Hello. I thought you might want to know that an article for which you closed an AfD last April (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Political Stew) has been re-created. It appears as if somebody attempted to list the new incarnation for AfD, but the template links to the old discussion. The current article seems to be the same self-promotion as before.--WilliamThweatt 01:25, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Dug up from the archives...needlessly Protected redirect at Citation needed

Reinstating a redirect

Hi - You deleted and locked the redirect at "Citation needed". I and a few others would like this reinstated, please - see Talk:Citation needed for comments in favour. I hope you don't mind doing this. Thanks. --mcld 10:18, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

P.S. Sorry if it is bad etiquette to ask you personally to do this. I've just found Wikipedia:Deletion_review so I've added it to that list. --mcld 10:27, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Somehow, this still hasn't been done. Whether it's bad etiquette or not to ask administrators directly, I don't understand why it ever got protected in the first place. -- Randall00 Talk 22:29, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
"That's to prevent people from linking it to Wikipedia:Citation needed."
Talk:Citation needed has an overwhelming amount of rational support for a more appropriate redirect. That's fine if you protect it to prevent people from linking to nonexistent Wikipedia policies, but the current redirect should at least point to the right article. As several users pointed out, nobody who types "citation needed" into the Search box is looking for an article on citation. -- Randall00 Talk 22:40, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Err, "that's great"?? Are you actually not going to fix that? -- Randall00 Talk 22:51, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
It is against policy to create cross namespace redirects per Wikipedia:Redirect#When_should_we_delete_a_redirect.3F:
You might want to delete a redirect if one or more of the following conditions is met (but note also the exceptions listed below this list):
5. It is a cross-space redirect out of article space, such as one pointing into the User or Wikipedia namespace. The major exceptions to this rule are the "WP:" shortcut redirects (like WP:RFD), which technically are in the main article space but in practice form their own "pseudo-namespace". All "articles" beginning with "WP:" are in fact redirects.

That category

Please stop. see WP:DRV#Category:Wikipedians born in 1992 and several related TfDs. Apart from anything else, repeated deletion and undeletion is called a wheel war and could see you in front of ArbCom, which I don;t think would help anyone. Guy (Help!) 22:27, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Deletion

Could you explain why you deleted Category:Wikipedians born in 1989? Proto  00:47, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Agreed. "nah, some people in here are younger than 18" does not sound like any policy I've ever heard of. Blast 17,02,07 12:34 (UTC)
Not valid. WP:IAR does not allow one to delete categories or articles because of factual inaccuracies. Fix the offending userpages; don't delete a perfectly valid user category. If you honestly believe a policy is stopping your ability to improve the encyclopædia, please explain which one. Blast 18,02,07 00:44 (UTC)
It was not brought to my attention, and I am not ubiquitous. As well, you still have not elaborated on your use of WP:IAR as a reason for deletion. Blast 18,02,07 02:59 (UTC)
I see. I'll ask him what's going on, then. Blast 19,02,07 20:57 (UTC)
I think I understand now. This is because of WP:CHILD, if I'm not mistaken. However, that never reached official policy status, and the 1989 category, as of now (for users born in January and February, at least), would be exempt anyway. Blast 19,02,07 21:13 (UTC)

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Category:Wikipedians born in 1989. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review. I don't have any strong views one way or another, but I think there needs to be some concensus as to whether this category should be kept or not. WjBscribe 10:11, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

There is also a discussion on AN here about your deletion of some related categories and a concern that you may be engaged in a WP:POINT violation or engaged in wheel-warring over this issue. I know that you must be sensitive to these issues as a member of one of these categories, and also that the community has not come to a clear consensus over the matter, but I hope that you can avoid doing anything that would add to the flames. Two reversions without comment or basis. Next time assume good faith before you revert any changes to a page, even anonymous ones. Check your work, check what was changed, then ask if you don't understand what was done. --Basique 01:39, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

I beg to differ. It was basically just two reverts. On some topics this might be enough to justify a block, but not on a recent news story. Cool Hand Luke 22:44, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

No, protecting it was not a totally crazy move. I just mean that if this had been listed on Wikipedia:Requests for page protection, I have no doubt protection would have been declined. Cool Hand Luke 22:54, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Restoring blocked user's pages

Why did you restore User:Clockwork Soul? General consensus is that, unless there's a particular historic reason to keep an indefinately blocked user's page, they are deleted after a month or so. See the description on Category:Temporary_Wikipedian_userpages, etc. There's no good reason to keep these pages. They could go through prod to achieve the same thing, but that's really not necessary, especially once they've already been deleted. -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 05:59, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Could you please link your often-used userpage header template from your userpage? If there are any other often-used templates, please link them too. This way it would be easier to access them, rather than going to someone's page that contains the template, and clicking edit or view source, and then copying the template adress, then posting it onto a userpage or subpage. I need your help

On the DragonBall wikia, I created some templates there such as a Template:Message box and have been trying to properly create [[2]] exactly like you created a User:1ne/Title here on this Wikipedia. I could really, really use your help, man. We don't have any administrators there to help out at this stuff and a friend of mine there couldn't find anyone also. See, I just want it created obviously so I can hide the "User:" in my username there. I don't plan to edit this Wikipedia with the username I'm talking to you with now, as it was only made to conceal my IP address; I'm more desparately needed to help out there. So, if you could help, that would be great! Also, I tried creating Template:Tracking category and Template:Interwiki there also, as I thought it was the case. Perhaps it isn't and was a mistake of mine to make them (I'm still an amateur at this template stuff ;[) So, whenever possible, may you please respond to my account there only or just fix those templates and let me know? Better yet, we could sure use other templates made there, but you don't have to do all of 'em (hint: I'm the "burdock man" who created the pages) Thanks! I'm anonymous

Hello. Did you see this above message? We're desparately in need of administrators at the DragonBall Wikia. Also, those templates that were created are in dire need of being fixed. Is there anything you can do to assist us? I'm anonymous

WP:RFCU and clerks

Greetings! A recent change has been made in the clerking system at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser. There are no longer any obstacles to editors who wish to help out in this areas, as the standby list has now been deprecated. You were listed as a volunteer on the standby list before it was deprecated. If you are still interested in helping out in this area, please:

  • Consider adding yourself to the list of active clerks at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Clerks.
  • In helping, please make sure you follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Procedures as it is very important to the process there to follow these instructions for smooth operation.
  • Please remember "Trust between the clerks and the checkusers is essential. Clerks who persistently make problematic comments on requests or otherwise violate decorum may be asked by the checkusers to cease contributing here."
  • Add Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Clerks/Noticeboard to your watchlist to stay up to do date on the latest communications happening regarding this role.
  • "Be aware that this position is rather dull and carries no particular prestige; status-seeking will not be looked upon kindly."

I am not involved with the checkuser system. I am acting only to inform you of this change. Thank you. --Durin 14:33, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Please do not simply reverse the decision of an AfD, as you did in this case, without discussing what you intend to do on the article talk page.

Also, please note that your edit summary, No consensus was reached about this, is incorrect. An administrator judged that consensus had been reached. You, like other editors, are not empowered to simply conclude that this administrator misread the situation and made a mistake (that is, to decide, on your own, that consensus did not exist, when the administrator concluded that it did).

If you believe the decision by the administrator was a mistake, you should use the Wikipedia:Deletion review process to request that the administrator's decision be reversed. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 17:28, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: "You lost your chance."

What did you expect me to do? How long do I have to leave up a merger proposal before I have "clear concensus?" In the merge discussion, I had two people leave comments stating that it was their opinion to merge the pages. Sure, they were both IP users and there were only two, but there was no one who appeared during the discussion who was against it. Your comment makes it seem as if no discussion can reach a concensus without you there to offer your opinion. That doesn't seem right... I cannot find anything in the rules that say I need any number of votes for a merger, or that an Admin has to take part in the discussion. It doesn't even list a time limit. I thought that with a month having gone by, enough time would have passed to reach a concensus. You were just late, it seems. I suppose you could propose an un-merger, or something like that, but I would vote against it. -Platypus Man | Talk 14:26, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Of course, I forgot. IPs aren't real people. They aren't allowed to have opinions on what happens on Wikipedia. That's why you have to log in and have a username to edit Wikipedia. I should have waited for a real person to show up. Oh, wait! They are real people. The reason I merged is that I felt there was a concensus, regardless of the people who provided the concensus. I didn't even have to do a discussion, I just wanted to to see if others agreed with me. It seems to me that they did. If you really think that reopening the discussion will reverse the decision, then reopen it. I feel that it will stay the same and it will just be a waste of everyone's time and effort. -Platypus Man | Talk 01:42, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
I've undone and reopened the merge. I plan on waiting about another month before taking action again, so go voice your opinion. -Platypus Man | Talk 03:56, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, you asked about the search links MediaWiki page on IRC but left before an answer. The page is MediaWiki:Common.js, I think. --KFP (talk | contribs) 22:51, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

About MediaWiki:Common.js

Sorry for my english is poor.

I am the french editor of the http://www.wikipediaondvd.com, and also of http://www.wikipediasearch.net.

And I want to show you the difference beetwen our engine and the engine of wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=nasa&fulltext=Search http://www.wikipediasearch.net/index.php?action=nasa&lang=en

You can see the related vocabulary that is helping the internaute to find what is want like this : http://www.wikipediasearch.net/index.php?lang=en&action=nasa%20astronaut

So really, i think that it is for that we have a better search.

We improve our engine every day at the end of the week we have got a very nice version to propose.

Hi, I noticed you just closed the AfD Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/U-Fig, and I have one comment: I also nominated five other articles, Soldier Side (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)She's like Heroin (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)Holy Mountains (song) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)Tentative (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)Stealing Society (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), but I guess you did not see them; it's probably my fault, because I was probably supposed to put them at the top of the page, but this was my first time nominating multiple articles, so I do apologize :) Thank you for your time!SuperDT 01:52, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
