• Strong Keep - "Daddy" Warbucks has become a cultural icon, as has Little Orphan Annie. Warbucks is referred to in many colloquialisms and is generally considered to be a substitute for any rich person. A Google search shows 90,000 hits and though some are myspace pages or others trying to cash in on the ubiquitous knowledge of Daddy Warbucks' name, most refer to the fictional character. You young whipper-snappers don't seem to realize that "Daddy Warbucks" was a common expression/idiom/pejorative back in the day, although the article doesn't make much of a case for it (instead we get to hear about an episode of "Drawn Together"...) • Keep An independently notable character. Google book search shows hundreds of examples of "Daddy Warbucks" on his own: [1]. "Daddy Warbucks: bow tie, bald, mean and rich.". In the second instance, a bald headed man smoking a cigar is nicknamed "Daddy Warbucks, again without reference to the Orphan[2]. In the third instance "Daddy Warbucks" is used to represent a rich guy who could baili out a company: [3]. "Women against Daddy Warbucks" was the name of a anti-Vietnam War group, since Warbucks made his money as a war profiteer [4]. Warbucks is seen as the "apologist for corporate capitalism." [5].
