Thank you!
Ciao MESSI, just wanted to thank you for all the help cleaning up the Italian footballer articles. I think you do a great job. Ciao Danieletorino2 (talk) 04:30, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
This is a mistake, right?
Hey, I found a player who was eligible to Wikipedia nearly three years ago but still hasn't been created. He's in one of my many sandboxes now. Anyway, as you can see from my profile, I study Italian and speak it with friends. Surely here they should say "dal Bologna" or "al Cagliari"?
Best wishes '''tAD''' (talk) 03:32, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- I'm very near publishing, I have to just do his international section. I will alert you once it is published '''tAD''' (talk) 03:57, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
Alessandro Capello is now published. I've noticed a lot of references to him being the property of Internazionale, can you find the details on that. I know that these shared ownership deals are common in Italy. If the page is satisfactory, we can nominate it to be in the Did You Know section on the main page. '''tAD''' (talk) 04:04, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, it's great. Small thing: I left rossoblu untranslated, because in English media we still have azzurri, giallorossi etc. '''tAD''' (talk) 09:06, 25 August 2015 (UTC)

Football/Juve/Italy/MLS/others
Sorry to bother you again. Firstly, good job with all the tweaks on the Del Piero article. I also noticed you added a note for Cannovaro's captaincy on the records article, good job pointing that out. Now for the question: I noticed that Cannavaro's captaincy ends in 2010, after the 2010 WC, while Buffon's captaincy starts in 2011 (not 2010). Obviously Buffon got injured in the 2010 WC so he couldn't make it back to action until early 2011 (when he finally got the captain band), but there were also a few games in between that time. Do you know if someone else assumed captain for that brief time or did they just not have a captain for that time? I noticed that for some players in the captaincy list, there are one year gaps like Buffon's case, but that could just be because they were relieved from captaincy duties late in the year and then the very next game happened to be in the following year (if that makes sense). Do you think a note would be worth placing a mention for that or do you think it's not necessary? Thanks. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:09, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
Francesco Totti Featured Article
Hi Messirulez, I've been looking at the work you and Vaselineeeeeeee did on the Francesco Totti page to get it to GA status and I think it's really close to (if not already at) a Featured Article level of quality. You guys should definitely look to have it promoted to FA. Great work by the way! Cheers, Liam E. Bekker (talk) 11:28, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Liam E. Bekker: Thanks Liam. I'll inquire with User:Jaguar, who promoted Totti to GA to see if he thinks it could be. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 12:42, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

"Doping scandal" surrounding 1996 CL Juve
Hi there. There is a pretty long and tiring discussion at Talk:Juventus F.C. and WT:FOOTY regarding the "doping scandal" of the 1996 CL Juve. If you can, please review Dante's sources, as you can understand the Italian better than me, as well as pose anything that may make the other users constant additions more balanced. It might not belong in the Juve page directly, maybe the History of Juventus F.C. instead...but we can't have POV maintenance templates at Antonio Conte or Alessandro Del Piero, especially because Del Piero is a Good Article. Also at 1996 UEFA Champions League Final. Thanks. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 22:54, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
Football records in Italy
Hey! I wanted to let you know that earlier I changed 390 to 391 for Silvio Piola's highest goals scored in all competitions if Divisione Nazionale and Italy B were considered at Football records in Italy#Highest-scoring Italian players in all competitions, as the numbers weren't adding up. Also, there was a new page created List of Serie A hat-tricks, which shows Gunnar Nordahl with the most hat-tricks at 17, which seems to be a discrepancy from Football records in Italy#Most hat-tricks in Serie A listing Filippo Inzaghi at 10. I'm a little busy, so I'd take a deeper look into it later, but if you've got time to take a look that'd be cool, thanks! (fingers crossed for TFC and a good Juve CL draw!) Maldini for GA...soon
Hey, so I've asked Jaguar, whom I'm sure you remember, to take a look at Paolo Maldini to give us some advice on getting it ready, as it's almost there. This is what he said: "I skimmed through the article earlier (I don't have time to do a full review at the moment) and it looks like the prose is in a good enough standard. It definitely meets the broadness aspect of the GA criteria. I did notice that the first paragraph of the Early career and 1990 World Cup subsection is unsourced, and that having both a picture and two quote boxes conflict with MOS guidelines as it squashes the text. It's certainly in good shape though—with a little polishing it should pass a GA review." We should do some recon on this soon–I will have some more time next week. Thanks. Moreno
Hey, if you look at the edit history of Byron Moreno, you'll see my "fight" to include any tidbits of information from this ref in the 2002 World Cup. It was a battle to include what was already included before you made an addition...I wouldn't be surprised if he reverts again. I really don't see anything wrong with it, as it is mostly impartial as you said. I think he just wants it more at 2002 FIFA World Cup knockout stage#South Korea vs Italy... Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 01:26, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
Hey! So someone removed Giacinto Facchetti's career stats table because there was no source. I tried looking at soccerway and espnfc, but it doesn't look like they have his profile on there. If you can find any, that'd be good. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 18:09, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- haha ok thanks. And ya, I know what you mean about him.....but I guess if you follow by the book to the T, then that's how it is, but I don't think it's a reason to get rid of the whole table. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 18:23, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
Buffon
Hey what do you think of the whole Oliver controversy with Buffon, in the sense that should it belong in his season section or his controversy section? I've had the debate with myself a few times, but I always come back to the season section because it's something that happened in the season and was an actual game, so I think it wouldn't be right to just include it in the controversy section, which is probably less looked at, but then seems also wrong to not have it in the controversy section, since, well, it is controversy. I've thought about including pieces in both sections, but didn't want to duplicate any info, but there needs to be appropriate context. I thought of just including the the ban part in the controversy section, has he was charged and given a 3 match ban today. It might make more sense since the ban occurred when he technically was done with Juve. Maybe if he really does sign for PSG, we'd move it to somewhere in the beginning of his PSG section, since the ban would impact his PSG matches. But yeah...so whaddya think? Pozzo
Hi! Excellent Italy qualified for the Euro! They are on their way to redemption. Anyway, I was looking at Vittorio Pozzo's page again after Mancini tied his consecutive game win streak, and although we have cleaned up the POV and most of the non encyclopedic tone, however, some still exists. Obviously sources are harder to find since he is an early coach, but do you think you have the resources to clean it up further - at least enough to feel like we can remove the ugly refimprove template from the top of the page? - Any news on the Higuaín suspension front (i.e number of matches to be served)? I hope Napoli lose all their games until they continue with this anti-Italian approach (same goes for Inter, Roma, Fiore, etc), but with several goals coming from the Argentine. Incredible, Ronaldo and his narcissistic approach ("Screw the team, give me my Pichichi/Golden Balls/Golden Shoes") reaping benefits from all quadrants (regarding the Golden Shoe, Higuaín seems the only adversary of note, as Jonas will not win it due to the fact they play four games less in Portugal, he would need a couple - if not more - of hat-tricks and pokers)!
Please note that I think Higuaín was very well sent off and he deserves a lofty suspension (inexcusable antics towards the man in black), as did Ronaldo for kicking FIVE opponents this season but "nobody" saw anything it seems. Ciao! --Be Quiet AL (talk) 17:38, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- Could not agree more with you, my wikifriend. Ah, the joyful past (Gentile was really as tough as they came, for example saying after his marking of Maradona at the 1982 FIFA World Cup, "Football is for men, not ballerinas"). Bits and pieces
Hi there MR, this is AL editing from his place of work,
Atalanta got fourth place over Lazio, terrific! Crotone managed to stay up after an incredible comeback, also neat ;) Speaking about Lazio, what is wrong with Federico Marchetti? Injuries, technical decisions, run-in with manager/board of directors? Has not appeared in months.
Next Saturday, go Juve! Regards, happy week (PS. should you wish to reply me, please do so to my IP at home, this one (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/85.242.133.151)) --193.137.135.2 (talk) 12:50, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, particularly noticeable were Kean's maiden goal (plenty of morale for the lad there) and Totti's retirement (we know he was not earning minimum wage at Roma, but still that's love for one club right there). For me, Dani Alves was the steal of the season overall, chap still running up and down (and with quality, not like a crazy chicken) at the age of 34!
Regarding Emiliano Audero, I am almost sure you can create his page even not being an administrator man, I think the only time where you cannot is when you don't have an account (like in my case). Take care --85.242.133.151 (talk) 17:33, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Hi there MR,
please take a look at this message I sent to our fellow user (see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Mattythewhite#Simone_Inzaghi), maybe you'll see what's wrong as you originally added the reference. Additionally, I might as well inform you that I now clicked on the article and it did not work for me, maybe it's just available for Corriere registered users?

- Sporting condolences, kind fellow user. But Buffon sure is a class act that seems to (fortunately) not go away, cheering the Swedish anthem as the idiotic Italian fans booed (no, nothing against Italy mate, I remember ten years or so ago, when the Portuguese fans booed the anthem from...ANDORRA! So there, no one can say they are better than anyone, even though they often do) in another display of sportsmanship as per use. This World Cup? Just as long as Portugal does not win it (you heard me well) I'm fine, sick and tired of Ronaldo, his antics and him being put on the pedestal by the media (a TV channel - granted it was this piece of garbage (with whom the player himself has had feuds in the past!), but still - thought it would be news of great interest to report LIVE when his latest/first natural son - who DOES NOT CARRY the mother's surname, and good luck on finding that particular news on the Portuguese web, that is bad news for the golden boy, and we can't have none of that! - was born and also when the mother and baby left the hospital) and the general population. I support no clubs, and the Portugal NT is nothing but that with the country's flag stitched in the shirt.
Sorry for the "tangled testament" above :) My request now, if possible: I browsed the Italian web looking for refs for Dimas Teixeira's spell at Juventus, but could only find these two season pages from their website where the player is not mentioned at all, except for the column at the right where he is referred to as being part of the championship-winning squad; do you think you can find some newspaper article or akin mentioning his plight under Lippi (a starter in his first two seasons, then did not play at all and had to leave for Turkey)? Only one source is enough, don't bother too much.
Best regards, thanks in advance --Quite A Character (talk) 09:55, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, man! And de Rossi's gesture of not wanting to take the pitch because Italy had to WIN and needed FORWARDS was also quite endearing. I think Barzagli, Chiellini and Gigi will have a "club treat" in store for you at the end of the season, they're not done yet! Best, thanks for your hard work (in Dimas and overall) again --Quite A Character (talk) 16:06, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
Back to Mr. Inzaghi: are you sure he was awarded a medal for the 2009 Supercoppa Italiana? I think it's customary here to not award accolade if player does not even make bench (or plays zero seconds in tournament even if a part of squad), EVEN if club/general websites bestow the honour.
Keep safe, from Portugal --Quite A Character (talk) 10:38, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hi there! To be fair, i usually insert the playoff stats in the infobox too, provided we keep it consistent (i.e. adding playoff stats for ALL clubs not just some). I honestly do not know if there is any particular guideline for or against such an insertion, but i think i "heard through the wikigrapevine" that it's best if they stay out of the box and in the charts we usually insert at the bottom of the article, after wording and before honours.
Best regards back (of course, i leave Mr. Vázquez's article as it is presently, no worries from me) --Quite A Character (talk) 22:08, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi there mate, all well?
Like i said in my summary, i really feel if the player only stays at Inter until 30 June, that bit of storyline should belong in the BARCELONA sub-section, but if he finally signs permanently of course he should have a INTER section.
"Whatever" in my second summary meant i am growing tired of edit wars and akin (not saying you and i have engaged in such a behaviour, the farthest from the truth), and also i don't want to make it look like i don't respect your work because i do, hence i left the article with your (current) version.
Best, happy week --Quite A Character (talk) 22:44, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
Hi there, how's it going?
A little assistance here if you can: just added some refs to this obscure (he promised so much at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup) player, but cannot make heads or tails out of source #4. Don't know if "il vice Marchi" refers to a person, a team nickname, whatever.
Thank you very much in advance, buona settimana e ciao! --Quite A Character (talk) 10:08, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
- I have already mended the grammatical part, sorry for screwing that one :( Regarding the (non)usage of "Lega" i am afraid i don't concur, surely that can mislead some readers until they (assuming they know some Italian) read the newspaper article. In all my (11) years of editing, i have NEVER added a word to the translation title that was not in the original one.
Thank you very much as always per your assistance, keep it up --Quite A Character (talk) 21:43, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- Ah, indeed, i did not mean translate ALL the refs verbatim, and you also have to take idiomatic expressions and akin into consideration! Just in cases like this, of course. Enjoy the new week --Quite A Character (talk) 19:42, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
Another clash
Hi there MR, all well?
Let's see if Juve finally best Real, although i'm not feeling all that confident, the Spaniards ONLY care about winning the CL (and i don't say this season, i say ALWAYS!) so they rest all their starters the weekend before the European tie. Also, Ronaldo is considered dead pretty much midway through each and every one of the last 2/3 seasons, then he "wakes up" (he's pretty much all power and positioning now, but there he still holds a big advantage in regard to 99,999999999999% of the players) precisely in "his" competition (the only one he also cares to win, that and the Ballon d'Or)!
All the best for you, RIP Davide Astori (i did not manage to talk to you every since this happened, quite reminiscent of the Daniel Jarque tragedy, happened in Italy - and in Florence - by the way) and get well Pelayo Novo García (what a silly accident)! --Quite A Character (talk) 17:00, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
- Guess not, a shame... Another "plea for assistance", if you please: in Nicolas Frey, what does "corsara" - shown in reference #2 - exactly mean? I know it can be related to pirates ("corsaro", a privateer), but the connotation here is not that one am i correct? Best, thanks in advance --Quite A Character (talk) 20:46, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
Or maybe it does have that "piratey feel" to it, and sentence could be translated as "Fiorentina plunder Chievo"? Just wondering... --Quite A Character (talk) 21:15, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hope all's well with you, you have been wiki-absent for a long time... Game of the title in Italy has kicked off, THREE ITALIANS fielded the two teams combined, pathetic and disgusting (of course, the "horrible" Marchisio did not even make the squad AGAIN)! --Quite A Character (talk) 18:58, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
"Italian" football
Hi there, hopefully all well with you,
14 players utilized by manager Allegri today, 13 (!!) foreigners. That's the football we have now sadly, 99,999999999999999% of the managers (at least in European football) are lousy racists (not backing down one inch from this statement, if - for example Allegri, or Ancelotti now at Napoli, or José Peseiro or Sérgio Conceição in my country - a coach says "If you are Italian/Portuguese then i don't want you in my team" what is he? A racist (sportswise of course, not accusing them of being racists socialwise, but maybe they are i don't know), period!), last month or so i read match sheets from two Cypriot clubs in European competitions, and they totalled ZERO Cypriot players, you heard me right. PFC Ludogorets Razgrad has been winning the Bulgarian League with the grand total of one (TWO at best) national player; of course, Juventus fans like yourself or Vaseline could not care less about this as long as you are winning, and god forbid doing that with some national players, downright impossible (please note the sarcasm)!
Question now, as i sincerely do not remember: who was last year(s)' penalty taker at Juventus? Well, he can forget about that this season because the prima donna can get upset, first he made Cuadrado concede the #7 shirt like the egotistic individual that he is. Yes my kind fellow user, i am Portuguese as you know but i am not a stupid sheep as so many of my compatriots, who now seem to support Juventus and not Real Madrid all of a sudden (like magic, for example, Sport TV stopped broadcasting La Liga but they kept Serie A, a "coincidence" i guess...)!
Kind regards, sorry for the rant (by the way, great going Douglas Costa, two yellow cards in two minutes, i guess Pjanic will take his place in the next match, or maybe Marchisio or Sturaro...oh wait, latter two have been sold!! By the way "part 2", Lorenzo Insigne still does not finish one match, should he score or should he not score) --Quite A Character (talk) 14:59, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
- I mean, I wouldn't necessarily say I don't care that we don't have enough Italian talent on Juve, because it does somewhat bug me. But if you look at the situation we have in Italy with the national team, it is somewhat clearer why we don't have many Italians—they just aren't performing as well as other top players from other countries. Italy vs Portugal the other day had zero Juve players in the starting line up in 20 years, with only the three defenders, Perin and Berna on the bench. We do have some decent forwards like Belotti, Immobile, etc, but they don't seem to jive together, and even at club level, can they really compare with the likes of Dybala, Ronaldo and Mandzukic...not really. Italy's midfield has gone downhill drastically. Most of Italy's midfield doesn't even get regular playing time at club level. I think in defence we are in alright shape, but the midfield is where we are really lacking. I thought Douglas Costa had a good game when he came in, but at the end there, it was really pathetic to elbow and spit in his face, disgusting. Never was a huge fan of Sturaro, but it did tick me off about Marchisio, but he's had so many injury problems in the last year and a half-two years that it's hard to use him. Finally Ronaldo broke his shackles today, the second goal was really nice, and he also had two chances to get a hatty but screwed it up. You can see the players trying to feed him the ball all the time, sometimes over a better ball, which is annoying-hopefully that stops now since he's finally scored. I think Cuadrado gave up the number out of respect, but yeah it's dumb how people follow him like sheep no matter his team. It is also kinda annoying how he slams the ground or kicks the post when he misses a chance...like calm down lol Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 15:20, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for TPS'ing :) WOW (i only looked at a match sheet, i refuse to watch matches with Ronaldo in them, and that includes the national team), for spitting and elbowing?! A hefty suspension is expected then, no (but Allegri will sorely miss him, his nationality ends in "lian" but it does not start with "Ita")? GOOD! Also, please correct me if i'm wrong, but did you just say that Immobile is a worse player than Mandzukic and Dybala? OK, maybe Ronaldo is on a completely different level (in goals, but also in tantrums and aggressions (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GCX4VnAKXc)), but what does Immobile have to do more? --Quite A Character (talk) 16:28, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, he should get at least a 3 game suspension in my view. Personally, I'd rather have Mandzukic or Dybala on my team, but I wouldn't be mad to have Immobile. Immobile did have an excellent season last season - but who knows if he can do that again. As for the national team, he has been very dismal. I guess the real comparison is with the quality of Juve's midfileders vs the ones on the national team. At the moment Gagliardini, Pellegrini just don't compare - but they're young, as most of the national team is right now. Even some of our full backs, Biraghi didn't have a good game at all, his crosses were bad. Alex Sandro and Costa are much better than what we have, although De Sciglio and Criscito can have some quality. It's a tough situation because you want to have the best team you can buy to win as much as possible, but then the younger Italians who are growing in the national team don't get played much at club level so don't have a chance to improve - something Mancini urged coaches to do - I think therein lies one of the big dilemmas. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:46, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
Sorry to bother you once again, thanks to User:Vaselineeeeeeee for the reply. I never meant to be a nuisance, and I do acknowledge my approach when I engage in this mode is hardly encyclopedical :( --Quite A Character (talk) 08:57, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, @Vaselineeeeeeee: and @Quite A Character:! Sorry for the late reply! Yes, I would like it if we gave young Italian talent more opportunities, but I think that this is a problem with lack of funding to the youth systems and some flaws in our football league system at the moment, as well as the league's general lack of money. At the moment we do have some decent players, but obviously we are in a difficult moment with the national team failing to qualify for the World Cup, even though our younger Italy teams seem to be doing well. As for Juve, we do still have several Italian players and have always had them, but at the same time football is a business and Juve also want to be competitive and try and win the Champions League soon with their acquisitions, and I don't think that there are many Italian players, aside from defenders and goalkeepers (and they mostly play for us at the moment, like Perin, Chiellini, Barzagli, De Sciglio, Bonucci, Rugani, Spinazzola...some of them are still young I guess but solid; shame about Caldara's sale, but Bonucci is a short-term solution to try and be successful in Europe), who are genuinely world class (in midfield Verratti is very talented but his mentality is a little weak and it doesn't look like he will leave PSG for now, and Jorginho has been overlooked for some time, but he went to join Sarri at Chelsea anyway). Marchisio's sale was a shame and an error in my opinion, as although he is injury prone, there aren't many players who combine his work-rate, tactical sense, and technical skills with creative passing and good offensive capabilities, and when fit he is world class, plus he's been at Juve for his entire career and stuck with us even when we struggled, and Allegri favours Khedira who is also injury prone, and tactically very intelligent, hard-working, and even scores goals, but nowhere near as talented, dynamic, or creative. Sturaro, on the other hand, he looked like he would become a decent ball-winner in the box-to-box role, and Allegri even tried him out as a full-back, but he has been disappointing, and really lacks technical ability. And unfortunately Immobile and Belotti may seem prolific but they are very inconsistent and outside of Serie A and with Italy they haven't done much. Mandzukic on the other hand is a born winner and he scores big goals rather than a lot of meaningless goals. He's won everything at club level and even reached the World Cup final this year. And in Italy, although we've always had amazing number 10s in the past, we don't really have a forward or attacking midfielder with Dybala's quality at the moment, aside from Bernardeschi (who has been playing) and Insigne, who is also inconsistent (mind you, so is Dybala, but he's done more in Europe and scores more). We have some decent young players, but unfortunately a lot of young talents also fizzle out into nothing; hopefully these new young players like Gagliardini, Pellegrini, Biraghi, Chiesa, Donnarumma, Romagnoli, Caldara etc. won't though. And as Vaselineeeeeeee said, we do have some solid devensive full-backs like De Sciglio and Criscito, but they don't offer too much going forward. Sandro had a mixed year last season but seems to be recapturing his prior form, and although Cancelo has defensive limitations, he does offer a lot more going forward then Lichtsteiner or De Sciglio with his speed, skill, crossing ability and attacking drive, which is something we really need right now, especially when our defence is already strong. All of the best teams have world class attacking full-backs, and two years ago probably Dani Alves's presence in the team was really what helped us reach the Champions League final, even though he wasn't the best defensively. But look at Real Madrid with Marcelo; he's a game changer with his offensive contribution, even though he might be caught out of position when defending at times.
As for Cristiano Ronaldo, Dybala was our penalty taker before and was good at them, as is Pjanic, but Cristiano is almost flawless from the spot, so if he takes them and scores them, I don't really mind, as we don't have anyone better than him at them right now. Yeah, I get why it seems annoying that Cuadrado gave up the number 7 for him, and that it further demonstrates how big his ego is (and I have always fully acknowledged this) but I think that in this case it was the club that made Cuadrado give it up out of respect, as this also happens a lot now in football; the same with Pastore giving the number 10 shirt to Neymar, or Areola giving the number 1 shirt to Buffon at PSG. And Douglas Costa fully deserved a lengthy ban for his dreadful behaviour, but last season he was probably our best player, and is so important with his dribbling skills, speed, work-rate, and ability to provide assists from crosses or strike from distance, so I can't blame Allegri for starting him normally. Best regards, Messirulez (talk) 18:01, 21 September 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the input, as always! Now, after the match at Valencia, the SIC TV channel (who licks Ronaldo's boots as 100% of the remaining Portuguese media) showed a piece with the sycophantic anchor saying beforehand "The football world has come out in defence of Ronaldo". I refused to watch the piece of course, but i can only imagine who that "world" was: his former Real Madrid mates, his Juventus mates, his Portugal teammates who are asked consistently about him even when he IS NOT playing? This punk has been sent off (as his former Madrid coach - also formerly of Juve - Zidane) more than ten times in his career, and two/three seasons ago (not sure) he escaped direct ejection six or seven times, mostly due to from-behind kicks (see this action with Sporting de Gijón's Nacho Cases, for starters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWY2LznrmUQ). Also a bit sick and tired of having footballers constantly resorting to social media to showcase their two brain cells, and there Ronaldo is also the king (not alone in that department though, there i'll defend him a bit). His former Real teammate Theo Hernández, for example, said of the Valencia incident on Twitter: "Shameful" (see here https://real-sociedad.diariovasco.com/theo-hernandez-explota-twitter-cristiano-ronaldo-20180920083443-nt.html)... Pathetic!
Monday, barring a Modric miracle, this player will have won SIX Ballon d'Or, sickening (not saying he does not deserve one or two, but six?!). Speaking of "sickening", Ronaldo knew he would not win the last UEFA award and bailed out of the ceremony, shying from showing support to a teammate of SIX YEARS. His agent, who does not want to lose his golden goose and wants more islands as presents whenever possible (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-33756401), also thought Modric winning that accolade was shameful.
Anyways, i wish you a pleasant Saturday, and i extend that vote to @Vaselineeeeeeee:. Regards back, from Portugal --Quite A Character (talk) 19:00, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
- Forgot this: i have already addressed what goes on with the Portuguese media regarding Ronaldo, and i add that Marca, during the nine years he played there, had an average of four/five articles per day saying how marvellous he was as a teammate and a human being, and many many pieces had ZILCH to do with football! So, my polite question is: has the Italian media started with the adulation of him and his family yet (which makes me remember about a 30-MINUTE piece on Irina Shayk on the same TV channel (SIC) some years ago, i kid you not, now in Portugal they're all "Irina who?" "Georgina is the woman of the hour")?
Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 18:57, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, @Quite A Character:. I've never been a huge Ronaldo fan, and even though I acknowledge his talent, goalscoring ability, work-rate and professionalism as an athlete, I am fully aware of his character and ego, although then again I would think that in order to be at that level you must have some sort of ego. It was silly and naive of him to put his hands on his opponent, considering his experience, but I really do think it was a ridiculous red card, and I have always been critical when he has gotten players sent off with similar dramatic dives in the Champions League (once against us as well), so maybe it was karma, but in this case, I think a booking would've been enough. He has certainly been petulant in his attitude and behaviour towards officials in the past, and has lashed out at other players, so he shouldn't play the victim either. I am disappointed as well that he missed the UEFA Best Men's Player Award ceremony because he knew he wouldn't win; I agree that it is disrespectful, especially when Modric – who was his former teammate, as you said – is equally deserving of the award considering he's the best midfielder in the world (and has been for some time, playing a key role in all of Real Madrid's titles in these past 4 years), was amazing in the Champions League, and has been for some time, and also helped his national team to the World Cup final, something which Ronaldo has never done (which is why I don't think he should've won the award in 2014, since Portugal went out in the first round of the World Cup...I really thought Di Maria deserved it for being briliant in the Champions League and helping Argentina to the World Cup final). The Italian media (or sensationalist journalism in Italy I should say, rather) are known for their interest in gossip, so I'm sure they will give plenty of attention to Ronaldo. I'm not sure if all of it will be in praise of him...possibly, as it's been a while since Serie A has had a star of his quality and popularity, but they also like to smear players at times. Best regards, Messirulez (talk) 02:59, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
Good morning to you too! To end this polite exchange of opinions, I'll say that I agree the Valencia ejection was a bit harsh, like Pepe in the 2014 WC match against Germany (remember that?), their reputation preceeded them a bit there I guess and I don't feel a bit sorry for them (Pepe has cleaned up his act the last five/six years, but before that he was a disgusting animal - with pardon to animals). Buona settimana, ciao! --Quite A Character (talk) 08:28, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, @Quite A Character:, agreed! Best, Messirulez (talk) 13:11, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
Did not attend the ceremony the prima donna, again (certes, Messi did not as well, but he was not nominated for anything important; and before you start to think i'm all anti-Ronaldo and all pro-Messi, i'll say beforehand i think Messi has a big ego too - not so big, but still - yesterday, for example, he did not shake the referee's hand (who offered it) after the match against Girona FC; they can both go and eat a big pile of dirt as far as being role models, but i'll never support the Portuguese in anything, not even if my life is threatened :)). My compatriots are all over the internet as we speak saying "another ceremony with no credit, "FIFA mafia", etc, etc... pathetic sheep!!
Thanks Mr. Modric from the bottom of my heart, kind regards to you --Quite A Character (talk) 20:21, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
Another "my bad" from yours truly, just found out (or maybe and knew and i forgot) The Best is one award and the Ballon d'Or is another. FIFA/UEFA create(s) so many needless awards (to further boast the players' egos) and competitions (to make more money) it baffles the mind, literally! --Quite A Character (talk) 21:13, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi, @Quite A Character:. Sorry, I missed your last comment. Yeah, from that replay it looks like he kicked him and that it could've been intentional, even though it happened so fast. I don't know if anyone saw it in real time though and as far as I know VAR will only be introduced in the Champions League starting next season (which is ridiculous)? I guess he probably deserved something for that. I'm not really outraged by it though as there have been plenty of times that he went unpunished for poor behaviour, but it's frustrating as a Juve fan that he gets punished for it once he joins us! And yes, now there are three awards, the UEFA one (which was the Club Footballer Award for a while and now is the Best Player in Europe Award), the France Football Ballon d'Or, and the FIFA Award, with the latter two being awarded separately again these last couple of years. I'm glad to see Modric being awarded again (we'll see if he wins the Ballon d'Or though; and I agree, Ronaldo should've turned up as a finalist and as his teammate; Messi also didn't turn up, but he wasn't a finalist this time, as you said), although the FIFPro World XI still baffles me a bit...how come De Gea was the best goalkeeper when he wasn't nominated for the FIFA Best Goalkeeper Award? And why is Dani Alves on there and why were some finalists excluded as well? Bizarre...I suppose it does come down to a vote from fans and players, reporters, and managers, I think. Best, Messirulez (talk) 21:48, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- LOL at the De Gea situation, did not know that one! Kind of reminds you of some NBA awards, with (for example) the DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR not making the All-Defensive First Team... Decisions, one would say ;)
Best of luck tomorrow against the Jovens Rapazes (use Google Translate from Portuguese to English to see what that means!), not that you'll need it i wager :) This year, i'd like to see Shakhtar Donetsk (now that they have found a good balance between Brazilians and national talent; nothing to do with my compatriot Paulo Fonseca being there) lift the cup, or Atlético Madrid because they sure "owe it to football" man. And now, i wake up from this idiotic dream!
Best regards to you as well, pay no attention to this (sometimes) crybaby, i tend to forget more than i should people have a life OUTSIDE the encyclopedia, and when they log on they (perhaps) have more important things on their minds! Keep up the great work, boa noite. --Quite A Character (talk) 22:56, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
Thiago Motta – part #2
Hi there,
was just adjusting/matching display of this player's references, when i found something "fishy" in #57 (from VIVO AZZURRO). I suppose you (i say "you" because 99,9999999999999% of that section, the style of play, was done (very well, i might add) by you) created the fields for the refs then added the URL from another website wrongly.
I tried to browse the web just now, but came out miserably empty. Think you can lend a hand, please?
Best regards, happy editing/weekend --Quite A Character (talk) 16:16, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
Bits and pieces #2
Hi there,
congratulations on another win (i will not write "title" because it could sound i'm being disrespectful of other clubs or taunting you somehow, but we can agree the eighth in a row is a real possibility in this current scenario), now for some questions: 1 - what happened in the 79th minute of today's match, that of Ronaldo's goal? I saw from Soccerway's matchsheet he was booked also there, was it before the kick or after? Always curious to hear from this person's unbelievably stupid antics, not saying this was the case now, just asking; 2 - why is Bernardeschi not being called up to any Champions League matches now (two or three in a row, i think)? I think i know the answer, but since i like chatting with you and always trust your judgement, i await for your reply.
Oh, and if this is true (https://en.as.com/en/2018/11/30/football/1543610524_203924.html?omnil=resrelrecomv), what a poor excuse of a teammate (not to mention human being)!! But in my country, people think pieces of news like "Dybala has been Ronaldized" or "The whole stadium shouted "SIIIIIIIII" with him" (when he scored last matchday, against SPAL) are regular Pullitzer-like material (i say my country but it's most likely worldwide, for example when i worked on a WP article last week, i saw the cover of the CORRIERE DELLO SPORT for the last Champions League fixture against Valencia which read "L'amico geniale", "The great friend", just because of his assist to Mandzukic)!
And if you need more proof that 99,9999999999999999% of the managers in the vast majority of the European leagues despise and loathe the national talent, have a look at these two matchsheets from the Premier League (https://pt.soccerway.com/matches/2018/12/01/england/premier-league/newcastle-united-football-club/west-ham-united-fc/2795408/?ICID=HP_MS_05_05 and https://pt.soccerway.com/matches/2018/12/01/england/premier-league/crystal-palace-fc/burnley-fc/2795403/?ICID=HP_MS_05_01)... Mind you, in these cases we are not talking about your average millionaire-owned clubs that buy everything that moves, but four rather modest (in comparison, of course) ballclubs; well, EIGHT English players in a total of 44, pathetic and disgusting!!
Best regards, enjoy the rest of your Saturday --Quite A Character (talk) 20:10, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
- And this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Transfer_article_needed?)?! WP has let the "Ronaldievers" in, i see... Oh, and reading the Portuguese web now, i see many of my compatriots are saying "Well done" to his decision of yet again sulking and avoiding showing empathy towards a fellow footballer, calling UEFA a mafia ruled by Real Madrid (of course, when this punk won four Ballon d'Or while at this very club, nothing was ever questioned by the pathetic sheep that are many of my compatriots, and the masses yelled "And counting!" --Quite A Character (talk) 21:47, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
Here's the explanation (https://www.si.com/soccer/2018/12/01/ronaldo-goal-celebration-penalty-subbed-juventus-serie-a), he kicked the ball into the stands when celebrating. I'll be fair to him there, 99,99999999999999999% of the players in the world engage in similar celebrations. Of course, Juventus' official Twitter wasted no time in adulating (also there in the ref i send you now), describing his penalty as "Powerful. Accurate. Perfect. Cristiano" (oh, and last week Allegri said he merits to win the Golden Ball as well, and my compatriot André Villas-Boas added that everybody must be joking to sell Ronaldo for "only" 100 million euros, pathetic statement when children die of starvation around the world!). Just shut up already (here's another one: apparently, Sports Illustrated must have two reports for that match, one for all the players and one just for Ronaldo, if you notice in this one i just sent you ONLY Ronaldo is mentioned - not even the other two goalscorers!! - and Allegri is also referred to because he decided to sub him after the booking)!
Have a nice week --Quite A Character (talk) 22:36, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
Hello there, this is QuiteACharacter aka BeQuietAL now as anon (some constant monitoring of my edits led me to this),
sorry for the run-in in this player, and i (still) politely disagree with you (but will not revert again). If a player does not play once in league (at least in Portugal and Spain), they do not get a medal. I am going to ask around.
Best regards, from Portugal --81.193.141.118 (talk) 17:31, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
- I said i would not remove anything again out of respect for you, but after my explanation you're not removing it either? Fair enough, i'm currently await for mediation on the matter, let's see what the inputs from the other party(es) are; ah, and regarding your first edit no need to apologise whatsoever, you were not abrupt at all.
Attentively --81.193.141.118 (talk) 23:48, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
- The user/admin i contacted refuses to reply for reasons that elude me (active after my original message, active after my follow-up asking please for a reply), i'll take it to WP:FOOTY (but obviously, this can/will result in someone going to the rest of his honours and removing them all for lack of sources, i know another admin that does that all the time). Best also! --81.193.141.118 (talk) 09:38, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
Report finished, please do participate --81.193.141.118 (talk) 13:20, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
Well? No additional comments and/or removal of honour after the WP:FOOTY report? I think :@Crowsus: makes a pretty valid point there. That being said don't worry, honour stays there even though (in my view) it's wrong. --81.193.141.118 (talk) 17:50, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
Was i impolite or akin in my follow-up messages to not merit any additional replies? If so (i really can't see where), i apologise. --81.193.141.118 (talk) 19:09, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for participating. It is me or, in that input of yours, you seem to not be sure he qualifies or not (the sentence starts off with "Couldn't find anything to be honest")? In that case, why am i not allowed to remove that league where he played ZERO seconds (i know if i do, i most likely will be reverted)?
Cheers, happy weekend --81.193.141.118 (talk) 20:31, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry it took me so long to reply, busy with other articles. I'll remove said honour now, feel free to reinstate it if you find any proof he did win that league (HIGHLY unlikely you will/can, players in Spain need at least one appearance to earn a winners' medal).
Thanks for all the interaction and politeness as always, best to you as well! --81.193.141.118 (talk) 21:24, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
Hello there,
i was just trying to find a way to avoid repeting the word (especially a FOREIGN word, as is La Liga) in the same sentence. Helas, sorry for any inconvenience, it stays how you want (but if you can re-rephrase it without using the word twice that'd be awesome).
Best regards --Quite A Character (talk) 15:47, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

Hey Messirulez, i hope you are having a good time since our last meeting (When me, an anonymous guy asked you to help him add the content regarding Gigi's comment about Cech). I have been since consistently delivering good edits to Cechs' article. But there's a problem. Actually I don't know how to update the Career Stats and Petr Cech's stats had not been updated since Valentine's Day. So i ask you to please take some time out from your busy schedule and update the stats. Yours Friend - 47.8.123.196 (Don't talk) 06:04, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
Petr Čech content placement
In the article of Petr Čech, i want to point out a mistake. In the section "Style of Play" we can see two subsections so the name of the section should be "Style of Play and Reception". And the comment of Buffon in the sub-section "Reception" should be in the Analysis sub-part in the form of an indepedent Quotebox because the comment is all about the way Petr played in contrast to others. I hop you can please do that. 117.234.169.138 (talk) 08:19, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hi; thanks for your message. I think it's fine as it is. There are several other articles that have the style of play section organised with those two sub-headings, and Buffon's quote just mentions that Cech is the best overall of his era, but doesn't really mention the way he plays (he mentions that Reina is the best with his feet, Casillas with his hands, and Neuer in the air), so that's fine in the reception section. Best regards, Messirulez (talk) 10:21, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hmmmmmmm....I understand but i thought that it would look amazing to viewers to see that in a separate quotebox because it is a remarkable comment from GIGI, the one and only Gianluigi Buffon. 117.234.48.196 (talk) 14:50, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
- It would look nice, but there is already the Mourinho box-quote, and I do think that Buffon's quote fits well with Casillas's and Lehman's quote in that section. Messirulez (talk) 15:05, 15 April 2019 (UTC)

Response
Thanks for your comment regarding Ronaldo. The UEFA list (which isn’t by UEFA, just by an anonymous writer), gives a write up on the CL careers of each player. That’s what it’s about, their CL careers (Ronaldo’s was a very short one, just 16 goals). Of course the article title is misleading; it’s contradicted by all the other lists that focus solely on best players. Is Sol Campbell a better player than Ronaldo? Nobody on the planet would say he is, including Sol Campbell. Did Sol Campbell have a better CL career than Ronaldo and come closer to winning it? Yes, which is why he is at #10, and Ronaldo at #11. The FourFourTwo list is about the best players, with a focus on their talent, hence Ronaldo is #1, while Sol Campbell is #24. Here’s another from HITC: “7 Best Players who never won the Champions League” “1. Ronaldo. Among the easiest decisions I’ve ever had to make with regard to top spot in a video.”. Ronaldo also tops other lists of best players never to win the CL, on MSN, The Telegraph, and is second to Maradona on Sky Sports list that includes the European Cup. Football article classes
I've been working on the Mario Gómez article, which is currently rated C-class. If you have a moment, would you be willing to check whether it is eligible for B-class in its current state? A query
Dear @Messirulez,
I was wondering if you, as a distinguished user, might have a look at this situation for me. I wanted to add section titles on the article Roberto Firmino, as is done on many other articles such as Mohamed Salah, Lionel Messi and Steven Gerrard (as I feel that the article is lacking them). However, a user named Giant Snowman disagreed with me and subsequently reverted many of my edits. I was wondering if you might provide your opinion on this (the full conversation can be found here: Talk:Roberto Firmino#Opinion), and perhaps reply back to me with your thoughts?
Warm regards,
