Metro Light Rail

Hi - thanks for doing that to the MLR page. The duplication wasn't done by me - I did all the research and put it into the MLR page where it was originally. It was someone else who copied it into the Metropolitan Goods Line page. Despite your work, though, I think you've taken a bit too much out of the article. The MLR article now only covers construction of the line to Darling Harbour. The freight lines from Darling Harbour to Sefton were built a long time after the Darling Harbour line was built, and that needs to be mentioned. It need only be a few sentences outlining this as well as the opening of the Darling Harbour line. I have a lot of newspaper articles on the proposals, building and opening of the light rail that I can add to the history section at some stage. Also, I'm tempted to get rid of some of the images and/or tables at the moment. There's too much clutter in the article. JRG 12:35, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to find articles about the conversion of the line from freight to line rail - which government ministers were behind it, which companies kick started it - but as you probably know there is limited info on the web for this. If you have articles that can contribute it would be great to add these. I was going to have a look in the state library at old SMH articles of the time.
If you can see parts of the info which I removed that are relevant to this article - remember it should be primarily focused on the light rail side of things, then add it back in. It would be good to take this to Good Article status, it shouldn't be too hard of a jump. Nomadtales 00:22, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've had access to Factiva for a while and was able to get hold of them then. I believe I've got about 20 different articles covering different proposals for the line's use going back to the mid-1980s. Among earlier considerations was to join it up as part of the CityRail network, or to turn the line into a busway! The existing proposal came about because of Olympics funding from the Federal Government to revitalise the Pyrmont area.
You might want to have a look at what I wrote on the Summer Hill article (in the transport section) and there's a couple of articles on the recent extension proposal to Dulwich Hill/Summer Hill which you might like to expand on. There's also this page on the upgrade of Jubilee Park station, though it may be more appropriate on the station page.
We also desparately need some photos. There was a dodgy fair use one from Star City station here before and it got deleted, and I've taken some station photos from the stations at the far end of the line, but we need some photos of rollingstock, maybe one of the goods line beyond Lilyfield to illustrate expansions, and maybe a ticket (for a future "fares" section or the like). I can't really help - I've taken what I can - but given that the LR is in the city it shouldn't be too hard to take some photos of stations and trams. JRG 03:38, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Duns Creek

Duns Creek is a suburb of the Port Stephens Council LGA and is officially recognised as a suburb according to the Geographical Names Board of New South Wales.[1] It used to be a collection of farms until some of them were subdivided into smaller residential blocks but it is most definitely not a town. To be honest, it really doesn't fall into the Wikipedia definition of a suburb either but it's more close to a suburb than it ever will be to a town. --AussieLegend 09:08, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Melanesia assessment

I noticed your posts on the Melanesia pages. I created an article, Copra dummies. How can I get it assessed in terms of Melanesian/PNG importance? I thought it would be good to get it assessed by someone else for quality and importance. Thanks, Lester 22:12, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Harold Holt at car boot.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Harold Holt at car boot.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:14, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Wreck of Anna Maria sm.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Walka

I've used photos of signs previously, at One Mile, New South Wales in support of confusion over the suburb's name, and at Tanilba Bay, New South Wales as support for information about Tanilba House. I have no doubt that others will have some issues about the lack of references for this article but I don't see anything controversial about what you've written that really requires citations and I can't see why the information sign isn't a valid reference. Sometimes you just can't find references and I think a photo that can be viewed immediately is far better verification than a book that can only be found in a library or obscure bookshop. --AussieLegend (talk) 11:01, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Royal Australian Navy Seahorse Standard.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Royal Australian Navy Seahorse Standard.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. TLSuda (talk) 18:29, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Districts and LLGs of Morobe Province requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
