Matt Tong was the lead drummer of Bloc Party. He is now the lead drummer of Algiers. Should Matt Tong continue to redirect to Bloc Party, considering the Bloc Party article does not mention Algiers at all? Bait30 Talk? 20:22, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
- Comment A quick search suggests he might just about meet WP:GNG and qualify for an article himself. That would send the WP:XY problem away, if anybody wants to put the work in... --kingboyk (talk) 20:30, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Bait30: Yay, you found your way to RfD this time. I have no opinion on the subject redirect as of yet. ;-) Doug Mehus T·C 20:35, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Kingboyk: If that's the case, should we "delete" per WP:R#D10 for redlinks to encourage article creation? ;-) Doug Mehus T·C 20:36, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Dmehus: That might be a reasonable suggestion; a better idea would be stop pontificating at XfDs and go and write an article on this chap yourself! :P --kingboyk (talk) 20:42, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

- Write the article. A couple of searches turned up enough to suggest he might get through WP:NBIO. Narky Blert (talk) 23:06, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
- Narky Blert But if the article isn't written by the time this closes, for clarity, you would support deletion? Otherwise, the creator (an IP address no less!) of this stinking redirect will get article creation credit! ;-) Doug Mehus T·C 23:17, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Dmehus: Definitely not. He's mentioned in Algiers, and retargetting there as {{R with possibilities}} would be an alternative solution to mine.
- Who cares who the creator was? I've seen articles which were started by notorious socks but have been kept.
- I don't have the time or inclination to work on this article: he's out of my field, and I'm currently working my way through some one hundred citations I have bookmarked on a notable person to get rid of the derivative ones which add nothing. How about you? Narky Blert (talk) 23:37, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

Relisting comment: There looks to possibly be weak consensus to "retarget to Algiers (band)" (it's unclear why all participants in the discussion thus far have WP:PIPEd links to there), but relisting to further establish consensus.

Total surprise for me personally, and probably for others. I was expecting a page describing criticism of the labor movement and attempts to undermine labor unions. Not this. This redirect should be either retargeted or deleted. — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs) 02:50, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

- Romance-speaking African countries → United States of Latin Africa (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: //delete ]
The first redirect was initially created as an article listing the countries in Africa where a Romance language was spoken, but that got nominated for deletion and the outcome of the discussion was for it to be redirected to the current target. The target is not an appropriate one at all as its topic is an obscure former proposed union of countries that encompasses only a fraction of the Romance-speaking part of Africa. I can't seem to find a suitable target though: there doesn't seem to be a place on wikipedia that explicitly lists the territories of Africa where a Romance language is used, and I'm not keen on the idea of say, rewriting Languages of Africa for the convenience of users of this redirect. If a suitable target isn't found, then the redirect should either be deleted or restored as an article. Pings to participants in the previous discussion: Underlying lk, Robofish, Spumuq, Black Kite. – Uanfala (talk) 19:07, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- Weak retarget to Romance languages#Modern status (note that we'd want to remove the hatnote there to Romance-speaking Africa). It does not give an explicit list, but it seems a reasonable enough target. --BDD (talk) 00:52, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- Restore the previous article, which served as a decent overview of Romance languages in Africa (with a nice map!). I agree the current target is not appropriate at all, and I'm a bit disappointed that the result of the AfD was called the way it was. -- Tavix (talk) 02:25, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- Restore article per Tavix. It gives a useful overview. As the map shows, Romance languages are spoken over half the continent; the current redirect is hopelessly inaccurate. I was surprised the AFD was closed the way it was. Narky Blert (talk) 08:57, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

- One world, one language → Language death (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: //delete ]
The phrase is apparently one possible English translation of the Volapük Menade bal – püki bal, a motto apparently associated with the philosophy of that constructed language. But it's also a motto associated with other undertakings (as revealed by the search results), and to most readers it would probably hearken to the general concept of a universal language instead (itself not to be confused with world language). That's all too vague and confusing to keep. – Uanfala (talk) 01:54, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

- White imperialism → Cultural imperialism (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: //delete ]
I can't be too sure about whether "white imperialism" and "cultural imperialism" are interchangeable with each other. I thought "cultural" is too broad to refer to "white". I can believe that, if kept, "white imperialism" should be redirected to either Settler colonialism, History of colonialism, or somewhere based on search results at Google Books and Google News. George Ho (talk) 00:18, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- Comment White supremacy would seem to be the target to use (or imperialism) -- 65.94.171.6 (talk) 08:06, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- Retarget to History of colonialism, which mentions the five main European imperial powers in the lede. White imperialism involves more than either culture or settlement. It is different from White supremacy, which includes e.g. the domestic history of the United States. Narky Blert (talk) 09:28, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- Retarget per Narky Blert. I think History of colonialism should be sufficiently broad enough to cover what it is conveyed by the term white imperialism. White supremacy is too narrow of a topic, so that wouldn't work. Imperialism, as suggested by 65.94.171.6 is far too broad as conquering foreign lands was not unique to Caucasian races. There is no mention of the subject of this redirect at the target, so the connection is unclear. -- Tavix (talk) 00:03, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- Delete. The only mention I can find in WP is in List of South Carolina Scenic Byways; a bridge was named after someone of that name; but that does not look like a suitable target. At least three people have borne that exact name; that one may be the onetime sheriff of Beaufort County, South Carolina (non-WP:RS source, Find a Grave). The hoodoo connection may be explained here, in an interview with his grandson (who shares his name). Narky Blert (talk) 09:42, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
