Do you edit the English language Wikiquote using the name The One? WjBscribe 21:52, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No Sir. I am from India. I am not that user:The One on wikiquote. You may confirm it by tracing original ISP. My ISP is AirTel India. Thanks. NEO (talk) 03:56, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not done I couldn't usurp this account because you've already migrated to the unified login system, and so has another user named "The One". EVula // talk // // 05:03, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm seconding the rejection of this one on different grounds - the en.wikiquote user The One has the best claim to this name globally across all projects and as such, to usurping the account here. WjBscribe 22:28, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat note: Yes, it can still be usurped. The PDF he uploaded was pretty much just spam; nothing significant enough to stand in the way of a usurpation. EVula // talk // // 15:44, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not done This account is active on other projects and the home wiki for the name is frwiki, where the user has been active this year. I don't think it's worth creating a conflict for single login. WjBscribe 00:33, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aleena to be a doppleganger account for Lady Aleena

As Aleena (talk · contribs · global contribs · logs · block log) has not made any edits, and since I use the Aleena in my user name, I would like to use User:Aleena as a doppleganger account as I have done with LA. - LA @ 21:43, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: Parse error: I had a problem parsing this request. Please ensure that the header is in the correct format. Thanks. ClueBot VI (talk) 21:47, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: I'm minded to decline this request. With the advent of SUL, giving you this name effectively limits the ability of someone else to edit as Aleena across all Wikimedia projects. I don't think having too editors called Lady Aleena and Aleena respectively is all that confusing and certainly it would cause little problem if they were mainly active on different wikis. I note that an account by this name already exists on the Romanian wiki, though it has few edits. The position would be different if you wanted this to be your primary account but I'm not really happy doing this for a doppleganger. Perhaps another bureaucrat could offer a second opinion on this request? WjBscribe 20:01, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose I am somewhat biased here as I recently also tried to usurp a doppleganger of a similar character, but what if the promise were made not to enable the SUL? –xenocidic (talk) 03:09, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The plan was to, if this went through, to log in to Aleena, change the e-mail and password, log out. Log in with Lady Aleena, add the redirects and doppleganger template on Aleena, then let it sit unused. - LA @ 19:09, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Would you be able to promise not to SUL the Aleena account should the usurp be accepted? That's basically what it boils down to. Wizardman 03:32, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree entirely with WJBscribe's assessment. Given SUL, and the existance of an Aleena on another wiki, I don't think this is wise, though it certainly wasn't an unreasonable request. --Deskana (talk) 03:34, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I had no intention of creating a SUL for Aleena. I could talk to the current user where that user is most active to see if the other Aleena would be amiable to a global usurpation for me to have a clear SUL, then I would think about it.
On a slightly humorous note, when did SUL (single user login) become a verb? - LA @ 05:44, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not done - given the agreement of Deskana above and Nichalp here with my original comments. WJBscribe (talk) 21:41, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since this account has not been used in the last 5 years and barely used before then I would hope that I could change my account name. Thanks. -- Phoenix (talk) 22:47, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just found out about the single unified login so I was wondering if I could do this also from here or if I should relocate my request? Hope its not a silly question... Thanks -- Phoenix (talk) 05:17, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not done - the username Phoenix is in use across multiple Wikimedia Projects (the user with the best claim to the global name edits the Russian Wikipedia) and renaming someone to this name would cause a conflict for single user login. WJBscribe (talk) 10:14, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok then a simple change here would be great. Thanks -- Phoenix (talk) 21:57, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is generally not done, per Wikipedia:BN#Effect of SUL on certain rename requests. –xeno (talk) 22:02, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
<humh> so if I was to somehow get a hold of the Russian wiki editor (does anybody have a link) and ask if it was ok would that be satisfactory or is there another route that I should take? -- Phoenix (talk) 23:30, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I used interiot's edit counter and according to that ru Phoenix has 532 edits while I have 4298 edits I double checked this on Yet Another Edit Counter and when I went to the global contributions counter for phoenix it said that only one other person has more that 100 (103 to be exact) and most only have a few edits. If anything I think that it should be ok for me to assume the en wiki Phoenix username with over 4,000 edits... right? -- Phoenix (talk) 04:26, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
From the above mentioned thread: "It is also bad for cross-wiki relations to allow users from here with high edit counts to maneuver themselves into a position where they can have a better claim to a global account than a user who has been editing other projects by that name for some time. Unless the name has zero edits (or zero non-trivial edits) across all projects, I do not think we should consider it available to users here." Unfortunately, I don't think this can be done for you. If it's any consolation, I was unable to obtain the username "Xeno" for the exact same reason. =\ –xeno (talk) 12:26, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If I was to swear never to lay claim to a global account and to have this convo listed in my account to show my sincerity would that be sufficient? I don't speak Russian only a little bit of French so I have no interest in other language wiki accounts. It was the wiki commons account that I was actually referring to originally. I would have no issue with only ever having the en wiki account being Phoenix. Currently the en version is not in use so it shouldn't be a problem in this wiki page should it? -- Phoenix (talk) 19:18, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that the very fact that you have more edits than the other accounts would automatically lay claim to the global account. –xeno (talk) 19:22, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Up until 2008-02-27 its used in really only one other location... Would a certified letter being mailed out to you be easier stating I have no intrust in a global account. Personally I wouldn't find it fair to shove someone else out especially when I wont use it. -- Phoenix (talk) 19:52, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - sorry but the name Bento is already in use on multiple Wikimedia projects (the user with the best claim to the name globally edits the Dutch language Wikiquote). Matthewedwards 2nd usurp account → ME

  • I'd like to usurp this account so I can have an abbreviated sig. It wouldn't be used for editing, and the userpage would be redirected to mine. Thanks for your consideration. Matthewedwards (talk contribs  email) 05:20, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - given that accounts now need to be considered globally, I am unwilling to deny the opportunity for someone to edit Wikimedia projects as ME for the convenience of one user's signature. I note that there is already an account by this name that has made edits to the Thai Wikipedia so there would already be a single user login conflict if I performed this request. I'm User:Bressler from he.wiki, commons.wiki (and 8 other wiki-projects - still not active, but I'm registered). I wish to take over User:Bressler. Bressler 18:28, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • User has 6 undeleted edits, -6 deleted edits, and 0 total edits. Requesting user has 12534 edits. ClueBot VI (talk) 05:43, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Five of these six edits may be GDFL significant, but it should be noted they were made only months after the English Wikipedia's creation. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 15:00, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alas, the bowiki Jason isn't me. I haven't claimed User:Jason anywhere yet. Is this user active? --JaGatalk 16:21, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The user's last edit was February 4 of this year. I'm afraid that's too active for the usurpation to be allowed.
However, he also appears to be zh:User:Jason Lee, and he is also a native English speaker; you might have luck if you email him or drop him a message on his talk page (try his Cantonese account, which last edited on August 11). He might be willing to give up the name.
If the prospect of chatting it up on the Cantonese Wikipedia is somewhat intimidating, just drop me a line; I'm enough of a pseudo-polyglot that I can take care of it. ;) EVula // talk // // 19:55, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Target has edits that may be GFDL significant. We currently cannot approve such usurpations, I'm afraid. If it's really important to you, you could always change username on all wikis to a name that has no SUL problems, but I'm not sure if you'd find that an attractive option. Sorry; I'd love to help. I have emailed User:Ferrer and asked him if he would be happy for his old account to be renamed. • Previous renames: current user, target user, Queue: open req, closed req
  • AntiSpoof: antispoof check
  • For global renamer: rename user
  • Reason: This is my second such request, as the first one was denied because an User:Eurocopter account exists and made 7 edits (6 on 1 June 2008 and 1 on 14 June 2008). However, that user did not make any new edit since then. I strongly need this name change, given that I am a coordinator of the Military history WikiProject and i'm talking every day with many different people (even officials sometimes). Due to these, my current username is not very appropiate for serious conversations. I wonder if anything could be done in order to move that user together with his 7 edits to something like "Eurocopter 2"? Thank you very much. Eurocopter (talk) 23:25, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is likely not possible, for now. The last edit was made on June 14 this year, and was likely GFDL. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 06:09, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But when it will be possible? It does not says above how much time has to pass until you'd be able to usurp other's account.. --Eurocopter (talk) 09:03, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ideally it should be six-eight months after the creation of the account (this can be extended if edits have been made, which in this case, is true). Caulde 09:39, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ideally? Is there a written rule which states how much time has to pass or not? --Eurocopter (talk) 12:31, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is no written rule. You may wish to contact an experienced CHU/U bureaucrat for any more advice. Caulde 13:36, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I would like to see here the explaining of an experienced bureaucrat why I can't usurp an username in these conditions if there are no written rules? --Eurocopter (talk) 16:54, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is too soon. 6 months is the limit. Generally, we like to wait a good deal after this. In addition, it may never be usurpable, because 8 edits may be too big a breach. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 19:58, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
