i saw your edit request on devanga article.
what i wanted to ask is how sure are you that devanga people are brahmins? any reliable evidence do you have? Prakash210 (talk) 07:36, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- There are direct references in Markandeya Purana
- And i beleive when we talk about Hindu mythology, it should be more based on original scripts rather than westernized interpretations. Vinothksoms (talk) 13:01, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- but it says about padmashali..how can we 100% tell that devanga and padmashali were one and the same? Prakash210 (talk) 14:04, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- We have references in the wikipedia itself to claim they both were of same descends. The split was later due to differences in their beliefs on the split w.r.t Shivism and Vaishanvism that was more pronounced in later ages. This split was found in various other brahmin communities as well. It is unjust to downgrade one another and expose our faiths for vulnerable criticisms from western interpretation.
- "The Padmasalis and the Devangas, who are another caste of weavers, were originally a single caste in ancient times and followed Vaishnavism. The caste then split due to differences in faith, with the Devangas being influenced ..." Vinothksoms (talk) 14:36, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Despite that argument, Various Hindu sacred texts, including the Bhagavad Gita, Tirumurai, and the teachings of the Bhakti saints, have emphasized the rejection of caste-based discrimination, advocating for spiritual equality and devotion over birth-based divisions and therefore caste-based ranking or sectoring is not in line with the egalitarian values presented in these scriptures. According to Wikipedia's policies, such as Neutral Point of View (NPOV) and No Original Research, content should reflect a balanced and verifiable presentation of ideas. Discriminatory identification based on caste contradicts these principles, as it is not supported by the majority of Hindu texts and is inconsistent with the inclusive spirit of modern Hindu reform movements. - there is an incident where Nandamuri Balakrishna (balayya) apologized to deva brahmin aka devanga. all the news channels addressed this deva brahmins. so can we use this as a reference then? Prakash210 (talk) 01:05, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't know the context of this completely but with due respect, i feel that any such community stands on its own merits rather than incidental references from celebrities. Phenomenological philosopher (talk) 12:03, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Phenomenological philosopher brother I know that but when I searched for recent incidents this came up..devanga community is not so simple. we have our own achievements. but we are looking for something particular. Prakash210 (talk) 12:12, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
