- Well, the original table was directly copied from MY SITE http://monorail-man1979.tripod.com/monorail_info.html
- A table is a table. they use the same HTML code to create so of course it's going to look the same. You are claiming I copied the table directly from www.monorailyellow.com however the "table" listed there is not a table at all, it's an image, so how could I copy the table code from an image? As for the rest of the information, and images. It' is all "fair use" information available from MANY sources. There are thousands of monorail fans out there and I am positive that the majority of them have seen, or read the same books, pamphlets, web sites, videos, etc. and all know the same information. so when more then one monorail fan creates a web site, (like mine http://monorail-man1979.tripod.com/monorail_info.html) odds are another monorail fan has a web site with the EXACT same information listed. It's the same as Webster's Dictionary vs. another brands dictionary. Both have the same information because thats the information available. HeadMouse 08:34, 9 May 2007 (UTC)HeadMouse[reply]
- No, the copyrighted text on other web sites is not fair use when used in this way. You may use others' information in Wikipedia, but not their prose (unless it is a small, attributed quotation or a part of commentary on the source). The fact that that material has been published and widely distributed, either legally or illegally, does not diminish its copyright protection. The images of the trains, unless their copyright holders agree to release them under a free license, may not be used. Please review Wikipedia's policies on non-free content. ×Meegs 09:12, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- IT'S MY WEB SITE DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT. THE SITE http://monorail-man1979.tripod.com/monorail_info.html IS MY SITE. I CREATED IT. I AM MONORAIL-MAN11279@TRIPOD.COM HeadMouse 09:30, 9 May 2007 (UTC)HeadMouse[reply]
- The Images of the trains are "Free Media" (look it up) They are free to be used for information purposes only. I would credit where they came from if I still had the pamphlet. HeadMouse 09:32, 9 May 2007 (UTC)HeadMouse[reply]
- Is http://www.monorails.org also your web site? Does any of the prose from that site's pages originate from your web site? For example, were you the first person to write these words? ×Meegs 09:44, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- No that is NOT my site. ANd I am not the first to write those worlds, but neither are they. They got that exact information from another web site, (I have seen it). But like I explained before There are thousands of monorail fans out there and I am positive that the majority of them have seen, or read the same books, pamphlets, web sites, videos, etc. and all know the same information. so when more then one monorail fan creates a web site, odds are another monorail fan has a web site with the EXACT same information listed. In fact there are SEVERAL sites that all list the EXACT same information that's on my site, and on the site you just listed.
- Now for this. This should cover this problem anyway:
- Source: Copyright Basics FAQ
- Please read
- Does copyright protect an author's creative ideas?
- Mainly the part that reads: "...For similar reasons, copyright does not protect facts -- whether scientific, historical, biographical or news of the day."
- This article is nothing but FACTS. Therefore it does not violate any copyright laws. HeadMouse 10:58, 9 May 2007 (UTC)HeadMouse[reply]
- Right, the underlying information can not be copyrighted, but, for the nth time, the written prose can be. The copyright for the text belongs the original author; in this case, you have admitted that that is not you. www.monorails.org may or may not be the original publisher of the text. In any case, we can not keep the text unless its copyright holder agrees to license it under the GNU Free Documentation License. ×Meegs 22:05, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- You indicated [11] that the images are "free media," however on monorails.org's copyright page, they specifically state that duplication is prohibited: "The Monorail Society (TMS) does NOT allow reproduction of photographs from our website or footage from our videos. Most images and video are shot by members of The Monorail Society and permission has only been granted to us for exclusive use on our website." --Kralizec! (talk) 14:54, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- The photos taken by their members are copyrighted. The images in question CAN NOT be copyrighted by them since they are not the original creators of the images. HeadMouse 20:05, 9 May 2007 (UTC)HeadMouse[reply]
- The photos are creative works, and their photographers, whoever they may be, automatically receive full copyright protection. ×Meegs 22:05, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
