Outline of Quebec

Thank you for the work you did on the military section. Nice job.

I was wondering if you would be interested in helping to finish up and refine the outline.

The things left to do include:

  1. Filling in the blanks – some items have blanks that need to be filled, like with the President's name, etc.
  2. Bluelink the redlinks – for many of the redlinked topics, coverage exists somewhere in sections of articles. Section redirects or section links with pipes can be used to complete the links.
  3. Harvest relevant links (especially lists) from the encyclopedia – this can be done by
    • Searching ("intitle:" comes in handy for this)
    • Browsing articles, lists, categories, etc.
  4. Fix the error in the reference section.
  5. Flesh out the blatantly incomplete sections, such as the History section.

Any help you could provide would be most appreciated. The Transhumanist 22:20, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply! I look forward to seeing your creativity upon the page. Yes, please, definitely keep in touch. Sincerely, The Transhumanist 04:56, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you are a participant of the WikiProject Quebec.

The Outline of Quebec was created a few days ago and is under vigorous development. It fills a gap in Wikipedia's set of outlines. It is the 3rd outline to date about a Canadian province/territory.

Outlines form one of the subsystems of Wikipedia's contents navigation system. For more information on outlines, see Wikipedia:Outlines and Wikipedia:WikiProject Outlines.

The goals for the Outline of Quebec is to complete it to as high a standard of quality as possible, and to make it even better than the Outline of Saskatchewan and the Outline of British Columbia.

Once the Outline of Quebec is completed, it will provide an important example to others creating outlines for the remaining provinces and territories of Canada.

Please take a look at the outline to see if you can notice (and fill in) any missing topics. Pictures would also be nice (the rarer and the more interesting, the better).

Thank you.

Sincerely, The Transhumanist 10:38, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: Offiikart, above is the request I sent to everybody in the Quebec WikiProject. I thought you might like to read it. I hope they will join in and help.

Welcome to the Outlines WikiProject!

Offiikart, I'm glad you've joined up.

The project's goal is to build an outline for every major subject, while maintaining and improving those that already exist. This is a big undertaking.

But the benefits will be worth it. The outline system has the potential to become the best knowledge navigation tool in the world. Searches can take you only so far. A comprehensive map or table of contents of knowledge (which is what the outline system is when you hook all the outlines together) shows that which searches miss.

It's a wide-open territory, man. Since it is still in its infancy, we have the privilege of defining this thing. The core that we are developing will become the model that future participants shall base their work on.

So let's improve it so that it is ready when it achieves critical mass!

I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely, The Transhumanist 09:21, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: Now that you are a member, I've included on our notification list, and have posted your first notification below...

P.S.: remember to add Wikipedia:WikiProject Outlines/Article alerts to your watchlist.

Long time no see. I am very glad to see you are still active on Wikipedia.

I was wondering if I could talk you into adopting Outline of Quebec as your maintenance and development project. Wikipedia's coverage of Quebec changes and grows, and the outline needs to be updated over time to keep up with it. Also, the outline is a work-in-progress (incomplete), and there is much room for improvement (such as adding missing links, pictures, etc.) For picture support, compare with Outline of Iceland, Outline of France, and Outline of Japan. Will you add Outline of Quebec to your watchlist and drop in on it from time to time to refine and maintain it? I believe you are the perfect person to care for Quebec's outline. I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist 18:41, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Trans, I would really love to answer yes to your question but im extremely busy in real life for now so I'm not really active on wiki. But, be sure that the two pages I check when logging in, even if its not often, are Quebec and the Outline of Quebec :) (and both are already on my WL). I'll take some time here and there to keep things right and up-to-date but I wont be a leader in this project as much as I was last summer. Thanks for thinking of me for this job! ^^
Well, that makes you the de facto main caretaker (I'm spread even thinner than you - across 534 outlines). Whatever effort you can muster is fine by me. By the way, there's a specific question I'd like to ask you... The religion portion of Outline of Quebec#Culture of Quebec is mostly redlinks. Where is the relevant information to which we can provide piped links to? The corresponding Canada-level articles? Please take a look. Thank you. And as always, I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist 20:02, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I'll do my best. About the religious question, no, it is not a good idea to use the Canadian content to represent Quebec because it doesn't. Quebec is special on that question mostly because of two things :
  • Quebec is a catholic province as opposed to the other provinces which are mostly protestant.
  • Due to a lot of abuses, the Church in Quebec was pushed out of public institutions during the Quiet Revolution (60s'), was marginalised and criticized. A lot of people are still practicant but it is rare to make it public. This also explains the lack of information about this topic in wiki and my personnal lack of motivation to add it to Quebec-related topics.

ps. I saw the newest proposal for deletion of outlines and I went trough it. As always, I like pretty much the professionalism you show and the patience you have. Your writing skills are much appreciated to defend that important cause. I gave my vote (opposed) and refered to your comments as an explanation, is that ok for you? --OffiikartTalk 20:34, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't aware of that about Quebec. Interesting. Mostly, I was thinking about links like these:
Each of the x in Canada religion articles mention Quebec and usually give the population figures and where the main concentration of the religion's people in Quebec are. Judaism in Canada redirects to History of the Jews in Canada, which mentions Quebec, Quebec City, and Montreal several times. And Roman Catholicism in Canada mentions Quebec quite a bit.
Please select whichever of the links above you think have relevant-enough information, and add them to the outline (as you have time). Leave out whichever ones you feel are not helpful.
Thank you for your kind words concerning outlines. It's nice to know someone appreciates my efforts.
I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist 21:15, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I blued the global title "religion in quebec" using the "religion in canada" link which is interesting for all the stats, facts and comparisons between religions, etc. I deleted the other links which would all have led to the same canadian link on which one can compare the presence of all religions in quebec. Also, considering that religions in general and especially those that were listed do not cover "Quebec" specificity in a relevant way, I think it would be better to let this section like this. If I find articles (or parts) about Catholicism in Quebec (or articles on less relevant religions but really speaking about them within Quebec), I'll add them.
edit, also added your "irreligion in qc" link (interesting) OffiikartTalk 21:20, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Nice. I've moved that branch of links to its own section, and have added some links. The Transhumanist 21:42, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I did not understand your comment about:
These links are all different pages, so I'm not sure what you meant. I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist 21:47, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My bad, I guess I went quickly on these pages and didn't look carefully. I like the way you placed religion-related topics in the outline. The other religions had their place there so I added all the links. OffiikartTalk 23:38, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What about Roman Catholicism in Quebec? Does that get specific enough? (By the way, I adjusted the tree just a little). The Transhumanist 01:00, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mystery

Please solve this mystery if you can...

On September 23rd, traffic to Portal:James Bond doubled, and has stayed at the new level since then. I can't figure out what happened.

See http://stats.grok.se/en/201109/Portal%3AJames_Bond

Traffic to Outline of James Bond stayed the same (though it was at the higher-level already), which leads me to suspect changes made somewhere in Wikipedia.

See http://stats.grok.se/en/201109/Outline%20of%20James_Bond

I'd like to find out what happened, in case it reveals helpful link placement tips that can double the traffic to outlines too!

I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist 22:39, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can't determine the actual cause for that augmentation of traffic, the portal page itself wasn't modified in the last year and excepted for the upcoming 23rd movie, I see no news in James Bond's world that correlates with this affluence. The traffic has also augmented a bit on the James Bond article but not significantly compared to the augmentation seen on the portal. However, the augmention on the portal is not that significant because even if it doubled, it only passed from ~40 to ~80 views which is not a lot and could possibly be due to a couple of people only who decided to re-start writing. Sorry for the lack of help =) Have a good wikitime! OffiikartTalk 23:57, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But it is a significant proportion of increase. It doubled, while James Bond and Outline of James Bond stayed the same. And it stayed doubled. Even if the doubling was from a single change that increased it a mere 40 page views per day, it would be worthwhile to know what type of link placement tactic that was, because you might be able to multiply it. With multiple placement for a single page, 100 placements = 4,000 more page views per day. Or if the tactic can be applied to all outlines, at just one link per each, that's 533 x 40 page views per day = 21,320 more page views per day. I want that traffic!   :)   The Transhumanist 00:11, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder, did anyone add new links leading to the portal? Is there an easy way to check this? The Transhumanist 00:11, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please help fill in annotations at Portal:Contents/Outlines

Please go to Portal:Contents/Outlines' and fill in as many missing annotations as you can, even if it's only one or two. Every little bit helps!

The annotating of the entries on Portal:Contents/Outlines is nearing completion.

Annotated entries look like this:

  • Basketball – team sport in which two teams of five players try to score points by throwing or "shooting" a ball through the top of a basketball hoop while following a set of rules.
  • Canoeing and kayaking – two closely related forms of watercraft paddling, involving manually propelling and navigating specialized boats called canoes and kayaks using a blade that is joined to a shaft, known as a paddle, in the water.
  • Cricket – bat-and-ball team sport, the most popular form played on an oval-shaped outdoor arena known as a cricket field at the centre of which is a rectangular 22-yard (20.12 m) long pitch that is the focus of the game.
  • Martial arts – extensive systems of codified practices and traditions of combat, practiced for a variety of reasons, including self-defense, competition, physical health and fitness, as well as mental and spiritual development.

Entries needing annotations look like this:

The links to the country outlines don't need annotations (they are listed by region).

Even if all you can do is one or two, the support will be greatly felt. Many hands make light work.

Thank you. The Transhumanist 00:32, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try to help with that too. Cya! OffiikartTalk 14:22, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of mountain ranges of Quebec has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unneeded overlap with Category:Mountain ranges of Quebec, which includes 10 ranges whereas this list has but 5 as of the time this notice was added.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Hunting for embedded outlines

I'm looking for outlines embedded in articles.

I've run across a number of these over the years. One example is the Outline of fencing, which used to be part of the fencing article.

If you know about or spot any structured general topics lists in articles, please let me know (on my talk page).

Another thing you might find are articles that are comprised mostly of lists (without "Outline of" or "List of" being in the article's title). If you come across any of these, please report them to me on my talk page. I'd sure like to take a look at them.

Happy hunting.

I look forward to "hearing" from you (on my talk page). Sincerely, The Transhumanist 07:48, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. New deal for page patrollers

Hi Offiikart,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada

If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile!
