Agenda and Notes

1. Introduction to meet up by organisers (if there are any newbies joining us)

  • Purpose of this event is to restart ongoing Auckland meetups, Jetaynz acknowledging things have slowed down due to covid. There is a group wish to build up the Auckland Wikipedia editing community again. Most people are keen to have a discussion, see what the group wants to get out of things, discuss potential meeting locations, and go over topics and things that people are interested in.

2. Brief introduction by each participant

3. Round table for participants to say what you’re working on and if you need help to do anything or want anything demonstrated - You can add requests for help here prior to the meeting if you want

  • Jetaynz - been working on Auckland Museum Wikipedia Plan, Alliance funding and Wikipedia and the Aotearoa New Zealand History Curriculum Project for improved suburb articles.
  • Noideawhatiamdoing - Have not made edits but started compiling resources, last edits were a year ago was making fashion designer pages, and the golden shears debacle - a fashion award for designers, the page was removed as it wasn’t notable enough.
  • Paora - Interested in architecture, most recently has been putting up the New Zealand business hall of fame, been doing some ‘gardening’ and working on the West Auckland page. Suggestion that changes be made to the education section for local schools.
  • Prosperosity - Working on the suburb pages, including Roskill, been working on New Zealand music - making pages for all songs which were top songs of the year for 2021-2022 (predominantly six60 songs).
  • Susan Tol - Been looking at Trains, Planes and Cars - trying to find out information about New Zealand’s railway system and finding and gaps that people may have missed. Have been trying to amend the Jean Batton Wikipedia page to make it unbiased in tone and include more modern resources into it.
  • Zhaviastar- No recent projects, but keen to do more translating of articles into Portuguese.
  • Dactylantha - Been volunteering voice on Libvirnox, will be looking into uploading onto Wikisource with accompanying text. Also working on a Wikidata project for Lucy Cranwell and Lucy Moore’s publications and classified subjects in creating Wikidata items.

4. Review of questions raised during round table

Break for Refreshments

5. Review of questions raised during round table (cont.)

6. Wiki News - add any news from the wider Wiki movement the group may be unaware of

7. Brainstorming themes for future meetups.

Discussion of format, meeting regularity and meetup locations:
ONLINE VS IN-PERSON
  • Susan Tol mentioned that there was a very successful online meetup session in the past where many people turned up, but is unsure if that was a one-off.
  • Paora suggested alternating month for month between both in person and online meetups. Group consensus for an online meetup for the next Auckland events in March an April.
LOCATION FOR FUTURE IN-PERSON MEETS
  • Noideawhatiamdoing Believes getting to the Museum can be difficult, suggesting looking at different locations, potentially renting a space at Auckland Library instead? Or if the group is collectively working on a suburb, maybe go to the local library there?
  • Susan Tol believes Galbraiths was a good location for past meetps, Jetaynz agrees with this, although this is dependent on the train station reopening in Mt Eden.
THEMES FOR FUTURE IN-PERSON MEETS
  • Susan Tol suggestion that the group works with pre-existing Auckland Central Library Heritage Talks - perhaps can use these themes as editing prompts?
  • Jetaynz - Women in Architecture themed edit-a-thon, Auckland university has pitched the event, happy to have the event at Auckland Museum.

8. Get on with problem solving, editing, and chatting }}
