Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- To list a technical request: the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
- If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Uncontroversial technical requests
- Spezand–Zaheden Line → Quetta–Taftan Line (currently a redirect back to Spezand–Zaheden Line) (move · ) – Quetta–Taftan Line is the official and common name per article and all other sources. امین اکبر (talk) 15:51, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Respect (2021 American film) → Respect (2021 film) (currently a redirect instead to Respect (disambiguation)) (move · ) – Respect (2021 Marathi film) (listed at Respect [disambiguation]) is currently a redirect to its director Kishor Pandurang Belekar. Per WP:PDAB#Film articles with no other standalone article, this page should be moved as no other articles exist for 2021 films named "Respect." JohnCWiesenthal (talk) 17:09, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Incursion (disambiguation) → Incursion (currently a redirect instead to Invasion) (move · ) – Not clear to me the game is the primary topic here. – Closed Limelike Curves (talk) 19:07, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- If such a move is being performed, then we should also rename the target to another title, preferably with a disambiguator, Closed Limelike Curves. ToadetteEdit (talk) 20:31, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Associated article moved to Incursion (game); anyone who can think of a better disambiguator can just go for it. I changed Incursion to a primary redirect to Invasion per Special:WhatLinksHere/Incursions (with terminating "s"); overwriting it to move the dab to base page name is totally fine by me. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 20:54, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- I think it is unwise to create a redirect at the freed-up title, because this will require G6 deletion because the redirect itself is pointless, and so the dab can be moved to the target title. ToadetteEdit (talk) 21:24, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Am I mistaken in thinking that the pagemover permissions suffice for taking care of that? Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 21:55, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

- Flail (disambiguation) → Flail (currently a redirect instead to Flail (tool)) (move · ) – Per consensus at Special:Permalink/1264131038#Requested move 13 December 2024. cyberdog958Talk 22:00, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Alfredo Ovando Candía → Alfredo Ovando (currently a redirect back to Alfredo Ovando Candía) (move · ) – The maternal surname is unnecessary here. Google ngrams shows the term without the second last name is vastly more popular both now and contemporarily. Krisgabwoosh (talk) 22:11, 20 December 2024 (UTC) Krisgabwoosh (talk) 22:11, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Typhoon Babs (1998) → Typhoon Babs (currently a redirect instead to List of storms named Babs) (move · ) – The article is obviously the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. It is the only storm to have its own article and has the most significant impacts out of the others, enough to have its local name retired. Running it through a move discussion would very likely result in unanimous consensus. ZZZ'S 02:20, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
- Arles county laois → Arless (currently a redirect back to Arles county laois) (move · ) – undiscussed, incorrect (the title was correct according to the sources) move to a malformed name The Banner talk 17:46, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Akbar Rafsanjani → Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani (currently a redirect back to Akbar Rafsanjani) (move · ) – The move on 15 October 2023 by a now indefinitely blocked user was undiscussed and unjustified. The article needs to go back to its previous title and be made consistent with articles such as Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani 2013 presidential campaign, Death and state funeral of Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, etc. Keivan.fTalk 22:36, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
Contested technical requests
- Khudafarin Bridges → Khoda Afarin Bridges (currently a redirect back to Khudafarin Bridges) (move · ) – Correct and more common spelling Persian. Consistent with similar articles such as Khoda Afarin County, Khoda Afarin Dam, Khoda Afarin District. 116.71.186.202 (talk • contribs) 14:34, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- There was a discussion at Talk:Khodaafarin Bridges#Common name in February 2023 which led to the current name. Although that wasn't a formal RM, it had a small consensus amongst two participants and was almost two years ago, so I'd probably label this one as potentially controversial. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 19:53, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- We can't ping IPs, but if whoever made this request is checking this page, you will need to use the "discuss" button in your request to continue with the move. Pages that had a title previously discussed aren't moved at RMTR in most cases because it's not clearly uncontroversial. Sennecaster (Chat) 04:13, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Asian Team Squash Championships → Asian Squash Team Championships (currently a redirect back to Asian Team Squash Championships) (move · ) – The correct order as per official tournament name OCDD (talk)
- I'm not particularly seeing evidence that that is the official name, still less the common name. It actually seems like simply Asian Team Championships is the name generally used, without mentioning squash in the title at all, so I'd probably favour a move to that since it's not ambiguous with anything else of that name. — Amakuru (talk) 19:57, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Syria TV → Syrian TV (currently a redirect back to Syria TV) (move · ) – official name Panam2014 (talk) 22:50, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- WP:OFFICIALNAMES is not a valid reason to move this article. Please could we have some actual evidence? I'm a little confused what "Syria(n) TV" actually is, anyway. The article says it's a channel, but it seems like it might be more of a network. Also conscious that "Syrian TV" could be a wider term referencing TV in the country generally. — Amakuru (talk) 11:51, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

- Lagardère Group → Lagardère (company) (move · ) – The company simply is known as "Lagardère" VenezuelanSpongeBobFan2004 (talk) 20:24, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- @VenezuelanSpongeBobFan2004 natural disambiguation is preferred over parenthesis. '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talk • contribs) 01:49, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- John the Baptist in Islam → Yahya ibn Zakariya (currently a redirect back to John the Baptist in Islam) (move · ) – He has a name in Arabic and it should be used. Nobody knows him by "John the Baptist" in Islam. I would argue that "John the Baptist in Islam" violates WP:NPOV Abo Yemen✉ 12:06, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- I object to this move for two reasons:
- You have not established that this fulfills our requirement to use the most common names from English-language sources,
- It appears to violate WP:CONSISTENT, since we also have God in Islam, Jesus in Islam, Zechariah in Islam, etc.
- JJPMaster (she/they) 13:18, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Abo Yemen; your technical request has been contested and as such, you will need to use the "discuss" button in your request to open a full RM if you wish to proceed. I suggest reading WP:AT over and expanding your rationale more and how it might better fit policy/guidelines if you do wish to proceed. Sennecaster (Chat) 04:28, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- I object to this move for two reasons:
- Mohamed Mustafa → Mohamed Mustafa (Sudanese footballer) (currently a redirect back to Mohamed Mustafa) (move · ) – Ambiguous. See Mohammad Mustafa (disambiguation) MSMST1543 (talk) 00:04, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- @MSMST1543 Your move was reverted so this is not uncontroversial. You can open a discussion by clicking the "discuss" link next to your request. C F A 02:52, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
