The source has not been mentioned clearly and the image has been illegally used from website by downloading and uploading VNC200 (talk) 02:02, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
- Keep - The nomination makes no sense. The upload clearly had a source provided in the information box field labeled "Source". India's threshold of originality is similar to the US, so this logo which is just a rendering of text in a specific font is not eligible for copyright protection and there is nothing "illegal" about downloading the logo and uploading it to the English Wikipedia. -- Whpq (talk) 17:24, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

- File:David Lange, August 1989.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Aubernas ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
There is nothing wrong with the b&w photos that we have of Lange. I don’t see a justification for fair use just so that we have a more formal looking colour image. Schwede66 17:39, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
- Why is this about the way you feel? The black and white photo of him looking to the side at the Post Office just isn't appropriate for a world leader. It's informal and already repeated in the article. A nice, "more formal-looking colour image", as said by you yourself, is infinitely better. Especially when it's a photo of someone deceased, and has been sourced in respect to copyright from a New Zealand public service that cannot profit from its use (commercial opportunities are absolutely nill). I really don't understand why having a better image of a New Zealand prime minister can be considered so unjustified. Aubernas (talk) 02:15, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
- Here's an example of what I'm getting at.
- One the left is a nice colour photo of Helmut Kohl in 1996, taken by the Belgian photographer Christian Lambiotte. On the right, is an uncropped photo of Kohl with Francois Mitterrand in 1983, looking to the side and gurning in the harsh Stuttgart sunlight. Now, theoretically, we could crop the photo on the right and use that for the portrait on his page. But would it be adequate?
- When sourcing the photo of Lange, another ethnic German who was a prominent world leader during his time, I ensured I didn't get a photo taken by a commercial organisation that could theoretically profit from it, such as from a newspaper. The New Zealand Parliament on demand's series "Looking Back" is a non-partisan and free documentary intended to educate about New Zealand politics - it's the ideal source. And the copyright postscript I chose backs this up. No one else has complained about this change - in fact, I think it's long overdue. Aubernas (talk) 02:26, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
- Delete as failing WP:NFCC#1. The image clearly replaceable with a freely licensed image for the use of visual identification. "I don't like that picture." is not an exemption to WP:NFCC#1. -- Whpq (talk) 17:27, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
Keep as per the reasons outlined above. Nothing wrong with the non-free image. Past image was ridiculously informal and of poor quality. There is no commercial opportunity to be made. Aubernas (talk) 08:18, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
Keep - as per WP:NFCC#1, no image would "serve the same encyclopedic purpose". The previous photo was a cropped, perfunctory, black and white snapshot taken in a post office in the Manawatū - for the lead, it cannot serve any encyclopedic purpose. The photo is reused in the article as a casual photo, which is fine. But the point stands that the image I uploaded is a low-resolution portrait of an influential world leader, who has been deceased for nearly 20 years, obtained from a public site which cannot make any money from it at all. Aubernas (talk) 12:55, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- Used for the purpose of visual identification, there are several choices that can be used for that purpose. Is the person identifiable in the image? Yes. Thus the image is fit for the purpose. There are several free images to choose from in c:Category:David Lange. -- Whpq (talk) 13:08, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- Nothing else is suitable. Aubernas (talk) 22:04, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- Keep those are grainy and mostly black and white pictures in which others would have to cropped out (and even then, Lange wouldn't be facing the camera). No image would "serve the same encyclopedic purpose" for the lead. Aubernas (talk) 22:09, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

- File:Iskander Mirza, Governor General of Pakistan, with his highness, Shah of Iran.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by IDangerMouse ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
The image has a non-free use rationale for use as identifying image on the subject's article, but it is actually used in the article body, and does not seem to be subject of critical commentary. It seems that the uploader has a physical copy, but it is unclear to me whether he claims to be the copyright holder and intends to put it under a non-commercial license. Felix QW (talk) 18:45, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
Deleteas fails WP:NFCC#1. The NFUR indicates the copyright holder as "Iranian State Media during the Monarchy" -- Whpq (talk) 17:30, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for pointing this out! Somehow I was hung up on the bad NFUR, and didn't check that Iran only has a Publication + 30 years copyright period for photographic works (and no URAA issues). So I suppose we should just relicense this PD-Iran and move on. Felix QW (talk) 17:33, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

- What is URAA? Flibirigit (talk) 11:59, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
