- 2018 Asian Youth Olympic Games → 2018 Asian Youth Olympic Games Qualifier (boys' field hockey) (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: //delete ]
There is no such thing as the 2018 Asian Youth Olympic Games. The redirect is to 2018 Asian Youth Olympic Games Qualifier (boys' field hockey) which is a bit hard to parse but should be understood as "tournament held to decide which Asian teams qualify for the field hockey tournament at the 2018 Youth Summer Olympics". There is no chance whatsoever that a reader looking for that info will search for "2018 Asian Youth Olympic Games". Pichpich (talk) 18:44, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
- Delete or
weak retarget to 2018 Summer Youth OlympicsYouth Olympic Games (YOG) is definitely a phrase referring to this event, however, Asian YOG or Asian YOG Qualifiers could refer to any of the qualifier events conducted in Asia, and it is not limited to field hockey despite that event showing up in search. triathlon [1] rowing/sailing [2] [3] [4] AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 19:40, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
- I could perhaps (and even then...) justify a redirect from something clunky like Asian qualifiers for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics to 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. But redirecting 2018 Asian Youth Olympic Games is misleading because it suggests that there is such a thing as an Asian Youth Olympics and because nothing close to that is mentioned in 2018 Asian Youth Olympic Games. Pichpich (talk) 21:22, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
- I changed my vote to just Delete as the events that use this add the title Qualifier, so this would be an incomplete title. I was able to get the other one concerning Oceania cleaned up and removed at 2018 Oceania Youth Olympic Games Qualifier (boys' field hockey) AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 17:00, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

- Delete. This is an R from move resulting from the original author creating the article under an improper title. Given that it was there for less than a week, the redirect can probably be safely deleted as R3. --Paul_012 (talk) 20:07, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Paul 012: This is way too old for R3 having been created in April. Thryduulf (talk) 18:13, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

- Keep. Plausible phonetic misspelling for those who don't know of the target article's subject. In fact, most times I have heard the target article's subject's name stated, I've heard either a "d" or "t" sound, meaning that readers could be equally as confused. 17:36, 23 June 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Steel1943 (talk • contribs)

Delete per WP:RFOREIGN, Chinese transliteration for a historic name of a North Korean city (開京/개경), the correct Korean romanisation would be Kaegyŏng or Gaegyeong, confusing given there are place names in China by this name as well as people's names. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 00:18, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
- Comment Chinese transliterations were historically used for Korean (and also Vietnamese), so make sure to check whether this got use anywhere (including old books and scholarly articles) before declaring no connection (I haven't done this, so this is comment not a vote). I also can't immediately find any places with this name, although it does seem to be the name of several hotels. Thryduulf (talk) 03:09, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Thryduulf: This is a Pinyin transliteration, which is a system that has only existed since the 1950s, I did check, and I could not find any evidence of such usage, I'm afraid I don't know what the equivalent in Chinese postal romanization would be. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 03:31, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

- Keep for the time-being. Kaijing and the Kaijin (disambiguation) page (now a redirect) seem quite distinct. If Kaijin has no other meaning, then a hatnote at the Japanese film genre could point to the Korean city (or to a disambiguation page should that be necessary). I agree that transliterations of Chinese names for Korean places can be useful in tracking and dechiphering historical sources. In some cases I have found myself more familiar with the transliteration from Chinese than with the transliteration from Korean. Just like it took me a couple of years to become comfortable with Beijing for what I had always known as Peking. --Bejnar (talk) 22:30, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

There is no such listing of dance or dances by country at the target article (I haven't checked whether there ever was, the redirect was created in 2010). There is a list at Outline of dance#Geography of dance (by region) so I propose to retarget it there, unless anyone is aware of a better destination? Thryduulf (talk) 12:36, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
- How about List of ethnic, regional, and folk dances by origin? That's about the only listing by country. Otherwise, List of dance styles. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 13:34, 8 June 2018 (UTC)
- Delete. The current target, Dance, has a section at Dance § Cultural traditions, but it is basically just a highly compressed WP:SUMMARY treatment of List of ethnic, regional, and folk dances by origin. None of the proposed re-targets are good matches. Outline of dance § Geography of dance (by region) is almost entirely redlinks, of articles fairly unlikely to ever be created (and there are plans afoot to AfD all of the "Outline of" or "Index of" quasi-articles as junk to clear out, since no one is working on them and they duplicate (very poorly) the purpose of WP:Categories and WP:Navigation templates. Next, List of ethnic, regional, and folk dances by origin is a subset; a "Dance by country" topic would include much more, such as modern dancing styles, dance as a performing arts category, the industry of venues for dancing, etc. And List of dance styles is not arranged geographically. It would be possible to create a regionally arranged article, so just clear this out to encourage its creation, and to not confuse readers in the absence of that article existing. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 22:17, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was hold fire. There is no consensus whether we should delete or keep at this stage, but there is a general consensus that article creation should be encouraged. Since the event is underway and will be finished within a few months, it seems premature to make a decision now. If this is still a redirect by the end of the year then we should revisit this discussion; hopefully someone will have created an article by then. Deryck C. 14:14, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
