Nominator's rationale: Indiscriminate grouping of individuals with the surname Fan, from 500BC to the present, with no familial relationship demonstrated. Most/All of them are already listed at Fan (surname). Timmyshin (talk) 21:21, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Odd cat with single entry. Entry should be in parent categories and already is, this has no need to exist as a separate category. JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 20:09, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t think that makes sense; I can’t remember how I came across this but in my time looking at articles on WP and news coverage of the South China Sea I have never come across it before. The islands, atolls etc. of the Sea are identified by the Sea, by the grouping (Spratly Is. etc.), and by the claims and counter claims associated with them. None are known by being "in Dangerous Grounds". It seems to be a navigation feature, i.e. of interest to ships navigating the region, but not used to categorise and identify islands etc. within it.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 12:36, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:52, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: With only 22 articles in/below Category:Lions and only 19 in/below Category:Felids of Africa this subcategory is unnecessary.  This category doesn't follow the normal naming convention for such categories - e.g. see Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2017_December_18#Category:Asian_antelopes and Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2018_August_25#Category:Southern_jaguars. DexDor (talk) 19:51, 5 September 2018 (UTC) Revised DexDor (talk) 19:28, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've adjusted the nom to also upmerge to the felids category. This category shouldn't be under a sub-saharan or vulnerable category so any placing of the articles in those categories should be done manually. DexDor (talk) 19:35, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support- most lion subspecies/populations are located in Africa, and according to the latest revisions, there is only two or three subspecies, two of which are definitely in Africa (the possible third is the Asiatic lion). Any other subspecies are either fossils, invalid, or debatable. The three other parent categories could easily apply to article:Lion.--SilverTiger12 (talk) 15:37, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:56, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: For consistency with other notability categories by topic area (e.g. Category:Film articles with topics of unclear notability). That all such categories, including this one, are broken is irrelevant as that can be fixed by a template editor or an administrator; see Template talk:Notability. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 17:40, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: This category is 13 years old and has never held more than one article. It is simply unnecessary overcatorization and can be upmerged to its parent. ChemNerd (talk) 11:13, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:45, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete per WP:OCASSOC and it is a hodgepodge of unrelated people, including Norwegians at war with the Hanseatic League, including people representing the three German Hanseatic Cities long after the Hanseatic League had faded away. Originally I thought purging and renaming to Category:Merchants of the Hanseatic League might be an option, but that would only leave a very small category. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:56, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete some of those categorized here are hardly merchants (e.g., Johann Smidt, a pastor who's claim to notability - notoriety? - was his attempt to expel the Jews from Bremen). Carlossuarez46 (talk) 02:19, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • At least purge -- While three cities were in theory still members after 1669, in practice it never met and was effectively defunct. We might have a category for merchants, captains and councillors serving the Hanse, but better to categorise them by their cities and the cities as members of the Hanse. The result of the discussion was: merge as nominated. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:49, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary and non-defining intersection of two unrelated categories. It's questionable whether the target Category:American animated television programs featuring anthropomorphic characters is even really necessary at all, but it certainly doesn't need a separate subcategory to isolate the adult animation from the rest of it. Bearcat (talk) 18:27, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:TOPTEN and WP:OCAWARD (WP:NONDEFINING)
In 1998, Barbados celebrated a centenary and created a top ten list (there's literally 10) of influential figures from Barbados' history. Other than sainthood, awards given out decades after a person's death are rarely defining and this category is already listified here.RevelationDirect (talk) 00:37, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Notified Ser Amantio di Nicolao as the category creator. – RevelationDirect (talk) 00:37, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep OCAWARD has an exception for the most notable ones, particularly Nobel laureates. This is the state's selection of 10, not that of a random person. We have been deleting national awards given to foreign dignitaries for diplomatic reasons and those given to 1000s of people, but this is different. There is no possibility of expansion.
