Category:Bromeliaceae species
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: delete. Given that the comment advocating listifying before deletion specified that once the pages were properly categorized the list "can probably also be deleted", and given Hyperik's response below, I don't think a full list in mainspace is needed, but I have pasted a list of all pages currently in the category on the talk page. - Nominator's rationale: WikiProject Plants doesn't categorize articles by rank species. The lowest rank we use is genus. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants/Categorization#Taxonomic rank categories for more details. — Hyperik ⌜talk⌟ 21:09, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- Delete none of the Tree of Life subprojects categorize by species rank. Plantdrew (talk) 22:44, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- Listify then delete - A category with 922 members is too big to be a useful navigation tool. There at at least 30 genera, which is the appropriate level to have categories at. I am suggesting listifying rather than deletion to provide a mechanism for distributing over 900 articles into categories for genera. When that has been done the lit can probably also be deleted. A plain deletion is liable to destroy useful data. Peterkingiron (talk) 21:25, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
- I did a lot of spot checking before the nom and every article I had checked was already placed in its appropriate taxonomic category. —Hyperik ⌜talk⌟ 04:59, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Fossil taxa of Europe to Category:Prehistoric life of Europe
- Nominator's rationale: These appear (at least which articles they could include) to be the same thing. Consistency with other continents. DexDor (talk) 21:01, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- For info: Of the 6 previous editors of the category 4 (including the creator) are now blocked. DexDor (talk) 21:38, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- Merge inconsistent with similar categories, and redundant to a category that is consistent. Plantdrew (talk) 22:42, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- Why delete rather than merge? DexDor (talk) 06:27, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- Wasn't thinking clearly, changed to merge. Plantdrew (talk) 17:33, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- Why delete rather than merge? DexDor (talk) 06:27, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- Support per WP:OVERLAPCAT. More accurately: disperse the articles of Category:Fossil taxa of Europe to the various subcategories in the tree of Category:Prehistoric life of Europe. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:04, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- Support - one doesn't have to look far to find unnecessary cats such as Category:Prehistoric eukaryote taxa and indeed Category:Eukaryotes created by Caftaric et al (a Eukaryote seems to be any organism except very basic ones). Oculi (talk) 09:57, 7 February 2020 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Religious leaders in Ireland. In this case there is already an intermediate Category:Christian religious leaders in Ireland so I will leave the contents in that one. – Fayenatic London 07:38, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

- Propose deleting Category:Clergy in Ireland ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Nominator's rationale: Only content is Category:Christian clergy in Ireland Rathfelder (talk) 16:12, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- Delete- but not per nom (as having one subcat is not a sound reason to delete, Rathfelder alone having created hundreds of such categories in the 'organizations' tree: eg Category:Music organizations based in East Timor). There is no overall 'Clergy in' tree (see all categories beginning 'Clergy in'). (There is a 'Christian clergy in' tree.) Oculi (talk) 18:24, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- Delete per Oculi. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:57, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- Support if it is agreed that the "Christian clergy in foo country" can be scoped to have the same purpose. The sole remaining retain argument is that some Islamic sects also use the word "clergy". However we can also agree that this exception can be accommodated in the "Religious leaders in Foo country" tree structure. Laurel Lodged (talk) 08:30, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- In everyday language, clergy may also include rabbis and lamas. The concepts of clergy and religious leader are very similar for some people and rather different for other people (the latter especially occurs within Christianity). Just as an illustration, read Clergy. Personally I would be okay with merging all top level categories to Category:Clergy and religious leaders, Category:Christian clergy and religious leaders etc., while keeping e.g. Category:Catholic clergy for specific churches/denominations - but probably we will not reach consensus about that. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:56, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- We have Category:Religious leaders in Ireland but not Category:Religious workers in Ireland, Category:Irish religious leaders and Category:Irish religious workers. Oculi (talk) 17:46, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- It's to be expected that Category:Religious workers in foo country will be less well populated. Once bishops are eliminated (e.g. in the Category:Religious leaders in Ireland) then, practically speaking, that only leaves nuns since theologians and other workers do not have a remit that is confined to a geographic territory, hence they are usually defined by nationality instead of the territory in which they mainly work. Laurel Lodged (talk) 08:38, 8 February 2020 (UTC)
- Upmerge - This is a one item category, which constitutes an unnecessary category level. Clergy tends to refer to Christian ones. Those of other religions can satisfactorily be placed in the religious leaders parent. Peterkingiron (talk) 21:31, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

- Propose deleting Category:Australian subscription television series ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Nominator's rationale: This category is not really a defining category for a TV series. It's located only in Category:Australian television series by network, which itself has the same network categories. Despite being created in 2009, there aren't any other countries that have this category, which means that other editors don't find this sort of categorization useful either. Gonnym (talk) 11:13, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- Comment -- With the amount of repeated content on the TV nowadays, I suspect that what were originally subscription series get repeated as free-to-view ones so that this is not a notable characteristic, Peterkingiron (talk) 15:56, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
