Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Because your account was used for promotion of a company, group, product or organization with a username that promotes or implies affiliation with the aforementioned. This includes, but is not limited to: adding spam links, creating promotional pages (this includes user pages), adding advertisements to existing articles, and adding promotional/favorable content about something you are affiliated with.

Use of Wikipedia for promotion of people, products, companies or other groups (even non-commercial or charitable ones) is considered Spam and is forbidden. Such actions will result in the blocking of the account involved. Please read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for our policies about this.

In addition, user accounts are for individuals only, not for companies or groups or other collective editing. Your username should reflect this. Usernames that appear to be promotional (such as those that make reference to a company or product) violate our username policy and are typically blocked to enforce that policy.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Tell us what new username you want to use. Please make sure that your new username does not violate our username policy and check that it has not already been taken (click here to search).
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If instead you believe that you have been blocked by mistake (i.e., you have not in fact been using Wikipedia for promotional purposes), please write {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this message box and replace the text "Your reason here" with the reason why. See also Wikipedia:Appealing a block for more information. Blueboy96 21:22, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I believe I have been blocked by mistake, as federal government employees are not authorized to self-promote. My intent was solely to place factual information about the new medical center into Wikipedia for the sole purpose of public knowledge. I apologize my user name violated the username policy; my intent, again, was solely to be contributing as a subject-matter expert at the site, and not to publicize. My over-arching intent is to contribute to other pages, as a whole, in many topics (not just health care). If allowed, please change the name to FHCC. Also, if approved, do I need to re-create the page, or will ir revert back? Thank you for your time and consideration.

Decline reason:

You are welcome to edit under a name not related to your employment, in areas not related to your employment. So FHCC wouldn't be acceptable, as it would appear to also reflect your employment. --jpgordon::==( o ) 00:22, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hello. I’m still trying to clarify the actual COI with this situation, as the information posted was simply factual and not opinionated at all. I was simply blocked (and my page deleted) because of my user name. Plus, according to Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations, “Editing articles that you are affiliated with is not completely prohibited; you may do so as specified within the COI guideline, but you must be extremely careful to follow our policies. Don't resist when other people edit your contributions. If you follow our basic rules, your edits should be accepted by the community. If you don't, however, your edits may be reverted and you may end up blocked if you do not stop when asked to.” Everything was edited from a neutral point of view, so I really don’t understand the conflict. So, if it’s just the name, could you please change my username to Rocketman2010 – thanks!

Decline reason:

However, your username is still a problem. Please use the {{unblock-un}} template to request an unblock when you've chosen a new one. Thanks. Exploding Boy (talk) 01:48, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What are you going to write about besides FHCC, which you are affiliated with? You stated above that you would repost the page. Triplestop x3 15:45, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose the same things that anyone else writes about: Those things that interest me. I'll do my best to contribute to those things, and those things which I can apply a neutral point-of-view: music, English, journalism, military, raising children, etc. Look, I'm an educated person with a long journalist and military background. I don't have an interest in only updating this page. I was simply making a page that was missing; I just created it and would think (hope) that others would contribute to it. As long as it's not advertising or blatant biased views, what exactly is wrong with starting a page that Wikipedia hasn't created yet? Please understand that I’m not trying to argue with any of you, but more trying to decipher where this third-degree (mildly hostile) questioning is coming from. Thanks! --Lovell FHCC Public Affairs (talk) 18:51, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The hostility is mostly general exasperation; one of the most common things we have to deal with is marketeers, public relations people, advertisers, and public affairs officers attempting to use Wikipedia to benefit their companies, organizations, schools, bands, whatever. Recently, for whatever reason, there's been a big uptrend in this problem. It's entirely possible that one out of every hundred people who are writing about their organizations are capable of adhering to Wikipedia's crucial neutral point of view policy; but most such people are doing exactly what they should be doing from their organizations' point of view: writing for the benefit of the organization. --jpgordon::==( o ) 20:19, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I completely understand, and agree with you that the type of self-promotion you described can be frustrating (and generally tacky). But, I assure you that this was not the case in this situation. I’m just a little taken aback by the immediate, aggressive hostility I received without any type of review of the material I posted. I was simply blocked from the start. If anyone had actually taken the time to read the edits, they would have seen that I too hold the neutrality policy as a crucial part of doing business, just as you – particularly in a Wiki environment. I sympathize with your uphill plight, but I still think I should be given the chance to at least have my posted examined before the jury and executioner come into play. --Lovell FHCC Public Affairs (talk) 22:20, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much

Thanks so much. I can't edit the username change page, as my current username is still blocked. Any idea how to go about this? Thansk! --Lovell FHCC Public Affairs (talk) 22:59, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Argh, every single time! Thanks Jp. Exploding Boy (talk) 23:16, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not yet. Still can't edit on the username change page; still telling me that I'm blocked. Can someone please put this in for me? Thanks! --Lovell FHCC Public Affairs (talk) 23:50, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. Try now. Exploding Boy (talk) 00:03, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Got it changed; thanks for the help. One last question: Is there any method to get my changes put back to the way they were prior to being blocked? They were all factual, but were deleted when I was blocked. Thanks! --Rocketman2010 (talk) 00:51, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
