Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- To list a technical request: the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
- If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Uncontroversial technical requests
- Thừa Thiên Huế province → Huế (currently a redirect back to Thừa Thiên Huế province) (move · ) – The whole province became Hue city yesterday. This is an upgrade of a province to a centrally-governed city of Vietnam, not a merger of this province into the former Huế provincial city. Khanh Nguyen (talk) 08:04, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Ashworth, Lancashire → Ashworth, Greater Manchester (move · ) – Per WP:UKPLACE, currently in Greater Manchester not Lancashire. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:32, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Saving Grace (2024 TV series) → Saving Grace (Philippine TV series) (currently a redirect instead to Mother (Japanese TV series)) (move · ) – Saving Grace (Philippine TV series) redirects to Mother (Japanese TV series) ScarletViolet tc 12:57, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thủy Nguyên district → Thủy Nguyên (currently a redirect back to Thủy Nguyên district) (move · ) – The district was upgraded to a city yesterday. Khanh Nguyen (talk) 14:57, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Khanh Nguyen, are there any reliable sources reporting on the change? If it only happened yesterday, it may be too soon. ASUKITE 16:41, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- The resolution titled "Nghị quyết số 1232/NQ-UBTVQH15" of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of Vietnam was issued on November 2, 2024, which includes the content of upgrading this district to a city (municipal city). Yesterday (January 1) was the day this resolution took effect. Khanh Nguyen (talk) 18:04, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

- French ironclad Tonnante → French ironclad floating battery Tonnante (currently a redirect back to French ironclad Tonnante) (move · ) – Was created at the correct name per WP:NC-SHIPS § Ships from navies without ship prefixes, then moved by Svampesky to Tonnante, after which Llammakey tried to fix it by moving to its current name. Please note that a Dévastation-class ironclad floating battery is not a Dévastation-class ironclad, these are different types for the purposes of WP:NC-SHIPS. - Tunisia men's national under-16 and under-17 basketball team → Tunisia men's national under-16 basketball team (currently a redirect back to Tunisia men's national under-16 and under-17 basketball team) (move · ) – This article discusses the under-16 team only. Tunisia never played any under-17 basketball tournament. Maiō T. (talk) 18:33, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Muwatta Imam Malik → Al-Muwatta (currently a redirect back to Muwatta Imam Malik) (move · ) – The work has a shorter, just as precise colloquial and more common form that is actually more likely to be recognised as the name of a work, rather than potentially be confused with the name of an individual. I went to move this myself, but was inhibited for some technical reason. Iskandar323 (talk) 18:53, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
- Ministry of Women's Affairs (Syria) → Women's Affairs Office (Syria) (currently a redirect back to Ministry of Women's Affairs (Syria)) (move · ) – A double move from Office to Minister and then from Minister to Ministry was done by a moderately new user without any prior discussion. The current discussion has consensus to return to Women's Affairs Office (Syria), which currently doesn't seem doable without admin rights. The user did not respond to a ping on the article's talk page. Boud (talk) 18:38, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
Contested technical requests
- Gray Television → Gray Media (currently a redirect back to Gray Television) (move · ) – Per press release issued on December 30, 2024, the Board of Directors approved a formal name change from "Gray Television" to "Gray Media." A page called Gray Media exists, but currently redirects to Gray Television. The redirect should be deleted, the page Gray Television should be moved to Gray Media, and Gray Television should redirect to Gray Media, accordingly. But, this is a bit above my skill set. TheMediaHistorian (talk) 07:58, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
- This is controversial for a few reasons: The rename hasn't taken place yet. Even if it did, we need to see sources using the new name. Additionally, there's been discussion about renaming this at Talk:Gray_Television#Requested_move_19_July_2024. Therefore, a discussion is required to move this. - United States amusement park accidents → Amusement park accident (move · ) – WP:SINGULAR, article not supposed to cover only accidents in the US and contains lists that include global incidents, Template:Globalize placed to address the potential issue –Tobias (talk) 21:28, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- It's been at its current title for almost two years which IMO is a bit late to revert a previously undiscussed WP:BOLDMOVE. Unsure a case for globalization should be made here given the article currently only covers US amusement part incidents and Incidents at European amusement parks already exists in a much more advanced state. Note there is a previous version of the article that had much more thorough coverage of US incidents here before it was gutted in 2022; perhaps that could be fixed up.Further discussion would probably help here. - Venkateswara → Venkateshwara (currently a redirect back to Venkateswara) (move · ) – Correct spelling as per Hunterian transliteration Tstcikhthys1 (talk) 13:04, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Tstcikhthys1 Warrants a discussion. "Venkateswara" appears much more common according to ngrams. C F A 02:40, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- Ngrams can't be the only source used; this is a typo that needs to be fixed. Tstcikhthys1 (talk) 11:21, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

- Theodore Roosevelt III → Theodore Roosevelt IV (currently a redirect instead to Theodore Roosevelt V) (move · ) – To avoid current confusion: President Roosevelt's father was Theodore Roosevelt Sr., and while the same-named son did not commonly use a "Jr." name suffix, his same-named son, grandson, and great-grandson count Theodore Roosevelt Sr. as the first in the name order, not the President. Mrn5768 (talk) 22:56, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- This is a complicated rationale and definitely would require a full requested move discussion. In addition, there are previous requested moves here and here which make this move ineligible for a bold, undiscussed move per the requirements at WP:RMUM. You can start a full requested move discussion by clicking the "discuss" link next to your request. RachelTensions (talk) 03:13, 31 December 2024 (UTC)

- Hemipenthes alba → Hemipenthes albus (currently a redirect back to Hemipenthes alba) (move · ) – H. albus remains the valid spelling (see http://www.diptera.org/Nomenclator/Details/205521) until and unless it is corrected in a peer-reviewed journal. Nomenclatural changes should not be performed in a Wikipedia article. Moreover, from what I can tell, πένθος (pénthos) is neuter, so I do not believe an emendation to the name is warranted. I cannot perform the move because of the redirect Shawnbrescia (talk) 04:41, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Shawnbrescia Search shows that current name is also commonly used. Full RM might be needed ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 14:53, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
- Where are you seeing H. alba used? The only case I can find is BioLib, which changed the page after the Wikipedia page for H. alba was created. Also, even if H. alba is used by secondary sources, the rules of scientific nomenclature forbid renaming of species unless it is done in a peer-reviewed journal, which I can find no evidence of. Shawnbrescia (talk) 15:14, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
- Better do a full RM ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 05:43, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Bunnypranav: would you be willing to move the page first, then if you are still concerned about sourcing, do an RM from albus back to alba? My strong concerns about potential WP:circular reporting (as implied in Shawnbrescia's reply to you) compel me to ask for this deviation from standard procedure. The sources in the article itself suggest alba is WP:OR: the ICZN source cited says nothing about H. albus itself. My own searches on Google Scholar found the one source cited, Ávalos-Hernández 2009, for albus but absolutely nothing for alba. Thank you, Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 08:33, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- Your arguments and the nom is fine, but I'm still not that confident about the move. Feel free to move it to the above discussion if you think another PM can take care of it. Or just simply start an RM, that will have comments from many more editors about the confusion in sources. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 08:38, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

- Minute Maid Park → Daikin Park (currently a redirect back to Minute Maid Park) (move · ) – ballpark changed name to Daikin Park as of 12:00 midnight per source provided in article; I can't change it because "Daikin Park" is currently a redirect to Minute Maid Park BasicBichette (talk) 10:33, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

as the common nameand do away with the advertising. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:36, 1 January 2025 (UTC)- That's a ridiculous suggestion. "Astros Field" is not used by any reliable sources. 162 etc. (talk) 19:16, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- I doubt that a name that was only changed 6 hours ago is now demonstrably the WP:COMMONNAME. (See WP:NAMECHANGES) RachelTensions (talk) 01:38, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Agree with RachelTensions, but 162 etc., you're right. "Astros Field" was the ideal name, but the real common name would be Minute Maid Park. It seems official names do count in stadium titles (as compared to official names often losing out in RM discussions because Wikipedia supposedly doesn't go by official names in titling). I won't object to this request because it would be a waste of time to contest it, just expressing the fact that it will be awhile before "Daikin Park" sticks in the public mind as the common name. - List of cities, towns and villages in the Maldives → List of cities in the Maldives (currently a redirect back to List of cities, towns and villages in the Maldives) (move · ) – There are no towns or villages in the Maldives, so putting them in the title is useless. - I see cities and atoll capitals, which apparently are not "cities". I don't think either name is appropriate. RachelTensions (talk) 01:42, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

- William H. Natcher Parkway → Natcher Parkway (currently a redirect back to William H. - Rana (2012 film) → Rana (film) (currently a redirect instead to Rana) (move · ) – Both the 1998 and cancelled film lack articles. Kochadaiiyaan is a prequel to the unreleased film Rana as per the article. DareshMohan (talk) 10:13, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- @DareshMohan There seems to be no primary between the two films. @Wbm1058: recently moved an article away from this title. So this is not uncontroversial, full RM is required ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 15:05, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
