Agenda and notes from meetup
1. Introduction to meetup by organisers
- General welcome and introductions
2. Round table for participants to say what you’re working on / interested in
- User:Prosperosity has been working through Category:Wikipedia_requested_photographs_in_New_Zealand. Has noticed often people will add photos to an article and not get rid of template, so is assisting with fixing up those. Also working on species only found in the Auckland region still - has been making the use of the excellent work by User:AxonsArachnida re: spider species.
- User:LynKing1123 is an Auckland Museum Summer Student and has been actively working on two articles - one about a rabbi who served Auckland for 54 years, Samuel Goldstein. The existing is a stub, so their work will be expanding upon what is currently available. The other article they are working on is about Onehunga Blockhouse - they are currently in the research phase of writing this. They also posted an article of the Statue of George Grey in Albert Park this past week.
- User:Bjankuloski06 has been working been working on Wikidata and Wikipedia re: parks, artwork, streams and species - often working alongside WikiShootMe and iNaturalist for a hollistic and comprehensive approach and as a starting point. He has also compiled a list of libraries in the Auckland Region via Wikidata (where they have all been documented in individual items). Intends to create a notable trees of Auckland category. Keen to do a trip to Pūhoi to improve photographed content in the area.
- User:Winnieswikiworld has made a page for Asajiru Noda, expanded from a stub. Worked from the Japanese language wiki page for sources, and has found a nice image of him on Te Ara but is waiting on consent from the family to use it on Wikipedia. Also still supervising Summer Students, and working on the Wikiproject x Online Cenotaph.
- User:Chefcat29 is an Auckland Museum Summer Student and has finished a draft of the Charlotte Museum page - was going to take pictures today but User:Prosperosity had already gotten to it on the way in today! Is also working on Alberton, Auckland page, went there yesterday to gather resources and take pictures. Will hopefully be able to provide content on the Wikipedia page that will be complimentary to their History Curriculum programme. Also going to work on statue of a Cloaked Woman by Christine Hellyar in Alice Wylie Reserve, Mt Albert.
- User:Dactylantha has been working on uploading some reports from Internet Archive to Wikimedia Commons, the group discussed the Media Viewer tool.
Discussion Points:
The group questioned the correct (or most consistent way) to create a title for a Rabbi ie; Name (Rabbi) or Rabbi Name.
Another discussion ensued about ascertaining the notability of statues, User:Prosperosity recommended finding a resource from an art critic to assist in this assessment.
5. Demonstration of a tool
6. Added/edited at the meeting
- New photos added for the sculptures Gates (2004), Tohu (2005), plus new images for Caluzzi Cabaret and Charlotte Museum Te Whare Takatāpui-Wāhine o Aotearoa.
