Native American studies

I'd like to add the very good European Journal of Native American Studies (Christian Feest editor) to the article-list, but perhaps only if it is known and available in Northamerica.--Radh (talk) 06:48, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 01:18, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Mark Harrison

Hello,

I am letting you know that an article you have been involved in editing, Mark Harrison (comic artist), has been nominated for deletion as part of a series of AFDs based on the deletion nomination of List of Magic: The Gathering artists. If there is anything you can do to improve the article further, your efforts would be appreciated. 204.153.84.10 (talk) 22:20, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Tiffany Midge, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.hanksville.org/storytellers/midge.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) CorenSearchBot (talk) 18:04, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Tiffany Midge requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —KuyaBriBriTalk 18:10, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

I've copied my reply that I wrote on the talk page of the article below in case it gets deleted before you see it.

":I'm afraid that this does appear to be a copyright violation and so will need to be deleted. The source given is the tagging is [1] and this would appear to be much older than the wiki (as it shows a copyright of 1997) and in the absence of any information to the contrary I'd have to assume the above wiki is a copyright violation of that page. However even if the article has been released under the "GNU Free Documentation License 1.2" as the wiki page states we still could no accept it as that is no longer a compatible licence for wikipedia - see WP:CFAQ. Also you should note that it is against policy for a page creator to remove a speedy tag - they should add a hangon tag instead."

Dpmuk (talk) 18:39, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

I am afraid I agree with Dpmuk, but it looks like there is a good chance we should have an article. The basic list part should be too simple to be copyrighted, and I would be happy to restore that to your userspace for you to work on, if you would like. Good luck, - 2/0 (cont.) 19:08, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

The article Tiffany Midge has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

This article about a living person contains no sources not affiliated with the subject, a requirement for notability. To avert deletion and remove this tag, at least one such source must be provided.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Sebwite (talk) 15:51, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Tiffany Midge (copy)

Hi -

I included reference to Norma Wilson's discussion of Midge in her book. This is an independent source. I have now included reference from the Cambridge Companion to Native American Literature. Please let me know if this does not meet the criteria. Vizjim (talk) 06:02, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

For now, I think it is good enough to be de-prodded. But it still needs some improvement. The more sources, the better. I found that there are 247 items listed when entering her name into Google Books. I would recommend doing your own work do place as many relevant sources there as possible to prevent the article from being challenged. I also recommend adding the article to one or more categories where it may belong.
I am not a deletionist, and I do not plan to propose it for deletion. I only came across this article when doing New Page Patrol, which I do occasionally. Being the creator, I recommend you try to improve the article as best as you can. Sebwite (talk) 22:00, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

New wikiproject?

Hi, I'm researching the possibilities of creating a new WikiProject:Indigenous peoples of the Americas because articles about indigenous peoples in the Caribbean, Central, and South America, especially contemporary peoples, are woefully neglected and cross-regional exchanges tend to be ignored. Would you have any interest in such a project if it were created? Cheers, -Uyvsdi (talk) 22:36, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Uyvsdi

Hi. In Kim Shuck, you recently added links to the disambiguation pages Polish and Native American (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). List of writers from peoples indigenous to the Americas

Looks like you've been taking a WikiBreak, but would you care to comment on a possible rewrite on the criteria for inclusion in List of writers from peoples indigenous to the Americas and share your thoughts on some authors with questionable notability that I've moved over to Talk:List of writers from peoples indigenous to the Americas. Thanks so much! Cheers, -Uyvsdi (talk) 20:17, 7 July 2012 (UTC)Uyvsdi

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Juulchin Tourism Corporation of Mongolia, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 03:02, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

William S. Yellow Robe: Thank you!!

Dear Vizjim, I really really really appreciate the push to create the Bill Yellow Robe page. I *think* I have done it now, and will be thrilled to have you do any editing you see fit. I'll also surely try to work on the other articles you recommended. In fact, I have my class this spring (mostly college seniors/juniors) working on Wikipedia articles about Native American authors, though our focus is specifically New England writers. So I'm very gratified to find other Wikipedians looking out for us new contributors, and for this topic!Ssenier (talk) 19:27, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Vizjim, I am one of Ssenier's students working on the Native American authors articles. My page has been awaiting review for about 2 weeks, and I was notified this morning that my page was denied. I investigated the situation, only to find that the editor who denied it appears to be a new Wikipedia user without any edit history. While the lack of many sources for my article is an issue I recognize, I'm wondering what I can do about this denial, and/or about this editor who seems to lack the credentials to deny my article. Thank you. Ame283 (talk) 15:14, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

Good afternoon Ame, I hope you do not mind me following you here. My credentials arise mainly from my career as a military leader in the 19th century, but in these difficult modern times I specialise in retail therapy. I believe the link to my edit history is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Arthur_goes_shopping - I trust that this is helpful. Hello,

Not sure if this is how to send someone a message on Wikipedia but here's to my first attempt.

Hope you like our page up until this point.

The suggestion is great, I find it interesting, but would you mind explaining how I could 'watch' this project in its entirety? Or do I have to 'watch' individual pages that I would like to contribute to? ENG203N (talk) 14:40, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

Bibliography

Woops. Okay I'll make sure I change that around then. Still trying to add any information that may be vital for this page's survival in the wiki world! I did want to ask though, can a foreword be used as a reference? I mean, it's a very brief biography of the author but I have the impression that it's not considered a great source. Compared to others at least. Thank you very much though for the suggestion. I e-mailed your university e-mail to ask for a title for the assignment. I do realise how silly that was because you were abroad, but Annetta also told me that we do not have to do it after all. Is that true?

File permission problem with File:Artiste small.jpeg

Thanks for uploading File:Artiste small.jpeg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 07:44, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:54, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Roger Russell requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. A tag has been placed on Andreas G Orphanides requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://euc.academia.edu/AndreasGOrphanides/CurriculumVitae. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Vizjim, rather than delete, I've blanked this and sent it to WP:CP for investigation; while much of the apparent overlap with the sources is caused by proper names, book titles and so on, there's some that is not. This may need some rewriting. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:32, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

Andreas G Orphanides

The webpage <https://euc.academia.edu/AndreasGOrphanides/CurriculumVitae> does not exist. How did you creat a copyright issue with it? What exists is the webpage <https://euc.academia.edu/AndreasGOrphanides> with which there is no copyright issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.116.202.23 (talk) 07:08, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

I regret to say that the way this issue developed is embarrassing. I would therefore inquire that the entire article is permanently removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.116.202.23 (talk) 10:37, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Jimmy Santiago Baca, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page American (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:10, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

  • Free advice, for whatever it's worth and at the risk of telling you stuff you already know, the best way to respond to the deletion nominaiton of an article on a notable subject is to improve and source the page. It's more effective than arguing. When a page has been substantively improved during discussion, you can add comment pointing out that WP:HEYMANN improvements have been made.E.M.Gregory (talk) 14:15, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Notice

The article Inspector Shimura has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fictional character. No evidence of stand-alone notability. Not a shred of analysis. Pure WP:PLOT and list of appearances in media. Fails GNG/NFICTION.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Winter

I have decided to start my Winter break a little earlier this year because I have so much to focus on outside Wikipedia. Thank you for bringing attention to the "Braves" article and if you plan to merge and need some help before the end of this week I would be happy to assist, otherwise, you have this. I appreciate the thoughtful discussion and even the way you responded to the lone initial dissenter. It was refreshing to be involved in such a civil, brief but impactful discussion. --ARoseWolf 19:05, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Enjoy your break!Vizjim (talk) 19:14, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for bringing forward these well thought-out move requests. It is producing conversation and discussion that is a critical aspect of improvement within the encyclopedia. Hopefully these articles will generate enough attention that we will see our amazing editorship engage in source and article improvement. There is so much potential. I am on break but will get on as I can until I can't anymore. Thank you for your well wishes. --ARoseWolf 18:06, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Yaanga. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Yaanga), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
