Yo Pablo. just recently read your article "How to create a language". Twas a great help in creating my conlang. -Dantai_Amakiir —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dantai Amakiir (talk • contribs) 18:48, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I need your help in this article. For months Argentina hass been included as a regional power, with two valid sources backing up that information. An user known as Kardrak started taking out Argentina for no reason a month ago. I reverted his changes, and I also lloked up more sources stating that Argentina is a regional power to make my point more solid. There are four external sources now. But he just wont care. He edits the article and just removes Argentina without any discussion, and he doesnt care about the four external sources I found. Sometimes, he removes Argentina without logging in to avoid the 3RR rule. Please assist! Aletano (talk) 15:25, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pablo! Nice work at translating Noche de los Lapices! I didn't do it now, I'm a bit in a hurry, but maybe adding the ages of the high school students would be useful? Else, I've left a comment proposing to rename National Reorganization Process, your opinion is of course needed! Que te vaya bien, saludos! Tazmaniacs 12:43, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment on the talk page today. I feel that Potomacfever is attacking me for some reason, perhaps because he has political disagreements with the book and its author, who happens to be a friend of mine. I did not write the article on this book, but since I saw it, I have tried to improve it. And as for Romm's bio, I merely split it out of the Hype article and then expanded it with online sources. Today Potomacfever put the author's bio up for AfD. I would value your input to the article itself and also to the Afd for Joseph J. Romm. This whole issue needs more editors to get involved and resolve it. Regards, -- Ssilvers 23:45, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should this go back in the article?: The book states, "Neither government policy nor business investment should be based on the belief that hydrogen cars will have meaningful commercial success in the near or medium term." I think that's the core of Romm's thesis. If you agree, please put it where you think best. I am trying to minimize my edits on the article, because of the accusations by Potomac. Thanks! -- Ssilvers 21:56, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal on Néstor Kirchner

Greetings. I'm looking at the history of vandalism on this article. Can you help me here: look at [2] (if you get this message within the next couple hours), and check all the accounts created between about 17:15 and 17:30 on 21 September. That's when the vandal was making most of his throwaway accounts. I've blocked one more obvious one (KingofAr) but maybe you will recognize some more. There is also a similar vandalism spree (which you may have noticed) on the Spanish wiki. Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 01:28, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's because they are "aged" sockpuppets (he created them on 21 Sept) -- which is long enough to bypass sprotection. This is why it would be good to shoot them out of the user creation log. We also could request a checkuser on this. Thanks for your excellent work! Antandrus (talk) 01:31, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think things are getting a bit out of hand at the Quran and Science article, Arrow740 is being pretty insulting. I am still too new to know exactly how to handle it, though I did put a note of the WP:Civil policy on the talk page, if that was not my place please let me know. Ratherhaveaheart

I'm sorry, but saying that "a drop of semen" and "a single sperm cell" are the same thing gets me angry. Any "insults" I made were, from my perspective, true observations. Anyway I think you've been something of a moderating influence on that article, though it looks like you don't care about it enough to keep it fair, or else when I came across it yesterday it wouldn't have been the poorly written, badly spelled list of half-truths that it was. Is that possible that they delete the article now and then I work on my User space. I will try to give all the references and making it as best as possible. I will fairly also try to give other side views with references (you and other neutral people are also welcome to contribute). Once we are done than we could move it back? Is that possible ? 08:28, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After The Quran and science was saved Ibrahimfaisal removed all my additions, so I renominated it for deletion. Could you weigh in? Arrow740 21:31, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hello Pablo-flores, i know some time ago on the talk page you said you weren't going to bother with the article because of the state of affairs at that time. i do however believe your contributions would be extremely useful and i do think that we can move forward as long as the editors concentrate on working together instead of against each other. there are a number of reasonable editors popping up who seem to be interested in making something of this article, and as long as you are still interested i would definitely recommend you help contribute wherever you can. thank you. Greetings and dulce de leche

Hey there, I'm Gustavo and I want to introduce myself and to collaborate in this beautiful project. I'm Uruguayan but I'm currently living in Spain, country where I'm studying to major in English. I hope we can keep in touch and help each other with language. By the way, "dulce de leche", as you mentioned it in your user page, is not Argentinian but Uruguayan as well, so I would rather use the word River Plate... You will see, there are several theories on the subject and you may have your opinions which do not prove to be fully considered as true or reliable evidence. Indeed, we should take into account the fact that Uruguay and Argentina were and still are countries with a similar history, more or less the same kind of culture and customs and, what is more, we both speak "Rioplatense Spanish", perhaps that being the reason why here, in Europe, people tend to associate Uruguay with Argentina and viceversa. They don't see the difference, then, I say, should we? It's not my aim to argue about something irrelevant but I thought we, as River Plate brothers, must take conscience of this fact and stop with that rivalry. Nice to meet you and I hope we can be friends. Sorry for expressing my point of view, lol. Regards, --Gustave - May I help you? 23:58, 29 October 2006 (UTC) PS: If you don't mind I'll put this in the discussion page of "dulce de leche".[reply]

Uruguayan newspapers

I've read in the cellulose conflict talk page that you were looking for more websites of Uruguayan newspapers. Here you have some of them: the websites of the best-seller dairy newspapers are La República (left-wing, socialist or sort of, usually supports the current administration), El País (liberal conservative, linked with the Herrerismo, Partido Nacional), El Observador (conservative, linked with the Catholich Church) and Últimas Noticias (n idea on what ideology it supports, linked with the Unification Church), while some of the weekly newspapers are La Juventud (radical left, linked with the 26 de Marzo, Frante Amplio), Crónicas (liberal conservative, probably linked with the Illuminati), Brecha (democratic socialist, independent) and Búsqueda (social democratic and/or social liberal, independent, no current website).

I hope this is useful to you :) -- NaBUru38 00:15, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Railways in Argentina

Saludos y gracias. --200.85.115.19 02:57, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Naming conventions

Pablonque, I know it was not a written rule, but so far cities had the format Name, Province except for the capitals which had Name, Argentina (Mendoza, Argentina, La Rioja, Argentina, Formosa, Argentina, Córdoba, Argentina, etc.) This is specially helpfull for ambiguities with other important cities in countries ( La Rioja, Spain, Córdoba, Spain).

Even though it's true that there are other cities that collide with foreign cities, having a Citiy, Province collision with another country would be quite weird, and (usually) only the capital city has the same name that its subdivision.

BTW, Tobias have been moving a lot of pages in a way I don't agree. Mendoza, Viedma and several other should point to the city, and a proper City (disambiguiation) article should be made available. See for instance the useless Resistencia. Mariano(t/c) 10:24, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I kinda had it with discussions, and I really don't care that much about the naming. Do as you see fit. BTW, I going home in 3 weeks, this time for a year or so! Mariano(t/c) 07:53, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dict

Hiya, fellow language-lover. I've only now found out about your Argie slang dictionary. As a contributor to the Spanish Wiktionary, I'd be glad to be able to lift some of your stuff for our own use. I suppose you wouldn't object, but the license you've chosen (cc-by-nc-nd) utterly precludes any sort of wiki usage. How would you feel about dual-licensing it under the GFDL? It would speed thing up a bit if I ever got around to writing a parser for easy formatting.

Drop me a line when RL allows for this superfluous stuff. Best, Taragüí @ 18:36, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BTW: You're missing a football-related definition for "caño" (a pass delivered through the opposing defense's legs). And I'd venture that "sarpar" is, in fact, but a semantic extension of "zarpar" (departing, as it were, from the established norm). But I have no recollection of seeing it in any published sources. Taragüí @ 18:45, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
We're not so pedantic as regards sources over there at the wikt. If accompanied with a solid, real-life example of language in use, things pass muster without an Academy to vouch for them. And I'm certain I'll be able to document most, if not all, of your stuff with Clarin.com and Página/12 quotations, my favourite source nowadays.
CC-BY is indeed much better for reuse. I'll simply state in the history that the entries are so licensed, so that anyone willing not to undergo the additional pains the GFDL imposes may choose to do so. Thanks a lot for the support. Best, Taragüí @ 21:56, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Menem

Hello. Just a quick question on phrasing: when we say things like "Menem cut the military budget" or "Menem abolished conscription", do we actually mean "Menem signed (and maybe advocated) legislation doing these things"? Presumably the Congress has a role too. Biruitorul 06:43, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Congress has never been independent, least of all under a Peronist president, ever. What Menem didn't want, Congress didn't pass, and conversely, what Menem wanted, the Congress always gave (the opposition either sheepishly agreed, or was outnumbered). But yes, you make a valid point; we should find references that indicate which measures were passed as presidential decrees, which were sent to Congress by the Executive, and which were original Congress initiatives. —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 19:50, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hey, just a quick question.

I added my link to the Spanish language wiki after not hearing anything about it in the talk section. In the history of the Spanish language page, you mention it is for being a tips based site. I can understand that a lot of people must try to spam wiki, but I don't think I'm doing that at all.

My site is tips based (just like wiki) because I want to help anyone learn Spanish. It is a free site, but if someone wants to help me out (Hosting isn't free) I'm more than happy to take their money to improve the quality of the site.

Just wondering what it would take to put the link back on the page?

Cheers, Sean —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 58.107.172.115 (talk) 12:48, 9 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

hey Pablo,

Looks like it's a matter of understanding what wiki is all about and I'm certainly not an expert on that. It seemed logical to me that wiki would want to link to quality sites to help the readers, but if that isn't the case, then I stand corrected. I'm not sure if I have a case, but I am dedicated to building the best free learn Spanish site around. I've looked at a lot of the top rankers in the search engines and I'm not really impressed. A link from wiki would help me in that endevour, but if it is not to be, then it is not to be. I'll have a think and might see if I can make a case by starting a topic in the talk section. Some corrections of Roo72 statements:

  • Your warning for IP: User talk:217.98.20.20 was for other internet user and article - this is IP number of large Internet provider and can be used by hundreds of users. Roo72 used this confusing situation for his own private interest
  • the article is locked on his obviously POVED version - with accusation of fascism of democraticaly elected president and prime minister of european country without any single proof attached.
  • The user is known for his political edits - (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Roo72)

Peronism

These recent uncommented anonymous edits to Peronism strike me as not entirely wrong, but at best a mixed bag. I simply don't know enough to go in and make corrections, and the article is way undercited. I'm calling it to your attention in hopes that you can do a better job than I would. - Jmabel | Talk 23:49, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding those edits, I don't really know what to do about them... My first impulse was to revert them because they are unsourced, but then the content of the previous version which was changed was also unsourced, and the current one is, as you said, not clearly wrong, and quite NPOV (with the exception of the wording about fascism). I'm by no means an expert on Peronism and I don't have good sources on me. If you feel you can do better, start a discussion in Talk:Peronism and invite the anonymous editor in question. —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 00:39, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The article in general eventually needs an overhaul, but I hesitate to wade in without good sources at hand. I'd barely dare write a factual biographical piece on Perón, let alone the much more slippery topic of peronismo. - Jmabel | Talk 00:51, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To say what really happened is not vandalism. When we talk about ideas, there are as many truths as there are human beings upon this earth, but history is only one and immutable, like the natural laws that govern the universe, because it can not be changed. To say that Jose Ignacio Rucci was murdered by the Montoneros leftist organization on September the 25th, 1973, a couple of days before the presidential election, is not vandalism. It's part of history. When an organization, whose members do not summit their political ideas to the popular vote during an election under the established Supreme Law, which is the National Constitution, and the institutions that make up a nation, but rather break the law and try to get their extremist ideas across through murder, kidnapping, and mutilating, then these guys are plainly terrorists, an association of psychopaths. I advice Mr. Pablo-Flores to go back to school and learn more, because he seems a bit ignorant.

Your the one....

Who puts uncited claims and your unjust obvervations on the talk pages and Argentina pages. Like your claim on the "substantial number of immigrants from south Asia". You then again state you see beggers in parts of Argentina that are Mestizo so you automatically assume that the Mestizo/Indian population is more then the population of Blacks in the US! comon. Why is that racist now because I am going against what you said? I don't think so. Its Obvious that Mestizos dont make up nearly as much as Blacks in US! So stop claiming me to be a racist as you seem to be the one who is bothered by Argentina's Whiteness, Pablo you are. This is not a ""Personal attack"".(XGustaX 17:58, 8 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I didn't say anything about the Asian immigrants. Since it was removed without justification, I removed it. And I'm not assuming anything about mestizo population. If you cared to look, I restored the "97% white" figure when it was replaced by a lower number, because that lower number wasn't sourced. You're now saying I seem to have racist bias against white people. That's not only false but clearly a provocation. I won't accept more falsities from you in my talk page. Ok I am sorry then. I only mean to tell you because you and me know, as Argentines, that the Mestizo/Indian population is no were near larger then the black population in the US. You said before that you "hated the CIA world fact book" for that reason. I must have misunderstood or something. So to me it just seemed like you were being baist against white people for that reason. I am sorry if my edits came off as me being a jerk. I was not in anyway trying to upset or get you in a trap. Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article CONLANG, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. utcursch | talk 11:10, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Argentine Railways

Hi Pablo, Many thanks for the barnstar. I'm having a fascinating time sorting out all the old Argentine Railway Companies and the way that they have merged, were then nationalised and later privatised again. My aim is to provide a summary of all these various changes over the years. Needless to say I'm learning a great deal about the history of Argentina from all this. I should perhaps mention that my wife is Argentine and that I'm a regular visitor to your country.

One thing you may be able to help me with. I want to use the image:
Imagen:FCMMAP1jpg.JPG|thumb|250px|Mapa del trazado del Ferrocarril Midland atravesando la provincia de Buenos Aires
from the Spanish section of Wiki, in my new article Ferrocarril Midland de Buenos Aires in the English section. I've tried prefixing the image name with :es: but it comes up only as a link and not as the image itself.

Best regards David(Talk • Contribs) 15:37, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help, it's fixed. David(Talk • Contribs) 21:48, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pablo, someone has been playing with the Agentinian section (a Venezuelan it seems). Could you check the page when you get back?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.16.20.42 (talk) 11:12, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Again vandalism in the demographics

I know we have been building the Argentinian site for like wow three years now. But like always another guy who doesn't bother in read the archive with the previous discussions is changing the section. Dunadan or something like that.

Dunadan:

We decided included the genetic research (the one you posted is not the only one and other ones contradict this one). Besides we discussed it was made to the entire population (10% of which is not Argentinean-born but immigrants).

You are putting the minority groups that were taken in that research (which was very discussed anyway) into the majority of the population.

Second we (like Americans, brazilians and Canadians) decided not to included the diversed genetic studies because is not relevant, is like said norwegian because they have a 1% of african admixture are not scandinavian!.

Check out the archive of discussions in the Argentinian section, and you'll the other studies too. We just added in the largest article.

As for the article we decided only included the official numbers of the government and the CIA.

As for the research you cited (which is just one of many) with different results, and the ones that are made to white people are the ones that account to have in mind the admixture in white people, which you just seems to included without noticed that the research was made to the inhabitants a great percentage not "Argentines", you're misunderstanding some dates. that was about mtda and y-chromosome not about mixture in dna.

And what the reaserch shows (again there was another research with another very different results) is that 10% have mtda and y-chromosomes form their parent that COULD BE (but not necessary are) compatible with native americans. You can have 80% european descendents and come out with these results, and anyway, the markers taken as native american are presented in a minority of southern europeans (again check out the archive) and are common in Asians (which account for about 1% of the Argentinian inhabitants this days).

And finally because of this and because the phenotipical traits are the most important in the Argentina, the United States etc for race. And they are present in like the census said 95% of the NATIONAL population, those are the numbers important at least in this article.

And again check out the previous discussions in this subject. Americans decided not to included the results of distant native americans ancestries in white people in the main article because of the same reason that we Argentinians didn't because the are many they don't agree with each other and because they are not relevant for this article.

Second you

Further to the message above to you from IP user 190.16.20.42 and your semi protection of the article to try and stop the edit war, I have tried to reach a compromise in this by asking the IP user and Snowhite1985 (who would appear to be the same person), to discuss this issue on the talk page as they also do not leave an edit summary which would help to prevent other users thinking their edits could be vandalism. I have asked them twice now also to sign comments. And also asked them to leave an edit summary, and to discuss this on the talk page, all to no avail so far. I don't know the rights nor wrongs in this but something needed to be done to stop the edit war. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 01:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi thanks for the message, I have read through the various discussions on the articles talk page about the demographics and it does seem that there is always going to be disagreement. However, keeping any content to that which is sourced which seems to what has recently happened at least works toward a compromise. I see from the above users talk page that they have agreed to leave the content that is in there now and rather than changing it to a different version, try adding to it. That might work, hopefully! ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 02:23, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think he is problably from Argentina, and does not understand English, and unfortunately I have very little Spanish. Thanks. Viewfinder 20:00, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My principal objection to these links are the incorrect elevations. The EIR survey which he highlights is consistent with the other sources, but the linked site claims that the EIR elevations are 40m higher. Otherwise, there are some nice images and it does not appear too commercial, it would probably be OK. Viewfinder 20:07, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Martín Lousteau

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Martín Lousteau, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Martín Lousteau seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Martín Lousteau, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Placebox

Hi, sorry for bothering you on vacation. I have been using the placebox templates you created quite a lot recently for places in Argentina. It is being suggested that they be replaced by {{Infobox Settlement}} becuase it contains a map. I wondered if it would be possible to put the map function into the placebox, which would save rewriting loads of information into the new format like this and preserve the Argentina specific functions like postcode and telephone which I think are pretty neat and would be lost in the conversion. Alternatively the Argentina specific functions could be copied into the Infobox settlement template. I'll leave it with you because I wouldn't know how to start coding either way. Argentine English

Evening Pablo I'm recollecting information about the Argentine English in Argentina. This page that I attached here was the last version before to have been deleted. I believe that it was a step back to the expression or our culture, can you help me to rebuilt it? Here is the las discussion on it deletion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Argentish Hava a nice day. Carau(User talk:Carau) The mentioned page:

[1]

  1. ^ [1] Argentine English (as the last wiki version was)
I'm afraid I agree with the deletion, and I would further advise you not to take it personally, avoid blaming it on "authoritarianism" and least of all invoke the disappeared in reference to what was done to the article you created. It doesn't help your cause, and as a comparison it's completely tactless.Wikipedia does not exist to promote new truths or discoveries or personal anecdotes that may point to new developments in society; it exists to report on things already known and well-documented. You're free to request a deletion review, but based on my experience, it just won't fly. —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 20:50, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Pablo, Thanks for your information on the issue; sorry about that tactlessness by mentioning that, certainly I was a little bit angry given the deletion decision. Anyway let me know whether you find some well-documented sources to get something on the use of English in Argentina. Best..

Wikimedia Stories Project

Aloha!

My name is Victor and I work with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. We're chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade new people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I find stories that drive our annual fundraising efforts. It's important to convey the incredible diversity of people who've come to rely upon Wikipedia every day.

I'd really like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia.

I will be in Buenos Aires from the 10th - 11th of March 2012.

I'm hoping you will elaborate on your story with me. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project!

Thank you,

Victor Grigas

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.

(https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ica/108743492490504)

Espero no te moleste.

Language-population update project

Hi. The 18th edition of Ethnologue just came out, and if we divide up our language articles among us, it won't take long to update them. I would appreciate it if you could help out, even if it's just a few articles (5,000 articles is a lot for just me), but I won't be insulted if you delete this request.

A largely complete list of articles to be updated is at Category:Language articles citing Ethnologue 17. The priority articles are in Category:Language articles with old Ethnologue 17 speaker data. These are the 10% that have population figures at least 25 years old.

Probably 90% of the time, Ethnologue has not changed their figures between the 17th and 18th editions, so all we need to do is change "e17" to "e18" in the reference (ref) field of the language info box. That will change the citation for the artcle to the current edition. Please put the data in the proper fields, or the info box will flag it as needing editorial review. The other relevant fields are "speakers" (the number of native speakers in all countries), "date" (the date of the reference or census that Ethnologue uses, not the date of Ethnologue!), and sometimes "speakers2". Our convention has been to enter e.g. "1990 census" when a census is used, as other data can be much older than the publication date. Sometimes a citation elsewhere in the article depends on the e17 entry, in which case you will need to change "name=e17" to "name=e18" in the reference tag (assuming the 18th edition still supports the cited claim).

Remember, we want the *total* number of native speakers, which is often not the first figure given by Ethnologue. Sometimes the data is too incompatible to add together (e.g. a figure from the 1950s for one country, and a figure from 2006 for another), in which case it should be presented that way. That's one use for the "speakers2" field. If you're not sure, just ask, or skip that article.

Data should not be displayed with more than two, or at most three, significant figures. Sometimes it should be rounded off to just one significant figure, e.g. when some of the component data used by Ethnologue has been approximated with one figure (200,000, 3 million, etc.) and the other data has greater precision. For example, a figure of 200,000 for one country and 4,230 for another is really just 200,000 in total, as the 4,230 is within the margin of rounding off in the 200,000. If you want to retain the spurious precision of the number in Ethnologue, you might want to use the {{sigfig}} template. (First parameter in this template is for the data, second is for the number of figures to round it off to.)

Dates will often need to be a range of all the country data in the Ethnologue article. When entering the date range, I often ignore dates from countries that have only a few percent of the population, as often 10% or so of the population isn't even separately listed by Ethnologue and so is undated anyway.

If Ethnologue does not provide a date for the bulk of the population, just enter "no date" in the date field. But if the population figure is undated, and hasn't changed between the 17th & 18th editions of Ethnologue, please leave the ref field set to "e17", and maybe add a comment to keep it so that other editors don't change it. In cases like this, the edition of Ethnologue that the data first appeared in may be our only indication of how old it is. We still cite the 14th edition in a couple dozen articles, so our readers can see that the data is getting old.

The articles in the categories linked above are over 90% of the job. There are probably also articles that do not currently cite Ethnologue, but which we might want to update with the 18th edition. I'll need to generate another category to capture those, probably after most of the Ethnologue 17 citations are taken care of.

Jump in at the WP:LANG talk page if you have any comments or concerns. Thanks for any help you can give!

Proposed deletion of Sect (World of Darkness)

The article Sect (World of Darkness) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Role playing game/book tagged for notability for nearly 7 years and has no references at all

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:47, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
