1984's Geopolitics
Hi. I suggest some fixes for File:1984's Geopolitics.png: 1) Chukchi Peninsula in the upper left of the map should be red, while Malay Peninsula should be all yellow; 2) The Middle East from Egypt to Iran, apart from Turkey, should be all gray (Turkey can stay red because the northern Mediterranean coast is part of Eurasia, according to the book); 3) In my opinion the yellow part in Mongolia and Manchuria should be larger, while it should be smaller in Tibet, so that the gray area in Asia and Africa is all united (Eastasia includes "a large but fluctuating portion of Manchuria , Mongolia, and Tibet", according to the book). Tenebra Blu (talk) 14:43, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for pointing out the Chukchi peninsula, I totally forgot to color that in! As for Iran and the Northern Middle East, I was able to fill in the blanks in regards to descriptions by Orwell and, in the process, I have determined that the Soviet Union likely took control of the entirety of Iran following World War 2 and did a similar thing to the neighboring regions that they did to Europe. That being said, I believe that area should definitely be all Eurasian. And to address Mongolia and Manchuria, they would fall under disputed territory as they are described as such. I can see your argument for Tibet however, although I believe that such an East Asian state would core Tibet to have access to Bengali holdings (as described by Orwell). Thanks for raising these concerns and I will be making changes I see fit. Nikolai Gennadievich Nazarov (talk) 23:58, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
- I get your point about Iran and the neighboring regions, but I think that, as Orwell included Middle East in the disputed area without further specifications, in doubt it should be better in grey. As for Tibet, I mean that in my opinion the little piece of Eastasia bordering Eurasia should be grey, in order to leave no direct boundaries between the three superstates.
- Another possibile fix can be making New Guinea and Melanesia grey instead of black, since usually the term Australasia is used in reference to only Australia and New Zealand, while Melanesia, Micronesia and Polinesia are separate regions. For that reason, not knowing exactly what Orwell meant with Australasia and at the same time knowing that the Pacific islands are generally included in the disputed area, I'd leave in black only Australia and New Zealand. --Tenebra Blu (talk) 08:28, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
- In regards to Melanesia and Australasia, the book describes Oceania's holdings as being "the Pacific islands and the entirety of Australasia." This would imply that all land west of the Weber Line is under Oceanic control. Most of the Middle East remains disputed aside from the aforementioned regions. As for the bit that touches Eurasia, I'll see if I can create a realistic boundary. Nikolai Gennadievich Nazarov (talk) 15:15, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
- Not exactly, the book says "Oceania comprises the Americas, the Atlantic islands including the British Isles, Australasia, and the southern portion of Africa" and "the islands of the Indian Ocean and the Pacific are constantly being captured and recaptured by Oceania or by Eastasia". It seems to me Orwell meant that Australia and New Zealand, which were the British Dominions in the Pacific, are part of Oceania, whereas the other lands in the Pacific, that are Melanesia, Micronesia and Polinesia (Hawaii included), are disputed territories. --Tenebra Blu (talk) 15:49, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
- Most seem to interpret that the quote refers to Indonesia and the neighboring islands. For the same reason that I've readded the Malay Peninsula to Eastasia, I will keep West Papua and the majority of the Pacific islands east of Iwo Jima strictly under Oceania. Reichskommissariat Kaukasien
Hi, what is wrong with this map? How is it unsupported?

- It is dated and consists of unsourced information. I have replaced the map with a more accurate one until I create something to replace it. Thank you for ending your edit war. Nikolai Gennadievich Nazarov (talk) 02:39, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think the map should be overlaid above modern borders though. 2804:248:FB6B:AB00:F8D4:F2C0:E3D7:9832 (talk) 08:11, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
