User talk:Teancum/Archive2

Hi, it's me again. Believe me when I say that I know where you're coming from in your removal of the external links from Bungie's game articles. I am very familiar with WP's policies on the subject. For instance, you'll note that they forbid "most fansites, except those written by a recognized authority", and allow "Sites which fail to meet criteria for reliable sources yet still contain information about the subject of the article from knowledgeable sources" (that part's under WP:ELMAYBE). I can easily demonstrate that the fansites at Bungie.org are (a) recognized authorities and (b) based on knowledgeable sources. I'll wait for a response from you before providing specific evidence, so I know that you are committed to a reasonable dialogue on this matter before spending more time on this subject.

For now I will just re-iterate that without permitting anyone to link to the fansites you removed links to, it is impossible for someone interested in one of those games to learn of the advancements that have been made in the several years since the game's release (aside from the fact that you removed Myth's fansites from the external links section but left the duplicate links up in the body of the article, thus not affecting that article's compliance with WP:EL after all). Therefore, I believe that these links in particular can be considered valuable enough to leave in-place. I hope that you take a little time to follow the deleted URLs and learn about the subject matter before responding, as the situation that exists with these Bungie titles is not an ordinary one among video games. Thank you.

P.S.: If you were concerned about the number of external links that were present in some of these articles, I would be glad to help you determine which links are not adding substantially to the article to avoid a "linkfarm" situation. --Iritscen (talk) 17:17, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks much for re-considering the removed links. The Myth article in particular definitely suffered from linkcruft, so I agree that most of those links deserved to be removed (after all, if the reader can follow even one link into the community, they should be able to get around just fine from there). But in fact I am not sure how I feel about The Tain getting cut along with every other fansite link. The thing about the Myth community is that they have an official place in the "family" at myth.bungie.org, but for various reasons unknown to me, they really only use their own server now at tain.totalcodex.net. However, they are still "the" fan community and an ongoing source of downloads and updates (they just released a new Myth II build recently, for instance), so it would be nice to provide just that one fansite link.
(And, in fact, by my count there are still six external links in the body of the article, not counting the fact that MariusNet is linked to three times, so I think once we agree on which links are important, the "Community hub" section can be blasted from the article, seeing as Wikipedia frowns on external links within article bodies.)
As to Marathon, it seems that the one really important link for downloading the Trilogy has already been restored (I don't think I will restore Traxus because it seems that general consensus is against wikis of that sort), and as to Oni, I agree with your suggestion to restore just oni.bungie.org, not the wiki. Thanks again, and sorry if I was overly zealous/verbose in defending the links before. I will take action on the Oni page and await your thoughts on keeping just the Tain link for the Myth page. --Iritscen (talk) 18:56, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi again, just wanted to remind you in case you lost track of it in my wall of text up there ^: I am still waiting on your opinion about keeping just the one fansite link for the Myth page(s), the one for the Tain, which is basically the community HQ (reasoning above). If it's okay with you, I will add that back in and remove the redundant section of external links further up in the article. Thanks. --Iritscen (talk) 15:08, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Saw game

Thanks for assessing Saw (video game), I really appreciate the constructive criticism you gave which helps make it a better article (even though its not even released yet). I have dewiki linked a lot of basic topics as suggested, I think I've taken out the obvious and left the right stuff. I am going to cut the watermarks soon on the images and get rid of a few. Also, I have spent a while cutting down and organizing the gameplay section, which I agree was a real bore to read. It wasn't really cut down that much though. Finally, a lot of the characters and gameplay references are from Youtube videos, which isn't exactly a reliable source. I know the content is accurate, it just doesn't seem good policy to ref it.

I was wondering if you could look at the article now, not necessarily assess it, but check the suggestions you gave me to see if I fixed the issues. I realize that it most likely won't make C class due to the lack of info because its not released but I'd appreciate it. Sorry to leave a huge long report on you lol GroundZ3R0 002 (talk) 03:45, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Me again. I've done everything thoroughly on the checklist you gave me and I think I've finally perfected this article with the information released thusfar. Would you mind assessing it this one last time so I can confirm it is worthy of a C class? Thanks, GroundZ3R0 002 (talk) 08:36, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Editing My Post

You deleted my post despite it not being a personal attack at all. Elitist is not an insult, so I would appreciate that if you are going to threaten me by saying what I am posting is personal attacks then you make it when I am actually insulting someone.Recycledmaterials (talk) 21:04, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

You mean like the negative connotation on the previous comment before mine that was directed to me? I'm sure no steps were taken in that one. Whether elitist is taken as a compliment isn't my fault because regardless it is still not an insult. If I called someone a pineapple and they were offended by it how would that make any sense to reprimand me.Recycledmaterials (talk) 21:39, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Hey there.

Hey, I know you are a pretty good editor and have had some experience editing video game related articles, so I was wondering if you could help me out? I have started an article in my subpages about cover systems in video games. I was hoping you could take a look at it here and give me some advice on it before I place it into the Wiki mainspace. I realize I have no references or images yet, but I was mainly curious about my writing style and if there are any extra subjects in this article I need to cover. Much appreciated, GroundZ3R0 002 (talk) 00:03, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much, this was exactly the type of advice I was looking for. I do have some sources so it isn't original research but I've been to lazy to add them just yet. I really appreciate the list of sources you left me as well. I will get working on this right away. Cheers, GroundZ3R0 002 (talk) 03:28, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Re: Cliche

Basically the user has a fetish for adding in resolution info to game infoboxes and edit warring to keep them in using subpar sources; see his contribs around June 17 2008 for his worse offenses. Then there's his continued insistence on adding pro-PS3 information to articles whereever possible, then calling us fanboys [1] So in general, it would be great for all involved if he just stayed away. Hang in there

Kudos for the consistent effort on Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and the sequel. The fancruft additions appear everyday, and without fail you tidy up. I know the feeling. Far Gate article - spelling change

Hi, thanks for your advice and help in improving the Far Gate article. I note you've gone through and changed all the spellings to American. My understanding was that once an article has been largely standardised in a single spelling format, etiquette was to leave it in that format? As it was largely written by me it was consistently Australian English. Is there a reason for the change? Appreciate your response, and thanks again for joining in on the attempt to improve the article! -DustFormsWords (talk) 23:49, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Saw game (again)

Hey again. I have been further editing the Saw (video game) article and so I listed it for assessment for WP:VG. Seeing as how we have corresponded in the past and you seem to be the primary assesser lately, I was wondering if you could assess it? I realize I am asking for either GA or A class, which is a lengthier assessment process, but I'm not sure how else to get it rolling. I would appreciate this if you had the time. Thanks again, GroundZ3R0 002 (talk) 07:25, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello! I noticed that you've been reviewing nominations at Featured article candidates. Thank you for your help, and I hope you will continue to contribute! You may already be familiar with the FAC criteria by now, but in case you aren't, you can check out the Featured article criteria. Also, the following dispatches are useful for reviewing nominations:

The best way to learn is by doing, but here is a quick reference of the things to check for each nomination you review:

Quick reference
A featured article exemplifies Wikipedia's very best work and is distinguished by professional standards of writing, presentation, and sourcing. In addition to meeting the policies regarding content for all Wikipedia articles, it has the following attributes.
  1. It is:
    1. well-written: its prose is engaging and of a professional standard;
    2. comprehensive: it neglects no major facts or details and places the subject in context;
    3. well-researched: it is a thorough and representative survey of the relevant literature; claims are verifiable against high-quality reliable sources and are supported by inline citations where appropriate;
    4. neutral: it presents views fairly and without bias;
    5. stable: it is not subject to ongoing edit wars and its content does not change significantly from day to day, except in response to the featured article process; and
    6. compliant with Wikipedia's copyright policy and free of plagiarism or too-close paraphrasing.
  2. It follows the style guidelines, including the provision of:
    1. a lead: a concise lead section that summarizes the topic and prepares the reader for the detail in the subsequent sections;
    2. appropriate structure: a substantial but not overwhelming system of hierarchical section headings; and
    3. consistent citations: where required by criterion 1c, consistently formatted inline citations using footnotes—see citing sources for suggestions on formatting references. Citation templates are not required.
  3. Media. It has images and other media, where appropriate, with succinct captions and acceptable copyright status. Images follow the image use policy. Non-free images or media must satisfy the criteria for inclusion of non-free content and be labeled accordingly.
  4. Length. It stays focused on the main topic without going into unnecessary detail and uses summary style where appropriate.

WPB

{{wpb}} is usually used if there are at least 3 projects. Is there a reason you feel the need for Talk:Fallout 3 downloadable content to have it? MrKIA11 (talk) 19:31, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading File:Fallout3 brokensteel.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Peripitus (Talk) 13:59, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Warcraft: Orcs & Humans

It seems you've failed the GA review of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans but provide no explanation. Please explain. --Philcha (talk)

Deficiences in your review at Talk:Warcraft: Orcs & Humans/GA1:

  • No examples of why you consdered the prose unsatisfactory. The sub-sebsections are similar to those to Age of Empires (video game) (GA, Jan 2009) - but Warcraft: Orcs & Humans was more concise.
  • I completely disagree with "The Reception section needs major cleanup. Consider combining everything into around five paragraphs". Read Jakob Nielsen (usability consultant) on how people who read on the Web or other screen-media need short pars. The paras were about different aspects of reviwers' comments.
  • No explain why you think the FUR for File:Warcraft Orcs v Humans 01.png is at fault.
  • "There is far too much detail for things like spells and things, and it unfortunately borders WP:GAMECRUFT" needs explanation.

I suspect I spent more time on reading your review than you did reading the article. With no explanations, right now your review looks like WP:IDONTLIKEIT. --Philcha (talk) 00:30, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Why was this failed with no hold at all? It is customary to hold for seven days. Your points could easily have been answered / addressed in that time. This looks like a very shoddy review to me - you didn't bother to put an under review tag on the GAN page according to this diff.[2]. Saw Sales

Thanks for the clarification. However, it does say "if possible, replace..." but in this case, there have been no other publications stating any sales figures at all for Saw, so I was wondering if this could be kept because this is the only source for sales? GroundZ3R0 002 (talk) 08:39, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and worded it: While these figures have not been challenged, the NPD Group, a more recognized sales authority, has yet to verify these sales numbers. so that readers would know these figures are most likely right but unverified. Sound good? If someone deletes it I won't bother re-adding it as the article is up for GA nomination and i don't want an edit war or it being failed for unreliable sources. Anyways thanks and happy edits, GroundZ3R0 002 (talk) 10:59, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Cover system article

Hey again. I noticed you put Cover system (gaming) under low importance on the talk page. I rather think it should be at least mid if not high importance due to its immense revolution in modern gaming and the influences in nearly every third-person shooter today as well as some first-person shooters. In addition, it has consequently changed video game development approaches and styles for many studios and it has become an even more fundamental aspect of gaming than even Survival Horror, which is high importance in wiki video games now. Okay everything you listed is done. I really must give most of the credit to User:MikeAllen, who did nearly all of the checklist you made. Everything you asked has been done. The only thing I am wondering, is the disambiguation/self redirect page says that two links link back to the article itself, but I cant seem to find them. Could you help me find them? Other than that, I believe this is a GA article by your standards. Cheers, GroundZ3R0 002 04:11, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

←→This may be out of place, but how and when is the right time to quality for a FAC? —Mike Allen 05:51, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

I believe this is it. You don't review FAC? I'm going to do a few more tweaks to the article and then list it as a candidate after that's done. It don't won't it to be turned down as soon as it's listed. lol —Mike Allen 06:20, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the comments on the article. I think I have addressed them all. Are you interested in doing a full review? :) Theleftorium 22:08, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much for taking your time and doing the review. I appreciate it! :-) Theleftorium 20:38, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Battlefront II mods?

I got battlefront 2 for PC to get the mods for it, and I come across your name- recieving the credit for these mods. Wanting to know if it was indeed you who made- or help make- them. ConvoPack 1.0, ConvoPack 2.0, and ConvoPack 2.2.--P dump (talk) 19:47, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

RE: Battlefront 2 mods

Nice. Those mods are awesome. I got the 2.o you made, but for some reason the KotOR era didn't install. Gonna get 2.2 anyhow. You made all of these just using the mod tools. I was wondering if you're gonna do any more. The New Jedi Order books offer a great era, so does the upcoming Old Republic game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by P dump (talk • contribs) 01:02, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

My apologies, you are indeed correct in reverting my external link change. Upon viewing the site again its clear this time, and the site actually fully loaded. The previous time I checked something must have messed up since the page was malformed and thus I jumped to the conclusion just from some of the wording there, as I could not see the disclaimers etc at the bottom. Jack o Lanturn in MUA2

Do you have a problem with Jack o Lanturn in Marvel Ultimate Alliance? Rodimus Rhyme (talk) 18:12, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Alright, you win. Rodimus Rhyme (talk) 21:25, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

World at War GAN

I have to say I felt that your review for World at War was surprisingly positive and lenient. I was considering reviewing that one myself, and had already done a cursory look over that highlighted some pretty important failings, though these could conceivably be solved in the hold period. I don't want to butt in the review, but I really feel the need to voice these concerns. So I'd ask that you might consider the following as you continue your review, but please don't think I'm trying to tell you what to do:

  • the poor flowing and far too long synopsis section: 6 paragraphs, over 900 words, mission-by-mission with all sorts of unnecessary trivialities. 1a and 3b
  • the lack of development information for a high-profile mainstream game, though some sources were pointed to in previous GANs. 3a
  • the reception section for a game of this profile built around essentially only four reviews (GameSpot, 1UP, IGN and OXM), far from being a comprehensive analysis of critical opinion. For more obscure subjects, small numbers of reviews can be accepted, but this is a high-profile mainstream game with plenty of reviews available. 3a
  • the presence of five non-free screenshots with poor captioning and none of them having a solid rationale to justify their presence. You've already picked up on this to an extent in the review. One screenshot is usually enough, two if really necessary, but five? 6a and 6b

Speedy deletion of Flashing light of death declined

You tagged Flashing light of death for speedy deletion under WP:CSD#A7. However, that speedy deletion criterion only applies to "An article about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (e.g. band, club, company, etc., except schools), or web content". An article about a general software product does not apply. Still less does an article about a computer/video game hardware product, which this is. There have been several proposal to extend the scope of A7 that have failed. There is not currently a consensus to apply A7-style speedy deletion outside the above-mentioned quite narrow range of topics (note the specific exception for articles about schools). I don't think there should be, but of course consensus can change. But until and unless the speedy criteria do change, please be careful to limit speedy deletion tags to articles clearly within the current criteria. Thank you. DES (talk) 20:02, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

First off, thanks for your assessment of that article. Looking at your edit summary in that quick-assessment, I wanted to note that the game's development and reception information were combined into one "History" section. I mean, there obviously is enough reception information in there but not enough development information to fit an entire stand-alone paragraph let alone its own stand-alone section. Another thought I just had was renaming "History" as "Development and Reception" or just "Reception". –MuZemike 20:26, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Star Wars: Battlefront III. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Star Wars: Battlefront III. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:09, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis plot length

Thank you for the notice. I cut it down again, it is now some 730 words. Considering that video games are usually much longer than feature films (where the word limit comes from), and that the adventure genre is probably the most plot-centric kind of games, I guess this should be okay. Again, thanks. Prime Blue (talk) 15:34, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Request for mediation

Not sure if I'd call it a mediation or not, but there's a dispute going on at the Precursors article - A guy wants to include mention of his own patch for the game, using this [5] as a source. As I see it, that's not a reliable source. Similarly, he has had a large part in editing the Vampire: The Masquarade - Bloodlines where he has added mention of a patch he has also made for that game. I've started debate on both article talk pages. Eik Corell (talk) 13:36, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Chronology of Warcraft II

Hi, Teancum. At User_talk:Philcha#Chronology_of_Warcraft_II I've been trying to make sense of the present tense vs. past tense in the backstory - Blizzard makes it very difficult. I'd be grateful if you could have a look and see if it's sensible.

Images for the MK9 page

I noticed you uploaded that image, if you don't mind, can I request two more images from you for that page? I think it should have at least 3 images in the content of the article. I'm not sure if there's something against having that many but I think it should have: gameplay (like the image you posted), an image of an x-ray move(to represent the innovation of the game), and the character select screen when the game is finally released like in the Victorious Boxers: Ippo's Road to Glory article. Sincerely Subzerosmokerain (talk) 20:45, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Before/after? I think someone posted one of Johnny Cage on a forum I went to, something about the hair being rendered poorly in the debut trailer but better in the E3 gameplay. I'll try to find it and link to you, and yeah I agree, it would be pointless at this minute to put more. But I expect the article to double in size by release.
