Looks like a TV screenshot Sreejith K (talk) 05:40, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- This file is NOT a screenshot. The person being interviewed is me (the uploader of the image), and the picture was taken at my request and using my camera during the videotaping of my interview being conducted by George Roy, the film's producer, on May 19, 2009 on the fifth floor of the former Robert Morris Hotel located at 17th & Arch Streets in Philadelphia, PA. (That the picture was taken on that date with my digital camera -- and thus could not be a screenshot -- can be confirmed by looking at the file's metadata information at the bottom of its host page.) This file is used on on my userpage and in the article "Broad Street Bullies" (film).
- The above detailed information has been added to the Summary section of the file's hostpage which should satisfy your concerns as to its not being a screenshot and its ownership. That being the case, please withdraw this FFD nomination. Centpacrr (talk) 06:23, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep -
There is a growing pattern of harassment and singling out of Centpacrr. This must stop.At the very least, take no action until the deletion review of his press box photo has run its course. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 10:05, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- NOTE - I see that after I posted the above information as to the source of the image the FFD proposer (Sreejith K) sebsequently moved the file to Commons. Although he has not formally withdrawn this FFD as I requested, I presume by his action he has been satisfied by the metadata evidence of the image file's origin as being mine to freely post and license and thus this listing can be promptly closed as "keep". Centpacrr (talk) 10:56, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I am not aware of a way of withdrawing an FFD. But given that your arguments are satisfactory, this FFD will be closed with a result of Keep. I appreciate your timely response. Thanks. --Sreejith K (talk) 11:07, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm not sure of the process either. I am guessing you can probably just do a
"strike through"on your original reason at the top of this section, request that an admin promptly close it as "moot," and remove the FFD tag from the file's host page. I'm not sure that is the formal process but it would probably work. Centpacrr (talk) 11:21, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]- Note also that a boom mike and a camera operator are visible in the picture. Very unlikely they would show that on-screen. These kinds of interviews are usually done with tight shots of the interview subject usually looking slightly off-camera toward the interviewer... as with the video being taken by the video operator. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 11:14, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free TV epsisode screenshot. Apparently random screenshot, not embedded in analytical commentary, no indication of significance for the episode, meaningless gibberish boilerplate pseudo-rationale (also linking to the wrong episode, hence also currently failing NFC10c) Fut.Perf. ☼ 08:40, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Update: NFCC10c linking problem has been fixed; other problems remain as stated. Fut.Perf. ☼ 09:07, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Screenshots are allowed, if they are explained in detail, which I do for every one. I used the "gibberish boilerplate pseudo-rationale" that is also attached to most images for TV series, Dexter, which have been here for almost TWO years. (see below) Every image I use ties into their respective episode. If you read the articles (Hell On Wheels (episode), Immoral Mathematics, A New Birth of Freedom, Jamais Je Ne T'oublierai, Bread and Circuses (Hell On Wheels TV Series)), and click on their respective images, you will see the images actually do go with the episodes. I encourage you to actually watch the episodes, use the Wiki articles as a guide and you will see all three tie together. Thank you! — WylieCoyote (talk) 09:24, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- File:DexterPilot.jpg
- May I also add the Licensing for every image CLEARLY states: "To the uploader (me, WylieCoyote): please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline, as well as the source of the work and copyright information." I do all that in the image description. — WylieCoyote (talk) 09:32, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- No, you don't. And just because many other images also use crap boilerplate rationales doesn't make that an acceptable practice. Do you know what the word "rationale" means? It means an explanation for why something is done. How can you explain why you need to use these images, when you aren't even mentioning the images and the articles in your explanation? You are supposed to explain why this specific image is needed in this specific article. Forget about the boilerplate; it can never do this. Instead of explaining the use and purpose of the image, this text actually glosses over the one crucial issue with a generic assertion that is not only vague but strictly meaningless: "it provides an immediate relevance to the reader". Now, tell me, what does this even mean, in English? "Relevance" is not something you can "provide". You are juxtaposing words that simply don't match.
- And about the article: it is not enough for the image to "go with" the article. It must provide some crucial information that text alone cannot (and your rationale has to explicitly spell out what that crucial information is, and the article has to explicitly talk about that information). The only thing I'm seeing at Bread and Circuses (Hell On Wheels TV Series) is a big long plot renarration (not a plot summary, a re-narration: it's unstructured, linear, far too long, and devoid of analytic insight). This plot renarration mentions and describes the fight. It does so in great detail (far too great, in fact). Why do we need to see the picture to go with it? Simple truth is, we don't. Fut.Perf. ☼ 09:43, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- So....this article's image should be unnecessary then. The opening argument is the main reason why I realllly hate Wikipedia. Everyone is VERY quick to want to delete things, rather than offer advice (for example, a proper screenshot rationale description) as to how to improve articles and images. I will reserve further comment until others weigh in. — WylieCoyote (talk) 10:04, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- The Lost article example you point to may well be deletable too – can't make up my mind about that so quickly, but anyway, WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS arguments don't help us here. There are so many bad images nobody can possibly take care of them all, but that isn't a reason not to tackle a problem that one happens to come across. – As for your complaint about why I'm not offering "a proper screenshot rationale" instead: I can't, because I don't know any. There is no such thing as a generic valid screenshot rationale, because they all have to be individual. And in this particular instance, I cannot offer a better rationale, because I just happen to think that the image is objectively not needed. It's not a situation that could be fixed simply through better wording. Fut.Perf. ☼ 10:10, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Then why allow "screenshots" at all? Or should those of us who create episode articles either a) not even use images or b) use them but not mention what is shown in the image in the article? For that particular episode, Bread and Circuses, they took half of the episode to fight, as you can see from the "far too long" article I created. Suppose I just take a picture of a horse, or the train, or some guest star who probably won't be back on the series? Those have no bearing on the episode either. Would just a major character picture work, like in the Pilot episode? I ask for guidance and still get none. Sorry about bringing up other articles' photos but again I have no concrete tableau to create a "screenshot" as of yet. — WylieCoyote (talk) 10:35, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- There is no blanket allowance for routine inclusion of one screenshot per article, although there is a rather stubborn misunderstanding to that effect among many contributors in this topic area. Sorry if you feel I'm picking on you now, because you are definitely not alone in this misperception; it's easy to think there is such a pattern, with all the poor examples around. The actual rule is that screenshots, like any other non-free images, must be individually justified. Write your article first, make sure it contains not just plot renarration but actual sourced analysis of the work, and then, if and when it turns out that there is some point in the analysis that needs visual support – e.g. if you need to comment on some particularly striking visual effect, some particular aesthetic choice in staging a particular scene or the like – then you go and get an image for this specific purpose. Fut.Perf. ☼ 10:38, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Please define sourced analysis when it comes to episode articles. As far as images for these types of articles, I actually don't care about their use at all (in the Info Section), but I've seen "cleanup tags" for others that suggest them. I would prefer to use, as you suggest, production pictures or something of the sort within the article. Unfortunately, those are copyrighted or not easy to come by. AMC doesn't do much behind-the-scenes work for this show. I've also just now reworked/shortened the plot for "Bread" as well. On a side note, when anything I do is called "meaningless gibberish boilerplate" whatever, I do take offense and feel picked on. — WylieCoyote (talk) 11:01, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
@Future Perfect, you're a respected admin with many years of service to the community, and i'm thankful for your help, but your comments here come across as aggressive. Please remember we've been having a difficult time retaining new editors because of unpleasant experiences and we've been trying to be kinder and gentler with our newest members. I'd also like to mention that CAWylie is one of our best new Wikipedians and has been diligent in learning and following our numerous rules. If you wouldn't mind being a little easier on this user, I'd be very grateful. Thanks.
@WylieCoyote, Future Perfect is correct in that we have a lot of fair use images that really don't comply with our rules. As a community, we have decided to be very strict in what we allow under fair use. One of the main reasons is that we give away our content freely and it's not fair to the copyright holders to have their hard work given away even though we specifically state that fair use images are ony for a specific use and only on Wikipedia. Unfortunately this means that this particular image will most likely be deleted. I'll stop by your talk page and give you a hand with our fair use rules. Best regards. - Hydroxonium (T•C•V) 00:25, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks, Hydroxonium. I think, from now on, I just won't load anymore images to Wiki unless I do an article on something 5000 years ago and come across a free image for it or take the picture myself. And even though I like editing other's material on here, I won't recommend anyone's article/image for deletion, unless it has no place here. I don't want anyone to not like Wiki, because I recommended their article/image for deletion. That's happened to me SEVERAL times in the short three weeks I have been here, and I've had to walk away from Wiki for a while. I'll let someone else enjoy using the "hammer." — WylieCoyote (talk) 02:01, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free photograph of a scoreboard during an American Football match in 1988. While the match may have been of some historic importance for the history of the club in question, a photograph of the scoreboard is not needed for understanding the situation (the club won 31-9). A simple textual description would be quite sufficient. Thus fails NFCC#1+8. Probably also NFCC#3, because there are currently several problematic or borderline non-free images on the same page. Fut.Perf. ☼ 09:00, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Screenshot of a YouTube from a now-out of circulation video (which I think is illegal to do anyway?) for an article that also "accurately conveys the gravity" of that particular situation. I say delete it as well. My team won the NCAA/BCS National Championship in 1998 and also went 13-0 that season. Their article gets that point across without any bells and whistles. — WylieCoyote (talk) 11:26, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I edited the file description and changed the article with which it is associated. I'm not sure how you made the reach to considering the legality of such a practice, because in my opinion that more than constitutes fair use. As for your team's BCS National Title in 1998, West Virginia has never won a national championship and that scoreboard depiction not only demonstrates exactly how close they came, but also how important that game against Syracuse and that season was to the history of the Mountaineer football program as a whole. Non-free photograph from a scene surrounding a football match in 1988 (a football coach being carried around on his players' shoulders). The photograph (as opposed to the scene it depicts) is not itself the object of commentary and not notable. While the scene may be of historic importance in the history of the club, the photograph is not needed to convey the information. Claimed rationale "To accurately depict not only Don Nehlen in an unorthodox setting, but to demonstrate the excitement surrounding the 1988 West Virginia football season" is unconvincing: the guy's "unorthodox" position is not the topic of the article, and the excitement can be conveyed by a simple textual description: "The team gained an historic victory in match so-and-so, and enthusiastic players were seen carrying their coach on their shoulders in celebration afterwards" or something similar. Thus fails NFCC#1+8. Also being used in the wrong article currently. Fut.Perf. ☼ 09:05, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This looks like a professional photo, not one taken by the uploader, (see studio signature at bottom right) and other images by uploader have been wrongly attributed and deleted, (e.g. here. Chesdovi (talk) 20:06, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unused and duplicate of a commons image. Yes this is a png and that is a jpg but they are both from the same jpg source so no information is lost/gained by the png format. Lokal_Profil 22:10, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Nominated here since different fileformat means "on commons" tagging doesn't work. /Lokal_Profil 22:11, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
