Invalid FUR--not discussed critically or used to significantly increase understanding. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 08:41, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep. Meets WP:NFCC#8 with critical commentary in the article specifically discussing the scene depicted in the screenshot. As the sole visual element in the article, this image helps readers to recognize the topic at hand while also significantly increasing understanding of the subject. Besides reinforcing and elucidating upon the textual description in the article, the image offers a wealth of information not contained in the text and removing it would be detrimental to our readers' comprehension of the subject. - Keep. Meets WP:NFCC#8 and is exactly the opposite of the deletion nomination in that the image is discussed critically and significant increases understanding of the article. Aspects (talk) 06:28, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- File:2001 New York License Plate.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by BuickCenturyDriver ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
Violates WP:NFCC#3a, WP:NFCC#8 and WP:NFG. Stefan2 (talk) 14:01, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- keep The only "multiple" of this image is a low-quality image already being deleted above. NFCC#8 is satisfied in that it seems necessary to show images of the plates in an article about the evolving appearance of the plates. Mangoe (talk) 00:09, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep Passes WP:NFCC#3a in that another of the images in the article cannot convey equivalent significant information and passes WP:NFCC#8 in that it adds significantly to the reading of the article and its omission would be detrimental to the reading. Aspects (talk) 06:35, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- You forgot about WP:NFLISTS (you can't have images of all items in a list of non-free objects), WP:NFC#UUI §2 (this is the same kind of list as a discography) and Wikipedia talk:Non-free content/Archive 56#Proposed modification to WP:NFC (this is the same kind of list as a list of denominations of a currency). Also, the image is only mentioned briefly. There are free images of New York and the Niagara Falls, if you need to show what those look like. --Stefan2 (talk) 11:10, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- The article using the image is not a list article. –BuickCenturyDriver 11:56, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- It is indeed a list of licence plates. It is also a table, meaning that WP:NFTABLE applies. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:28, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- The text of both WP:NFLISTS and WP:NFTABLE is advisory, not prohibitive. In this case (as I've already said) a discussion of the changing appearance of an item is obviously improved by a sequence of images of the item. Mangoe (talk) 22:57, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- I'd agree with Mangoe. The article isn't a plain list, made to just show the images. Stefan2 also said that plate after 1989 are copyrighted, but there are tens of images posted on WP, plus there is another image depicting the same kind of plate ("3 J") in the article that has not been disputed in the article. Serously, I don't know what the point of WP:NFTABLE is. If an image has the proper tags and a fair-use rationale, then there should be no problem with the image being used in an article. –BuickCenturyDriver 02:26, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- keep it is safe to assume that license plates are either public domain or the government wouldn't mind seeing it here. 70.192.70.172 (talk) 21:44, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- It is not in the public domain since it was created after 1 March 1989. It doesn't matter whether the government would mind seeing it here. If an image isn't in the public domain or available under a free licence, then it needs to comply with WP:NFCC, and this image does not comply with WP:NFCC. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:48, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- keep. Per NFCC#8. If an article on this topic is worth having at all, reader understanding is hugely added to by being able to see the images. Without the images, if you're not North American and so don't know the plates already, one simply does not get a good idea of what they look like, how they differ, what elements are preserved, and the overall aesthetic effect from a text summary. I am also influenced by the fact that these designs were created by a state agency for an official purpose, with no commercial motivation, so our reproduction here in no way works against the purpose for which they were originally created; and that the overall creative content in the design is comparatively limited, so the degree of those copyright taking is comparatively limited. Those factors in the background mean we can afford to follow the reader interest here. Jheald (talk) 18:04, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- weak keep I am the original uploader and photographer. The original image was of higher resolution than this, but I have been unable to locate that file for several years. Annoyingly, if this nomination had been made just 6 hours earlier I could have created a much higher quality version of the image, and the partner File:A4118 Olchfa Bridge west.jpg right away, but as it is I'm not back in Swansea until at least next month. I don't really have a strong opinion about what happens to the images, although I don't think they'd do any harm on Commons. iirc correctly, I uploaded them for use in the long-deleted article Olchfa footbridge, and there was some suggestion of merging some of that content into A4118 road, which these files could illustrate. At one point one of these files (I can't remember which) was (also) used to illustrate the Beam bridge article. The images were taken at some point between August 2001 and September 2004, probably 2002, and as such would not be strictly duplicates of modern images - it's been a while since I was in that part of town, so I'm not sure how much has changed. Thryduulf (talk) 00:12, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
maybe delete This one was the one used in beam bridge but a cursory look suggests it's actually a truss bridge (it seems to have diagonal bracing).Mangoe (talk) 00:15, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Response The image was on the VA page when the cemetery was being constructed. It has now been open for a couple of years, and the sketch was replaced with a small photograph. When I was at the location a year ago, they had not finished the Admin building and the flag assembly area. I'll try to get out there for a replacement photo in the next couple of weeks.
