Welcome to the assessment department of the Martial arts WikiProject! This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's martial arts articles. The resulting article ratings are used within the project to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work, and are also expected to play a role in the WP:1.0 program,

The assessment is done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject Martial arts}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:Martial arts articles by quality, which serve as the foundation for an automatically generated worklist.

An article's assessment is generated from the class parameter in the {{WikiProject Martial arts}} project banner on its talk page:

The following values may be used:

• FA (adds articles to Category:FA-Class Martial arts articles; should only be used for articles that are currently listed as featured articles)
• FL (adds articles to Category:FL-Class Martial arts articles; should only be used for articles that are currently listed as featured lists)
• A (adds articles to Category:A-Class Martial arts articles; should only be used for articles that have made considerable progress upon the GA version, an article that is undergoing FA review would be A-class)
• GA (adds articles to Category:GA-Class Martial arts articles; should only be used for articles that are currently listed as good articles)
• B (adds articles to Category:B-Class Martial arts articles)
• C (adds articles to Category:C-Class Martial arts articles)
• Start (adds articles to Category:Start-Class Martial arts articles)
• Stub (adds articles to Category:Stub-Class Martial arts articles)
• List (adds articles to Category:List-Class Martial arts articles; should only be used for articles that are stand-alone lists)
• Template (adds articles to Category:Template-Class Martial arts articles; should be used for all martial arts-related templates - and specifically for infoboxes and navboxes)
• Disambig (adds articles to Category:Disambig-Class Martial arts articles; should be used for disambiguation pages)
• Redirect (adds articles to Category:Redirect-Class Martial arts articles; should be used for redirect pages)
• NA ( adds pages to Category:NA-Class Martial arts articles; should be used for non-article pages which are not lists, templates, or disambiguation pages)

Articles for which a valid class is not provided are listed in Category:Unassessed Martial arts articles. The class should be assigned according to the quality scale below.

To request assessment of an article, add the WikiProject Martial Arts banner to the article's talk page. The article will then appear in the 'unassessed' category above, and will be assessed in due course.
