- Propose renaming Category:Italian mosaic to Category:Italian mosaics
- Nominator's rationale: Pluralize name for consistency with categories in general, and, specifically, for consistency with other categories in Category:Mosaics. pburka (talk) 17:29, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose as nominated. Hmmm! Neither reason given holds up - Category:Italian mosaics should be only for individual mosaics, which many in the category are not. "Categories in general" do NOT follow the suggested pattern - look at Category:Sculpture and its equally huge sub-cat Category:Sculptures. There are 45 singular national "sculpture of Foo" sub-cats in Category:Sculpture by country, nearly all using a "Fooish" adjectival form, as this category currently does. Paintings etc are the same. Since mosaics are not very mobile, except to museums, it would be better to start Category:Mosaics in Italy as a subcat of this, and rename this to Category:Mosaics of Italy, for which there are many precendents. Category:Mosaics is a hopeless jumble of different types of thing and different types of names that a dubious "consistency" is not a strong argument. Roman mosaics have their own category, and don't seem to be "Italian" even when in Italy. The Greek, Roman and Byzantine cats are (rightly) trans-national, and Category:Mosaics in Italy would follow Category:Mosaics in Turkey. Johnbod (talk) 17:57, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- These are individual mosaics (or sites with notable mosaics). All of the other subcats of Category:Mosaics are either Category:Xian mosaics or Category:Mosaics in X. I agree that Category:Mosaics in Italy would also be a suitable name, and avoids an awkward ambiguity. pburka (talk) 18:08, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- As I said, some are, but many aren't. There are several types of mosaic, an overview Late Antique and medieval mosaics in Italy, at least one maker, and so on. Johnbod (talk) 17:54, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

- Rename per WP:C2C. Fine with Category:Mosaics in Italy as well. –Aidan721 (talk) 18:20, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- Leaning rename to Category:Mosaics in Italy, and rename its sibling categories in Category:Mosaics to "Mosaics in Israel", "Mosaics in the United Kingdom" and "Mosaics in the United States". Those category names seem more objective than ones which could imply that there are American, British, Israeli and Italian types of mosaic. Ham II (talk) 14:35, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Following up on User:Johnbod's suggestion to split the category, would it be helpful to call the set categories "individual mosaics"? We have some more "individual" categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:10, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Most similar broad types are like Category:Paintings, Category:Sculptures. The "individual" ones are for much narrower cats, usually of often mass-produced types of the decorative arts like Category:Individual ceramics (and several sub-cats), Category:Individual pieces of furniture (with sub-cats like Category:Individual desks). I think I invented the use of this sort of cat name for the arts. Mosaics, like paintings, are pretty much all assumed to be "individual" works. I accept this may not be obvious to all readers. Johnbod (talk) 17:51, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Rename to Category:Mosaics in Italy. Most contents are about individual mosaics, not the techniques of mosaic. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 03:47, 27 January 2025 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Small category for just one building, in a small town without enough other notable buildings to justify it. As always, every town in existence does not automatically get one of these the moment one building in it has a Wikipedia article -- there would need to be several buildings with Wikipedia articles before a dedicated town-level category was warranted, and the county level is all that's needed in the meantime. Bearcat (talk) 17:21, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- Merge per nom. This is not needed and there is no Category:Newberry Springs, California. –Aidan721 (talk) 17:49, 19 January 2025 (UTC)

- Keep. Does a CFD from 2020 still need to apply forever? Do you @Smasongarrison actually have your own argument about deleting these categories (note that the "found alive" category was never even deleted in the first place)? I think having these two separate categories is much more useful than just "Formerly missing people", which is more vague than "they disappeared and were eventually found alive" and "eventually their dead body was found and identified". The ultimate outcome of a former missing person case is an important defining attribute. Why is it not important to distinguish between those who died and those who survived, which are very major differences? AHI-3000 (talk) 18:48, 19 January 2025 (UTC)

- Keep, it is categories like this that are informative for the reader, pique curiosity and encourage visitors to explore and dig deeper into the site. I'm frustrated about how WP:CAAP#DEFINING is used frequently as a blunt instrument to delete categories that are similarly informative for readers of this site. What is "Defining" often narrowly interpreted by the main characters on CFD, for what goals I'm not sure.
- For Category:Formerly missing people found dead this is especially relevant because a lot of these individuals fit into WP:BLP1E and WP:N/CA hence the argument that it is not defining is baseless. Merging this category into the proposed makes it a much lesser Wikipedia and would make Category:Formerly missing people unwieldly and less useful.
- In terms of the argument from a CFD from 2020--- honestly there is no harm to keeping the categories separate as is, only a benefit to readers. Let's make this a better Wikipedia hence WP:WIARM things should develop and grow, rather than keep arguments from the past. I honestly don't see how merging these categories makes Wikipedia better for the actual readers of the site.
- Nayyn (talk) 10:09, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

- Propose deleting Category:Vaporware video games ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Nominator's rationale: There is a variety of issues that I have with this category: First of all, someone has removed titles that have been released a couple months back like Team Fortress 2 or Duke Nukem Forever. Also, vaporware is only a slang term for software that is takes very long to make and is often simply left abandoned (this may cause confusion with the similar term abandonware). The status of individual games in this category also varies: some are currently in active development and have not confirmed to be cancelled, some are just simply officially cancelled, while others are unreleased unknowingly cancelled. This could actually make for a new Unreleased video games category; which would only include video games that are unreleased yet not known to be officially cancelled. QuantumFoam66 (talk) 04:17, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Split Keep this category (with stricter guidelines) and create a second category for former vaporware that has since been released.
- ThanatosApprentice (talk) 05:25, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- Keep If List of media notable for being in development hell passes WP:LISTN, then this category is defining beyond a shadow of a doubt. Also it is only for games that the media describes as being vaporware, not ones that users decide are. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 13:17, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Delete, not a defining characteristic. Whether or not the term "vaporware" is used in media is a matter of mere coincidence. The list suffices. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:59, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- The term specifically may be "coincidence", but other equivalent terms such as "development hell" are often used. The naming can be discussed without deleting the category outright. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 06:01, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- Keep. Pretty much a defining characteristic for games that are notable enough to have their own articles. The name is debatable. Solidest (talk) 15:15, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Keep: Echoing what others have attested, vaporware - stuck in development hell - is indeed a characteristic, defined as having stalled out with no tangible product in players' hands. If anything, the editor who removed released titles like Team Fortress 2 and Duke Nukem: Forever reinforced the necessity of the category. BOTTO (T•C) 01:18, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

- It can be argued that "vaporware" and "development hell" both can refer equally to this phenomenon. Therefore, I support keeping it at the status quo. I also removed Barkley 2, Mega Man Legends 3, and Makai Wars as they were either cancelled or released and it makes sense that this category would be one that is regularly maintained for current vaporware, a defining trait of a notable yet unreleased game. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 14:30, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Those categories should cover the broader reality-virtuality continuum, so that's why i'm proposing a mass-rename of several virtual reality-related categories. Especially that the mixed reality market has started booming after Apple's $3499 magnum opus and Meta's first ever consumer-oriented mixed reality headset. However, the case with "Virtual reality pioneers -> Extended reality people" is that they are not exclusively pioneering those technologies but can have various different associations with them. Oh, and, also that there are barely any augmented or mixed reality-related categories. 67.209.128.52 (talk) 22:40, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- Don't know about this one. "Virtual reality" is a very established term. Wouldn't it be a better idea to create extended reality parent categories once enough articles are available? Marcocapelle (talk) 07:31, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose - as unnecessary. The industry more commonly uses virtual, not extended, and as a result, so should we. I don't love the use of a subjective term like "pioneers" though, I do think that one could stand to be changed, but that doesn't really seem to be what this discussion is about. - Please renominate "Virtual reality pioneers" separately. Palestine
- Propose renaming Category:State of Palestine to Category:Palestine
- Nominator's rationale: And all sub-categories. Opposed speedy. The country article is now at Palestine as a result of this Requested Moved, the categories for the country should follow. Unfortunately during the years when the Palestine namespace was occupied by a disambiguation page, some category disambiguations were put in and this has led to what should be a straightforward move being procedurally objected to. The category names should match the main article for a country. Timrollpickering (talk) 10:34, 9 January 2025 (UTC)

- Even if the article is now at Palestine we can still add a disambiguator in the category name, similarly to Birmingham and Category:Birmingham, West Midlands. And I think adding a disambiguator would be a sensible thing to do in order to avoid confusion with Category:Palestine (region) and all of its subcategories. If not kept at their current names, which would be my initial preference, I would suggest Category:Palestine (modern state). Marcocapelle (talk) 18:00, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Support No opinion on the underlying article rename--I might be the only one--but we should defer to that outcome in the category space so that the main article matches the category to ease reader navigation as an WP:EPONCAT. Let's avoid repeating the mistake of the Birmingham / Category:Birmingham, West Midlands mismatch by not second guessing a controversial outcome in a different venue. - RevelationDirect (talk) 03:56, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

- Support Must reflect the change of the main article as the State of Palestine is the formal name of the country and we use common names of countries. Same common names are applied to categories for countries as well. And all bilateral relations articles for the State of Palestine use simply Palestine in the article title. A region known as Palestine can't be too hard to distinguish from the country itself. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 16:44, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- Generally support, keeps the category in line with the article. I'm hesitant to blanket support all subcategories in case some do merit further considerations, although at a quick look I can't find any immediate quibbles. If someone could move the "Ambassadors of the State of Palestine to X" categories that would take a decent chunk out. The "State of Palestine-X relations/X-State of Palestine relations" is similarly a big chunk that could be moved without issue. The relations ones appear to already be in the alphabetical order they'd be in if Palestine was used, aside from a couple of exceptions (Category:State of Palestine–Ethiopia relations, Category:State of Palestine–European Union relations) which are probably just errors. Both of these groupings relate solely to the state, so there is no ambiguity issue. CMD (talk) 08:26, 27 January 2025 (UTC)

- Merge After Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2025_January_7#Category:1488_establishments_in_Spain, four of the five categories will be empty. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 10:39, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- Merge (if not empty) but then also to a year in Europe category. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:25, 19 January 2025 (UTC)

- Propose deleting Category:Japanese non-binary professional wrestlers ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Nominator's rationale: Excessively narrow intersection, especially for just one article. Upmerge sole entry to non-binary professional wrestlers (already present in 21st-century Japanese professional wrestlers so no need there). Not nominating American non-binary professional wrestlers just now but noting that it may be worth doing the same with; if anyone else supports then I'll throw a nom up for it as well. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 10:05, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- Merge per nom. I'd take the AMerican ones under the same criterion — we previously merged a host of ethnicity+nationality actors categories on similar WP:NARROWCAT/WP:OCEGRS grounds. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 11:32, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. The category American professional wrestlers contains all American wrestlers in subcategories. This includes categories for male and female wrestlers. Removing the category for non-binary wrestlers will impede navigation and proper categorisation. The argument that this is an "excessively narrow intersection" is not sound; by that logic Category:American female professional wrestlers and Category:American male professional wrestlers should also be deleted. McPhail (talk) 12:12, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- Is Category:American male professional wrestlers really just one article? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:32, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Non-binary professional wrestlers and 21st-century Japanese professional wrestlers will still exist, so the information won't be lost. You can even use advanced search to find articles that occupy multiple categories. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 21:11, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Merge (not delete) per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:28, 19 January 2025 (UTC)

- Propose deleting Template:US-aviation-accident-stub ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Propose deleting Template:US-aviation-accident-stub ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Nominator's rationale: This template seems to be entirely redundant and unnecessary since its scope is already covered in the much larger Template:Aviation-accident-stub and, out of the current 157 stubs listed at Category:Aviation accident stubs, less than ten involve US aviation accidents/incidents. Aviationwikiflight (talk) 09:59, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- Comment: To be fair, every stub sub-category has its scope covered in the larger category, the point of sub-categories is to be more specific. However, there is merit in there being very few U.S. aviation accident stubs compared to the total. KyleSirTalksAlot (talk) 19:54, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:Works about economics to Category:Works about economic topics
- Nominator's rationale: rename, economics is not accurate here because economics is the study of economic topics. Apart from subCategory:Economics books, this category is mainly about economic topics rather than about economics. If there appears to be support for this proposal I will add the subcategories too (but not Category:Economics books). Marcocapelle (talk) 07:30, 19 January 2025 (UTC)

- It is the same distinction as between Society and Social sciences. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:34, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose because there is no confusion about "Works about economics" and that seems to be what the category contains KyleSirTalksAlot (talk) 19:56, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Uhh, it did confuse me. Otherwise I wouldn't have nominated it. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:27, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. I see no difference in meaning. The study of economies is economics, and books and other works are studies. Any work about an economic topic is therefore an economics work. To me, Category:Works about economics, Category:Works about economies, and Category:Works about economic topics all mean the same thing. I suspect the nominator might be parsing this title very precisely to include only Category:Works examining the study of economics. Perhaps the nominator could provide some examples of included articles which are out of place in the current category and would fit better at the proposed name. pburka (talk) 23:17, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Category:Works examining the study of economics is how I understand the title and obviously hardly any content in the category fits this. Marcocapelle (talk) 03:50, 23 January 2025 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: This content is better surfaced on the decade-level for Canada. Merge per WP:NARROW/WP:OCYEAR. Several of these articles are about wildfires that spread throughout Canada and the United States. –Aidan721 (talk) 05:20, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
