetan wikipedia. Therefore, I tried to check all wikipedia articles which should be in Tibetan language from Himalayan regions like Tibetan, Buttanese, Ladhak, and so on. But it makes me feel very sad as there are lots of articles in Tibetan but no of articles with exact infobox template which can copied in Tibetan wikpedia. Sooooooo! If you could help to create any of infobox person or place template which can be use in Tibetan wikipedia, it will be a such big help for all of Tibetan language users. We are ready to appreciate for your great help, help of filling the big gap of Tibetan wikipedia. I am hoping we have an infobox template like Elizabeth II and I am also ready here to help about Tibetan language. Thank you.

Che Dalha

The name of the new Chairman of the TAR, known by the Chinese 齐扎拉 (supposedly transliterated as ཆེ་དགྲ་ལྷ in Tibetan), has been romanized as "Che Dalha" in some sources (Tibetan Government in Exile) but "Qizhala", which seems to be a straightforward pinyin rendering of his Chinese-transliterated name by others (Xinhua). Normally official Chinese sources use Tibetan romanization as opposed to using the pinyin of the Chinese name. In this case I want to consult the members of this wikiproject - what is the proper romanization of his name? This is a case where even reliable sources, such as the Associated Press, might be spelling it improperly; furthermore, is this one name or two names?? Colipon+(Talk) 23:39, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know Tibetan, but Che Dalha is the romanization used by the Time magazine [1], LA Times [2] etc. -Zanhe (talk) 00:14, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Panchen Lamas

The numbering system is incorrect, this is my 1st post so please forgive any mess up. The 5th DL recognised the 1st PL the +3 was used by Tashilhunpo & PEKING only. the Tibetans did not use this numbering. it started with 17 point agreement & was rtned to west in late 80s EVERY BOOK written mentions it[1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Breakingchina (talk • contribs) 18:04, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Interested in cleaning up an article?

Hi! I was wondering if anyone would be interested in expanding and improving sourcing on Red Guards in Tibet. It has sourcing, but it can always use more. I cleaned it up a little (it originally lacked any sort of true lead) but it would definitely benefit from being edited by someone who is more familiar with the history. Anyone interested? One question - are Lopa people and Lhoba people the same? Aditya(talk • contribs) 04:41, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No, they are not the same. Lhopa (lit. southerner) is a Tibetan name for non-Tibetan-related tribal peoples living mostly in what's now Arunachal Pradesh. The people of Mustang are related to Tibetans. Lhopa is written lho-pa, while Lopa is written glo-pa per this glossary. – Greg Pandatshang (talk) 19:28, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Would anybody care to create a stub for Tibet House, 1 Culworth Street, London, which "aims to reflect the aspirations of the Tibetan community ... and promotes the developmental policies of the Central Tibetan Administration ... based on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s principles of truth, non-violence and genuine democracy." http://www.tibet-house-trust.co.uk/aboutus/ (We already have an article on Tibet House in NY, NY, so this should be at Tibet House, London ? or Tibet House (London) ?) WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:58, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal - to separate the Tibetan Buddhism project and topics from current format

Although it is 12 years since WikiProject Tibetan Buddhism was put into a redirect to Tibet, there is now a sufficient accrual of material - articles and categories to justify a separate project, rather than the uncomfortable melding of the two projects, along with the confusions of 'ownership' by the China project. If the proposal goes ahead, this change/move will help differentiate the three scopes - china/tibet/tibetan buddhism - in a much clearer way than is found at present. Tibetan buddhism in the world is a much larger and complex subject and consequently scope, than being confined into a geographic context and part of the china project. Tibetan style guide regarding trailing punctuation in translation snippet

Is there style guide in terms of trailing punctuation in translation snippet? I observe divergent patterns:

  • Trailing tsheg (syllable separator) - Nathu La - རྣ་ཐོས་ལ་
  • Trailing shad (full-stop) - Semo La - བཟར་མོ་ལ།
  • No trailing punctuation - Tibetan Empire - བོད་ཆེན་པོ
  • Article with divergent puncutations - Lhasa - in the infobox, the image ends with a full-stop, while the text ends with a syllable separator

Updated Statistics on Numbers of Tibetans Living in Exile

The following page needs the statistics updating, it is more than ten years since the number of Tibetans living in exile was updated. Is there a process to make this happen properly? I am happy to help but do not know the process. I am happy to learn and contribute more effectively in the future. Please let me know how best to proceed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibetan_diaspora

At the end of the introduction: "However, in 2005 and 2009 there were estimates of up to 150,000 living in exile."

For example, is it possible to mark it as needing an update?

Help for some Tibetan names

Can somebody help with transliterating these two names in English/Pinyin?

  • གྲོ་མོ་སྨད་ཆུས
  • གྲོ་མོ་སྨད་

The Chinese name for this place is Xiayadong (27°25′46″N 88°55′39″E / 27.4293501°N 88.9274064°E / 27.4293501; 88.9274064). Thanks, Kautilya3 (talk) 14:55, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

See http://places.kmaps.virginia.edu/features/1753 . གྲོ་མོ་སྨད་ཆུས Wylie: gro-mo smad-chus, THL: Dromo Mechü, Tibetan Pinyin I think would be Qomo Maiqü. The second one is the same but without the last syllable. – Greg Pandatshang (talk) 18:35, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Greg Pandatshang. Does it mean "lower Dromo", like its Chinese equivalent? Is it a made up name, or an actual village/town? It is marked right next to Rinchengang, which is described in plenty of sources. But this name comes out of the blue. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 22:54, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Any rules on titles for temples/monasteries?

Hello, I'm from Thai Wikipedia and have recently been editing a number of articles about Tibetan Buddhism by looking for the same ones on enwiki. I found out that titles of Tibetan temples/monasteries on enwiki have inconsistent naming: some contain "temple" (Ramoche Temple), some contain "monastery" (Sera Monastery), some contain Tibetan term "dzong" (Gyantse Dzong), and some contain no notation at all (Jokhang).

The cases of Jokhang and Ramoche are particularly confusing for me as both are temple-monastery. Why so that Jokhang is "just" Jokhang (or referred to as "the" Jokhang) but Ramoche does not get the same treatment? Also, when would one be considered a "temple" and not a "monastery" (and vice versa) whilst some are temple-monastery kind-of complex? (Cases like Key Monastery is obviously a "monastery" but some are borderline imo)

In short: are there rules or consideration on these title naming? It would be extremely helpful to the neighbouring Thai Wikipedia community I try to improve. Thank you so much in advance. -- Chainwit. (talk) 05:47, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
