page rejection advice

Hi there, I am a new author offering my first page see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Sheldonap I would be really grateful for some advice to get this page accepted. I have tried the teahouse and it seems I need inline citations but thought I had provided appropriate citations in the references. I would be really interested to know what you need from me so I can re-edit this page to your satisfaction. Kind regards, Anthony Sheldonap (talk) 11:27, 16 September 2014

Hello, Anthony! I'm happy to help. The references you provided originally are great, none extra needed. What are needed, however, are references to those same sources in the text, not to other Wikipedia articles. I've just now added links to some Wikipedia articles in text of your page, but these are not references. You've got the idea with the numbering sources to put them in the text, but I've found that there is a much simpler way to use inline citations: reference templates. You already put {{reflist}} under the "References" section on the page, so all you have to do now is put the citations in.
Say you wanted to cite The Selfish Gene to back up this statement: "According to Richard Dawkins in his book, The Selfish Gene, when that inter-generational transfer is accomplished by non-genetic means, the process is considered to be 'memetic'". To insert an inline citation of The Selfish Gene, you put the citation info between "<ref>" and "</ref>" right at the end of the statement. In this case, the code would look like this:
According to Richard Dawkins in his book, [[The Selfish Gene]], when that inter-generational transfer is accomplished by non-genetic means,
the process is considered to be "memetic".<ref>Dawkins, R. “[[The Selfish Gene]]”. (1976) Oxford; University Press. (ISBN-0586083162)</ref>
When you save it, this will cause a little number to show up at the end of the statement, and all the citation info will show up under the "References" section. Try this out and see what happens! For the places inline citations are required or just recommended, see WP:CITE. Any questions will be received with enthusiasm :) ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 02:00, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello. Your message [1]came as a pleasant surprise !!! And, I was prompted to become much more active as an editor again. Thanks. --Bhadani (talk) 14:17, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

Thank You-!

Anastasia,

Thank you for your kind words of welcome!

I'm a big fan of Wikipedia and am trying to write an article (bio) for a published author.

I'm stuck in trying to figure out how to ask questions and where to go to find answers.

Any guidance would be appreciated!

Many thanks!

Hello Webspelunker! I just want to remind you to always log in before you do anything on Wikipedia. If you own the computer you edit from, you might just want to keep yourself logged in on that computer.
You can ask any questions you want here, I'm happy to help :) Where is the article you're working on? ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 00:33, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Anastasia,

Thanks for your advice!

My page is in my sandbox and I want to move it to where another can comment.

Which tutorial is best for this?

Many thanks again!

@Webspelunker: Maybe you should think about submitting your article to Wikipedia:Articles for Creation, where another experienced editor will review it to see if it's good enough quality to be accepted. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 01:02, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Good Shepherd Primary School, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

of a lack of notability. A quick search in Google revealed no secondary sources. None were provided by the author either.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Greetings Anastasia, I'm a Christian as well!

I have two quick questions: I accidentally made 2 tea-house accounts, how can I delete the earlier one? And I thought that anyone who registered to Wikipedia is a member, not a guest, what do you mean by guest? Thank you for your time, this is one of my favourite Bible verses, By the way, Phillipians 4:7-8 "And the peace of God, which transcends human comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds through Christ Jesus." (How about you?) Thanks in advance for everything! :) JBeags (talk) 02:58, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Hey JBeags! Don't worry about the Teahouse profiles, I removed the first one for you. As an answer to your second question, yes; everyone who contributes to Wikipedia is a member and an editor. What we mean by "guest" at the Teahouse is a less experienced editor who could use the help of others to learn how to do stuff here. That's all ;)
Always good to meet another sibling in Christ! One of my favourite verses is Luke 10:27-- So he answered and said, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’” This verse pretty much sums up the whole Bible :) ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 03:46, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
I was really happy to see that you are a Christian I always assume almost everyone I don't know is an atheist the way things seem to be going nowadays, I was especially happy when I read your quotes and when you responded, I can tell your an actual Christian, not one of those fake cultural: Christians. :D JBeags (talk) 04:48, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
@JBeags: Thanks! It's very encouraging to me that you are Christian are committed to serving the Lord as well :) Have you figured out what kind of thins you like to contribute to on Wikipedia yet? ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 18:19, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
@Missionedit: It seems a little odd that were having a conversation on a Wikipedia page, I never even knew there was more to Wikipedia than just info :) I'll write about anything relating to science, (particular on life and some physics) psychology, history, medieval fantasy (Particular Tolkien's work) and Christian theology. (I am an amateur on these topics though, I am in an Engineering Design course, but I don't really want to spend more time on that than I have to). I have amassed an incredible amount of knowledge on many subjects over the years, sometimes people call me the human encyclopedia. So I don't know why I didn't become a Wikipedia member earlier! :) In my free time I'm a writer, inventor and somewhat of an artist, I also play iPod and occasionally computer games and hang out with my friends and family :D. JBeags (talk) 04:27, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
I'm so glad you've joined Wikipedia! It seems you're picking up stuff pretty quickly :) Just so you know, you don't have to {{ping}} someone on their own talkpage, because they are are automatically notified of your response anyway. All the {{ping}} template does is notify the user you put inside the brackets (for instance, if you were pinging me, it would look like {{ping|Missionedit}} ) that you responded to their post. This is an alternative to using talkback templates.
If you would like to learn how to better edit Wikipedia, maybe you should check out the Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user program. It's a project where an editor new to Wikipedia can be "adopted", or mentored, by an experienced Wikipedia editor. I'm an adopter in the program, so if you'd like, I could adopt you. Keep in mind, though, that it does take a few months to "graduate". My adoption HQ are at User:Missionedit/Adoption if you want to take a look. Looking forward to your response! ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 13:46, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
That would be great, but as I mentioned earlier I am currently in an Engineering Design program for Post-Secondary, and although I do have some spare time, I don't need any more distractions, (I already have a hard enough time making my education my first priority, lol) Maybe for now I could just go on whenever I want / have time, and if I have questions, I'll ask you? :) I'd love to be “adopted” by you some time though, maybe in several months when I'm done College. Does that sound good? ;) JBeags (talk) 14:29, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
@JBeags: OK, great! Just let me know if you have any questions :) ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 14:36, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Okay, sounds great, it's been nice chatting with you. :D JBeags (talk) 14:46, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for talking to me at the teahouse I am looking forward to talking to you in the future! Plumerm...

You're welcome :) Just so you know, when you post anything on a talk page you should always "sign" it with 4 tildes (~~~~). This will leave your username and the date. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 22:59, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Request on 22:33:16, 11 October 2014 for assistance on AfC submission by OliverHeaviside

I want to improve a draft article I submitted. (Draft:Holly_Payne) You've requested more sources that are independent of the subject, and I certainly agree with that principle. Only 6 of the 18 references are to sites controlled by the subject. Are there guidelines about what an acceptable limit is? Biographical details, especially, tend to be based on what the subject says.

In the meantime, I'm going to look for more sources. Thanks for your help!

OliverHeaviside (talk) 22:33, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello, OliverHeaviside! I'm glad that you're interested in improving your submission. You are correct in assuming that biographical details and such do not have to be referenced in secondary/independent sources. However, for general references, your article needs reliable, independent sources to "prove" that the subject is notable. What I mean by independent is not just sources controlled by the subject, but sources that are in any way linked to the subject, promotionally or otherwise. I'll use your cited sources as an example:
  • The hollylynnpayne.com and kingdomofsimplicity.com are both websites run by the subject, and therefore obviously can't be used for notability. Anyone can create a website and say that they wrote a famous book without it being true.
  • Wikipedia articles cannot be used as references for other Wikipedia articles. You should remove such references if you want your article to be accepted.
  • The goodreads.com is community run, and thus is unreliable. Barnes and Noble sells Payne's books and thus is not independent. Neither of these sources help establish notability.
The IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award, sfgate.com, and tangodiva.com sources are great for notability-- especially since the sfgate.com one is mainstream media. One or two more sources like these should have you good to go on the referencing end of things. Does that answer your question? ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 02:54, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

15:37:21, 29 October 2014 review of submission by 75.25.121.188

So I submitted this before and it was rejected, but someone else made the page and it barely had any info on it. What should I do... copy and paste onto the other one? My info can't be used because now there is obv. another page on it. help?

75.25.121.188 (talk) 15:37, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Whoops, my bad. I should have checked to see if there was already an article on Tuan before reviewing. Yes, you should integrate/copy-paste all applicable content into the original Mark Tuan article, and remove this text from your article (to take it out of the reviewing queue):
{{AFC submission|||ts=20141010022247|u=75.25.121.188|ns=118}}
Be warned that if the stuff you put into the other article does not have reliable, independent sources supporting it, it may be removed. Good luck, and happy editing! ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 16:17, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
I still don't understand, I find my sources to be precisely what you've been asking for, I don't understand what sources you are having trouble with...
75.25.121.188 (talk) 05:52, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
The sources that you are using right now are connected to/promote the subject (got7.jype.com and music.naver.com), and a blog (seoulrhythm.com). The allkpop.com source is ok, but not enough to prove Tuan is notable. This doesn't mean that you can't use any of these sources on the Wikipedia, but other more mainstream/independent sources are also needed to prove notability. Does this answer your question? ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 17:28, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Adoption

Yes, please, adopt me. I've done a little, but need more experience and education. I updated some info on the Ebola page , but managed to screw up the citations. That might be a place to start -- learning how to cite correctly and looking for better citations for pages that need it. I enjoy digging up original sources and want to learn more about WP policies on citation (primary vs secondary sources, etc). Let's go.juanTamad 02:02, 2 November 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jtamad (talk • contribs)

Request for adoption

Hi, Missionedit. You provided me my Tea House welcome badge around 10 months earlier, which I'm confident you remember ;) My previous adopter, Mr.X became unavailable and I fell out of activity at that time. He remains unavailable to this date. I would like to revisit the fundamentals and see my first creation through this time (listed in my WIP section). I noticed you are open to adoption. Please consider me. Thanks! scribble · ink chat\contrib 06:28, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

This where I'll post lessons and you can ask questions :) I'd advise you to put this on your watchlist so you know when someone edits it. I have a few questions waiting for you there to get started. Does the category I created Category:People_from_the_Inuvik_Region make sense to you? Venustar84 (talk) 18:22, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

@Venustar84: I added your category to Category:Inuvik Region. It looks fine to me, but you apparently were banned from creating categories, so whether or not it is a good category, you should not have created it in the first place. For right now, you need to find something else to work on in Wikipedia. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 21:07, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Anastasia?

You're real name's Anastasia? That's funny because recently I've massive improved and nominated the article Anastasia for GA-status. Maybe you wanna' review it? Sincerely, Jonas Vinther (speak to me!) 14:59, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

@Jonas Vinther: I'm flattered! However, I really don't any experience reviewing GA nominees, so I think I'll pass. Sorry. What a coincidence that you come upon someone named Anastasia as you are nominating the article :) ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 19:45, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello Missionedit. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Mandali Mendrilla

Hi, my article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Madhu_Gopal/sandbox was not allowed, because he said Mandali Mendrilla was not notable, and I had not enough references. Off course Mandali Mendrilla is notable, she won tons of prices fro her Fashion designs, in Italy and Croatia, and I had many references. Can you please help me to get the article submitted, improve the article, or whatever needs to be done. Thanks Madhu Gopal (talk) 12:51, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

@Madhu Gopal: Hi Madhu Gopal! I read the reason why User:The Herald declined your article, and it seems that the problem is not there aren't enough sources, but that the sources you listed are not all considered reliable. Also, some of the sources you put in the article did not come after information which it supports. This means that the source do not actually say what you claim it says. For instance, for the sentence "In the USA, Mandali collaborated with late husband and artist Elisha 'Nitai' Drury in Black Rock City, Burning Man." you cited the http://burncast.blogspot.nl/2012/12/rip-nitai-das-found-of-krishna-camp-at.html source. However, this source does not say anything Mendrilla working with Drury, or even them being married. Did I explain this clearly enough? Thanks! ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 16:33, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
@Missionedit:Hi Missionedit, thanks for helping me. Yes it becomes clearer, yet in this example the article carries a picture where it says: http://burncast.blogspot.nl/2012/12/rip-nitai-das-found-of-krishna-camp-at.html : "Nitai's wife Mandali carries his photo"

However, it does not specifically say she worked with him, but that seems self-evident from the caption of the picture. It seems to me like splitting hairs... Do you have any more examples/feedback. I really need your help with this as I am still confused how to improve it. Madhu Gopal (talk) 11:58, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

@Missionedit:In the mean time I did update it. What do you think? Any suggestions? It seems it is still a little shaky... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Mandali_Mendrilla#Career Madhu Gopal (talk) 13:29, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
@Madhu Gopal: One thing you should do is call Mendrilla by her last name instead of her first name. This is more professional-sounding and less promotional. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 18:35, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
@Missionedit:Okay that was a good tip. and I changed it. Anything else I need to do to make it eligible for another submission, or is it good to go? Madhu Gopal (talk) 14:02, 21 November 2014 (UTC)
@Madhu Gopal: Sorry, to clarify, I meant that you can just call her by her last name, Mendrilla, and you don't have to use her full name (Mandali Mendrilla) throughout the article. I fixed it so you can see what I mean :) The writing style in the article could still use a little work, with some parts sounding a quite informal and there are a few grammar issues. Just so you know, you don't need to ping someone on their own talkpage, since they are automatically notified :) ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 14:54, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello, Cyrus! I am not very experienced in mathematics or physics, so would suggest you ask someone like User:Andrewa or User:Vaughan Pratt who knows more about these things. Thanks! ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 17:05, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

thank you. i am just new here and frankly i have found it tougher than einstein's equations! anyway, i am learning how to communicate here with various people. thank you again. 17:10, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

the tough part of it is 'how to talk back'. so i hope the editors you mentioned could contact me first and then i can talk back ... thank you 17:12, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

"equations & corrections"

i did contact this teahouse before and frankly, they are just a bunch of amateurs -- with the exception of you, of course -- and i did even post my question a couple of times. i believe the best way for me is to communicate directly with another wikipedia id. i wonder if you have any reliable id with whom i could contact. what about the administrator? thank you again. ("Cyrusrobati" 16:49, 27 November 2014 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyrusrobati (talk • contribs)

@Cyrusrobati: Many of the editors who answer questions at the Teahouse are administrators, and all of them are experienced editors. I would suggest you at least try asking your question there, at Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions. Make sure to save the page when you're done so the question doesn't get lost. I think this must be what happened last time, because I can't seem to find any record of you asking a question there. You can also try the Wikipedia:Help desk, which has been around a lot longer than the Teahouse. If you're looking for an admin to ask, I guess you can try User:Ancheta Wis.
Also, when you reply to me, you don't have to create a new heading unless you're talking about something else. Just scroll to the heading which already exists (in this case, "equations & corrections"), and click the little edit button next to it. This will ensure that you only edit that section. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 00:15, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

i see ... yes, thank you for informing me about this. yes, i will do accordingly. ("Cyrusrobati" 03:40, 28 November 2014 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyrusrobati (talk • contribs)

yes. thank you for teaching me. ("Cyrusrobati" 03:41, 28 November 2014 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyrusrobati (talk • contribs)

@Cyrusrobati: OK, sorry, to clarify: To ask a question at Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions, first go to the page. Then click the blue "Ask a question" button. Write your question in the box that pops up, and sign it with 4 tides (~~~~) at the end. Without the tides, it will not work. When you're done that, click the "Ask my question" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the box. This will save your question. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 16:02, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

I posted my question: 'i do have new equations in mathematics as well as some 'corrections' to be made in wikipedia pages with regard to mathematics and physics. how can i do it?("Cyrusrobati" 17:09, 1 December 2014 (UTC))'

but it did not work because "Ask my question" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the box is 'blocked' -- 'i cannot click on it'. why don't you please at least ask one of these members at the tea house about my question? thank you again.("Cyrusrobati" 17:09, 1 December 2014 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyrusrobati (talk • contribs)

Would my philosophical finding that ' faculty of reason' indeed is an internal sense organ deserves a Wiki page ?

Hi Thanks for attending to my talk initiative and profile !

My created profile itself was my message for you, seeking kind answer..Will you help me with a practical answer? It is about my original philosophical finding that Human faculty of Reason, indeed work like an internal sense organ, exactly the way our external sense organs like eye and ears work. faculty of reason too help us to sense another existential category, logical order/consistency pr unity, like the categories of sight and sound that eye and ear provide.

My Google blog link: http://philosopherskorner.blogspot.in/ explains my finding in detail. Regarding wiki's NOTABILITY criterion, this paper is has already been peer-reviewed by an on line Journal " advances in psychology', and it will appear this month on-line, alive. I know, my self-published book on the subject at Amazon.com may not come under the NOTABILITY criteria ( Book name ' is reason a sense organ? A super-mind above the known mind?, Google searchable by title )

This finding, no doubt, will add much value to the philosophy of mind field, as there was no notable innovation here for many centuries ! But, for the world to notice my finding and to be of use to the world, it needs some reliable exposure, like an entry in Wikipedia for a start !

Do you think, my above finding deserve a page in Wiki ?

Kindly give me a practical answer..

Warm regards,

Abraham J. Palakudy ajoseph1@rediffmail.com

Hello, Abraham! I've taken a look at your your findings, and they seem interesting. However, you must consider that Wikipedia is not a place to publish original research so that it gains recognition. Rather, it is an encyclopedia which covers topics that are already well-known and verifiable. Some pages to read which explain this are Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:No original research. I'm glad you've taken notability into question; if you can find a substantial amount of reliable sources which talk about your findings (that you have not written/published yourself), it may meet the notability guideline for an article. Please remember to log in to Wikipedia before editing, this prevents confusion. Just so you know, when you post anything on a talk page, you should type 4 tildes (~~~~) at the end. This will produce your username and the date. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 16:46, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

New Article Submitted for Review : Need your inputs

Hi. I am recently submitted Draft:Ed DeCosta for review. I sought advise from the hosts on Wikipedia:Teahouse/Guests/Left column and was given some very helpful advise. I continually improved the articles content in respect to NPOV and proper source referencing. I was hoping to request for your feedback on how else I can improve the article to pass the wiki standards for approval. Thank you in advance.Pmanz2014 (talk) 01:42, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

thank you. it is very beautiful wish. by the way, i have set up a 'serious'physics group on facebook. it is professional and many from various backgrounds and countries have joined too though mostly are ladies. here some of my old and new theories -- in mathematics and physics -- are being posted too. i wonder if you or your colleagues or friends -- those with bsc, msc or phd -- can join this physics group called 'the extended relativity theory': a title after my 30-year-old papers on quantum mechanics and relativity. so i wonder if you could gather some 'bees' -- as i usually use this term for crowds -- and just ask them if they could send requests to https://www.facebook.com/cyrus.gabrielrobati and then i will add them to the group. thank you so much.("Cyrusrobati" 12:22, 15 December 2014 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyrusrobati (talk • contribs)

I'm not Christian. I'm not offended by your message wishing me a Merry Christmas, but I do think it would be better in future if you only sent Merry Christmas messages to people you know are Christian. Otherwise it would be better to send Happy Holidays messages, to be more inclusive. Thank you. Maranjosie (talk) 02:07, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

Hey Anastasia. I wanted to ask if you might be interested in mentoring one or more editors during our pilot of the mentorship space called the Co-op. We plan to run the pilot in late January for about one month. The idea is that mentors will be doing one-on-one teaching based on how an editor wants to contribute, and it's not some huge commitment to teach comprehensively about Wikipedia. We also want to make to easier for new editors to find mentors as well. Your experience in adopting editors already, and hosting at the Teahouse will definitely be valuable to new editors. If you're interested, please sign up here and feel free to peruse, make suggestions, or ask questions about how the Co-op will work. Thanks a bunch (and Happy New Year!), I, JethroBT drop me a line 03:40, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi, Bhootrina! Sure, I can help you create a guestbook! First, go to User:Bhootrina/guestbook. It will say "Creating User:Bhootrina/guestbook" at the top. Type whatever you want your guestbook to say in the box below that, and then push the "Show preview" button at the bottom before saving to make sure it looks like what you intended. Ta-da! @Acj1: Hello, Acj1! Though I do have a rather tight schedule right now, I'd be glad to adopt you! Your new adoption classroom is at User:Missionedit/Adoption/Acj1. @Acj1: The idea is that I give lessons as often as you can finish them. But since I'm pretty busy right now, that may not happen like it's supposed to :) Sorry for not explaining better. What I meant was that you can add this text: {{Adoptee|Missionedit}} to your user page. This will make a userbox appear which says you've been adopted by me. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 01:30, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks!!! I get it now! Acj1|Sign?|Say Hi To Me! 02:33, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi Anastasia. I'm sorry to interrupt your mentorship-in-progress, but Acj1 has a recent, prior editing history that required a block because the original block was never addressed. I'm real sorry to have to do this, particularly because I think mentorship can do a lot of good generally, but the behavior was disruptive and problematic enough that it needs to be dealt with first. I, JethroBT drop me a line 15:12, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
I completely understand, I JethroBT. My mentorship with Acj1 will be on hold until further notice. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 02:07, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

adding a new page

refering to a citation twice

I have been away for a while. I cannot remember how to cite the same reference twice. Thanks for your help! Reefswaggie (talk) 00:43, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

@Reefswaggie: You remember how to cite a normal reference by placing the citation between <ref> and </ref>. Well, to cite that same reference again in another place on the page, use <ref name="nickname of the source"> instead of that opening <ref> tag. The nickname can be anything you want. The next time you want to use that same source, instead of using the whole citation, only use <ref name="nickname of the source">. This will help condense your reference list. Did I explain that well enough? ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 19:23, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
@Missionedit and Anastasia: Yes very well explained. And it works a treat! Thanks and have a lovely sunny day :) Reefswaggie (talk) 20:44, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

My article was declined

Hi Missionedit,

I have submitted a biography for an American ophthalmologist several times and it continues to get declined (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Lawrence_F._Jindra). The last version was marked for speedy deletion by hellinabucket because he thought it was "promotional". I fixed it and it was deleted again. When I requested it back so that I could continue working on it, I didn't get it back. So, I re-wrote it, modeling it after a published biography of an ophthalmologist (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Constable), and hellinabucket declined it again. I am at a loss for how to improve this biography and don't see how it is any different from other biographies of living people that have been accepted by wikipedia. Can you help me? Thank you, Kim Kimvale1025 (talk) 19:58, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

@Kimvale1025: Hello, Kim! I'm glad to be of service. I'd like to thank you for being so courteous about this matter :) I see why your article was deleted/declined, but I'm glad you're not giving up in trying to improve it. These are the two main problems:
1.Sources. Many of the sources you have provided have been written by Jindra. This is fine, but more sources written by other people in the mainstream news are required to "establish", or prove, his notability. The amount of such sources that you have provided may not be sufficient to pass review. The reason why these sources are required is because the Wikipedia community just wants to make sure that only people who are already notable get a page on Wikipedia. The Golden Rule pretty much sums this up.
2.Writing style and organization. Whether you can tell or not, the style of your writing is more promotional than it should be. I guess the article reads much like a resume. Much of the information that you include isn't necessary to the article, such as the Personal interests section. There also seems to be too many sections in general. Perhaps you can condense some of them. With this article, more is less, at least concerning information.
I don't know if this was much help to you, but I hope that maybe I gave you a starting point. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 02:55, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Adjusting pilot start date - WP:Co-op

Hello Missionedit,

I'll be putting out a formal update sometime soon, but I wanted to inform you that I've decided to push our start date back to mid-February rather than in January. There are number of reasons for this, but the biggest factor is that we are now facing the hard work of implementing our designs on the Mediawiki interface. It's a limiting environment to work with from a web-building perspective, and the team that worked on the Teahouse can offer similar testimonials to these challenges. We also want to make sure there is time for us and for you to test the environment out, ask questions at our project's talk page, and give us a little time to make any last changes before we start inviting editors to the space. If some of you know you will be unavailable during this time, it's totally fine if you need to bow out for the pilot. But we do need all the mentors we can get, so even if you can take the time to mentor just one or two editors, that would be fantastic.
Thanks a bunch, I, JethroBT drop me a line on behalf of Wikipedia:Co-op.
