St Joseph's College Hunter's Hill

Hey Loopla, I'm wondering if you can verify Image:JoeysHH1930s.jpg supposedly of St. Joseph's College, Hunters Hill. The building bears very little similarity to the main building of the school; the landscaping around the building in the photograph bears no similarity whatsoever to the relatively flat terrain immediately around the actual school. I think you've got the wrong St Joseph's. -Sticks66 (talk) 13:31, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey I noticed you added a tag on Josh710 for poor edits, he's doing the same with the article for The Biggest Loser Australia (Season 3) and thought you might like to add to the dispute on the discussion page or help with stopping his edits as they are frustrating. He keeps reverting edits and removing information, adding his own information which is poorly written and messing up the consistency set out by the previous two seasons. I can't seem to explain clearly that the article is being messed up. Do you know the process to get it sorted out civilly? Cheers. Peter (talk) 03:09, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In response to the removal of the aforementioned section, i adress Loopla and Twenty Years. I my self am i past captain of the college and believe that both i, and my fellow captains deserve a mention on this site. i also believe that the current leadership have the right to be mentioned, as i would have appreciated also many years ago. What is the point of wikipedia? the answer is to provide information to the public, and to let the public decide what is included. i feel that these two categories fulfill both criteria. the information is rlevant, wheter you accept it or not.

In response to it being unencylopedic wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn defines encyclopedic as being broad in scope or content. The history of college leadership isnt broad enough for you?

and finally, the audacity of saying that no one cares is shocking. evidently the poor soul who added the list cares, hence enough to warrent its presence. i feel that people should STOP trying to enforce their beleifs on this site. none of you, and i speak particularly to loopla and Twenty Years, are administrators on this site. you have the same entitlements as anyone else in this world does to decide what goes on this page. for this reason, i will continue to undo your edits. wikipedia is not about manipulation and controlling, thats not the reason why you are allowed to edit it. i hope to not have to continue in this childish war. if anyone wishes to discuss this issue further, please do so.

loopla additions

Loopla, i wish to bring your attention to my recent post on the Patrician Brothers College Fairfield Disscusson Board:

I refer everyone to WP:SCH#WNTI, the guide on how to write articles on schools. the last line of the intro sates Note that these are only recommendations, and editors are not obliged to follow them. Over the past week i have been bombarded with excuses on why these lists should not be added, from child protection (which was a void excuse, considering that the names of these students and many others appear on the school website without permission, also names do not breach any official codes), the quote that "School articles should specifically not include: Lists of current teachers, pupils, administrative staff, school secretaries, etc", where all school articles breech this, particularly this one with many references (where the so called refereeing of the article now?) and finally that it is unencyclopaedic. wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn defines encyclopedic as being broad in scope or content. The history of college leadership isnt broad enough for you?. Then after i tried to defend my reasoning, the only thing loopla had to retaliate with was Wikipedia is not a place for self promotion (see WP:SOAP). . Seriously, what is that? thats resorting to desperation, because you all know that there is NO valid reason why these lists should be removed. you are just blindly trying to enforce your points of view for the sake of it. not one person on this message board has presented a valid reason why it should be removed.

i ask again for reason. whether it be loopla, twenty years, or this new player discospinster, stop playing administrators. this is a public forum. past, present and other members of the college have the right to determine what is included. and yes, i have browsed your user pages, many medals, congratualations. if you were truly that good, you would be writing for funk and wagnals, or britanica. but no, you are not. you are trying to exercise power over a wiki page(WIKI: A website or similar online resource which allows users to add and edit content collectively. www.tvb.org/multiplatform/Multiplatform_Glossary.asp). you have no right to threaten with securing the page. all that is, is a baby winging to have their own way. and i am sorry to make this personal, but thats all this is. Cyberbullying. everyone has the right to determine what content occurs on a page. and yes, securing can be aranged. but look at pastsites that have been secured, George Bush's page is most notable. and why was it secured. because of vandalism on the site where people were including political views. you can hardly say that these lists are vandalism, political, or creating a non neutral page.

without having WP:SOAP thrown at me again, i have had my day in the sun at the school. i dont need praise. but this now is purly about principle for me. You can not use mob mentality to group up on another person. again i will continue to edit this site. i ask again for this stupidiyt to be brought to an end.

Should you have anyhing further to discuss with me, please do so on my talk page

The guy's nominated it for deletion. While I can see some obvious areas for improvement on the Aust school one (private is fine as it is), it's superior to the general template in my opinion. Orderinchaos 06:39, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Concordia

How about waiting till I've finished before you vandalise my changes? Pdfpdf (talk) 10:06, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Minor problem - Yrs 7-10 inclusive follow the IBMYP. To say "students from Year 10 follow the curriculum mandated by the Senior Secondary Assessment Board of South Australia" is not correct. (Yes, I know you didn't say that.) I'm considering presenting Yr 10 separately from Yr 11-12. Your thoughts? Pdfpdf (talk) 10:26, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I think it's necessary to say something about SA secondary being Yr 8-12, and Concordia's addition of yr7 to a secondary school is new (less than 5 years ago) and although not unusual, is not common practice in SA. (yet!) Pdfpdf (talk) 10:33, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And last, (which is what I had intended to say first ... ), excellent job. I like what you've cut out (I wasn't brave enough to do it myself!), and I really like what you've added. By comparison to what you've done, my changes are simply "titivation", and perhaps just pedantic detail. Well done, and thanks. Pdfpdf (talk) 10:44, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

With your deletion of the list of ONU Presidents from the Newington College page you have deleted some old boys who weren't listed seperately on the List of notable Old Newingtonians but who had wiki articles. Should you add those and their dates as Presidents to the notable list so their connection isn't lost? If that is done the deletion of the Presidents list seems reasonable. Head of the River (Victoria)

Hey Loopla, I'm kind of new at this whole editing/writing articles thing so I thought I'd drop you a line. I can see that you've been very active on the rowing pages, most notably the Head of the River (Victoria) page. I have been researching more results & history and have been trying to update it (and fill out what's missing in the results table for instance). I also split off the Head of the Schoolgirls (Victoria) section into its own page, which, i'm sure some people may not like. I think it was necessary because they are two completely independent regattas and they have nothing to do with each other! There's more than enough information to create substantial wiki pages on each. Anyway, cheerio :) Narcissus1x (talk) 07:48, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Concordia pictures

Hi Loopla!

Looking at Image:ConcordiaCollege1905.jpg and Image:ConcordiaGym1921.jpg, I question whether the 1921 photo is of the same building.

Regarding the 1905 picture, that building was constructed in the 19th century (see Annesley College), and was well established by 1905. The left wing (the photographer is looking south, so it is the east wing) was either built before, or at the same time as, the west wing, and the old Chapel is to the east of that. I'm not sure when the old chapel (now called the Suaviter) was built, but it was well before 1921.

Ignoring the east wing, if you look closely at the two photos, you can see significant differences between them. Is the 1905 picture a photo or a drawing? If it's a drawing, that could explain the differences, (but not the east wing!)

Your thoughts?

But we've found that shots sourced through the Picture Australia link which reside on the State Library of NSW site say Not a free image - This image is provided for research purposes only and must not be reproduced without the prior permission of the State Library of NSW. In reading the rationale I imagine if it's a pre-1955 shot then we can just go and use it - copyright has expired. But can the website hosting the shot override this as the Library seems to be doing ? What do you think ? -Sticks66 11:29, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Headmasters table

Hi Loopla, I wonder if you could help me with the Headmasters table on Marcellin College Randwick. It has became too long now and i cant work out how to make it so it can have two columns instead of the one. If you know how to do it, i would appreciate your help. Thx. Thanks for uploading Image:CanterburyGSC.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --04:47, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Victorian Notable Alumni

I have noted your removal of unreferenced and red inked names from the List of notable Old Geelong Grammarians and while I feel most of them are indeed ex-students I suspect you were right in doing what you have done. Looking at the other Victorian schools I feel the same needs to be done to many of them as few if any are referenced. Many of these schools list wiki=linked names but when you check their article there is no reference for their schooling either. In general this whole area needs attention and should be brought up to the high standard you have encouraged in NSW. As for Geelong Grammar I also feel that those that attended Clyde School and The Hermitage (Australia) should be listed on those schools and not on the Geelong list. While they have become members of the Old Geelong Grammarians Association they are not in the strict sense Old Geelong Grammarians as they didn't attend the school. If no article existed for their schools I would think otherwise. I would appreciate your thoughts. Castlemate (talk) 07:35, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copy-editing on Presbyterian Ladies' College, Sydney

I was going through potential school FA candidates and saw that on Presbyterian Ladies' College, Sydney's first FA review there was a call for copy-editing. I've asked User:EyeSerene who has placed it on his queue and looked for more copy-editors at WP:FAT and WP:PRV, but it seems like many of them are overwhelmed with requests. Anyway, as the main contributor to the article, I thought I'd let you know. Best, --Jh12 (talk) 11:23, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When you get the change, please visit Talk:Presbyterian Ladies' College, Sydney. There were a few minor issues that could use your input, and some possible areas for expansion or clarification. Also, I've been working on a slightly revised lead per User:Tony1's FA nomination comments at User:Jh12/Draft4. Thanks, --Jh12 (talk) 05:32, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tintern Schools - Shameful Board of Directors & Bullying Principal

A new website detailing organisational bullying and corruption by the Principal and Head of Southwood Boys Grammar, all with the knowledge and support of the Board Chair and another Director is amazing. It's well worth clicking on the link below for full details (including correspondence, legal proceedings and other primary documents), just to see the extent of the unprofessional, duplicitous and unethical conduct of the people concerned.

Hi,

I was just using wikipedia and noticed your username (Loopla) was logged in. This laptop was bought a year ago, and it was shop return, so I'm guessing that was probably the reason, or you may have picked up our wireless network. Anyway no bother, Just curious to know really.

I've logged you out.

I notice your extensive knowledge on Australian education.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:SydAdventistCollege.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:SydAdventistCollege.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:09, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The King's School, Parramatta

Hi there,

I'd just like your help and support on this, as I can see you are a respected Wikipedia member. In September 2007 (A year ago I know) you said that The King's School Sydney was an appropriate title for The King's School Parramatta because it was the only "The King's School" in Sydney. That isnt true. It isn't "The King's School". It is "The King's School Parramatta". Saying it is the only one in Sydney is like saying it is the only one in Australia. Please, please help me change the name because it is not consistent with Wikipedia's goals of quality.

Plus, TKS Sydney doesnt exsist! Ask the headmaster! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bassoonist123 (talk • contribs) 09:28, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Loopla,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

  • Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
  • It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
  • Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.
  • I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.
2. If you're a law student,
(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)
3. Introduce yourself to me. Law editors on Wikipedia are a scarce commodity. Do knock on my talk page if there's an article you'd like help on.

I think you made a mistake

You recently cautioned me on this page [[3]] about making an unconstructive edit on this page: St. Peters Lutheran College. Not only have I never been near that page, but I also cannot see that someone else has falsely used my IP address there either (it does not appear in the edits). Perhaps you can explain or otherwise please delete the caution.

In early September changes were made to an infobox template that affected the display of hundreds of school crests/logos in the UK schools infobox. This is now being taken care of and you may find the discussions on this page interesting: Template talk:Infobox UK school, do however leave a message here or here if you come across any that are still not displaying correctly.
If you are still actively interested in schools and and are not already a member, and would like to help out on school pages and school templates, you may wish to consider joining the WP:WPSCHOOLS project where you can also stay abreast of developments by adding its talk page to your watchlist. Happy editing!--Kudpung (talk) 03:20, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - advice wanted

Hi Loopla. I'm very new here - so new that I'm not even sure I'm in the right spot to leave you a message! School crests/badges and histories are my hobby and I'm going through wiki pages on schools and finding that some don't have pages at all, and lots don't have logos. I have all the logos on my computer, copied from school websites usually, but I am completely and utterly confused by the copyright laws. I've seen that you've uploaded lots, but that all of them say that they are not out of copyright in the US unless published before 1923 and will be removed.

I have lots of logos of schools, particularly government schools, that were only created since 1954, as the schools were founded after that date, and I was wondering if you can help me at all with understanding the copyright. You seem to post something about "fair use". I have tried, but I'm not sure I know enough yet to go ahead and upload anything.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Careybaptist.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Careybaptist.jpg.

You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 06:57, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation

There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.

As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! File permission problem with File:Brigidineschoolcrest.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Brigidineschoolcrest.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:25, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:MelbGirlsCollege.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Non-free rationale for File:KnoxPipeBand1950.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:KnoxPipeBand1950.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Potentially dead source for File:Florencetaylor.jpg

Hello, and thank you (possibly belatedly) for your contribution to Wikipedia.

Whilst it's almost certainly, not something you could have necessarily foreseen when you uploaded, it appears some media you previously uploaded appears to be currently sourced to a dead link. This isn't your fault as linkrot occurs on a regular basis.

I am leaving this message to encourage you to revisit this upload with a view to finding an archived copy of the media (such as from a site like) archive.org, or to provide additional information which would allow a replacement to be located if needed.

Please consider revisiting it and replace the reference with a link to an archived copy on site such as archive.org, or provide additional information which would allow a replacement source to be located.

Should you wish to discuss this matter further please use the Talk page for the media concerned.

Hurlstone Cig Card wrong version (or incorrectly dated)

Hi, Sorry - I wasn't sure if to edit, or to let you know as the original poster.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:HAHSCigcard.jpg is incorrect, as Hurlstone Ag high School didn't move to Glenfield until 1926, and so this card could not have been 1910-1917. Before 1926 the school was located at Hurlstone Park, near Ashfield, and so the correct Cig Card would be this one https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/items/510d47de-4303-a3d9-e040-e00a18064a99
