The residents of Piffle Sniffly are upset at your actions. The entire hamlet is gathered around the computer putting up this wikipedia article you know. This is the most interesting event in Piffle Sniffly since Joe Pasquale passed through the Hamlet for a few seconds in this car in 2003. Let us have our momment please. Hi

hi jeff....i saw that you took my profile off wikipedia.....i have to tell you a couple of things....i didnt do the original profile of me...someone i dont know did it....one day, i typed my name and the profile telling my history came up.....since that day, i did add a few things that happened to me, but i didnt think it was commercial promotion, i just updated what had happened to me in my professional life...i wont do it again....im not a wiki guy, and i dont understand all the rules and procedures....i apologize for that....would you please consider re-enstateing the profile? i wont attempt to mess with it ever again....everything that is on there is true, and i think its pretty darn notable...ive done lot of good work as an artist and producer, and i would like for people to be able to read about these events.....than you for considering it, jeff! best wishes, mark beam ,markbeam@adelphia.net —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.173.142.145 (talk) 03:19, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is that really {{prod}}? I added CSD template because I was not able to understand about whom it was about, but maybe there is more appropriate CSD. Maybe you know such? vvvt 16:33, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well considering the author's user name is "Cheese Queen" I would have thought the user was the "Lauren" mentioned within the article and as such the appropriate CSD template in this case is debatable. I think it's more of an opinion piece than anything else though. Jeffrey Mall (talk • contribs) - 18:06, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Iro Curmi

Yours is a common problem, but not a deletion reason. See WP:DAB.--Tikiwont (talk) 22:18, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I know what a dab page is but seeing as how the other Iro Curmi hasn't got an article yet it seems a bit pointless to have a dab page in which 1 of the 2 links is red. Jeffrey Mall (talk • contribs) - 23:00, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's not only about dab pages. How about a hatnote of the {{redirect}} type? --Tikiwont (talk) 23:05, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
All well and good but there's no primary topic in this case and the "other use" would still be redlinked. Jeffrey Mall (talk • contribs) - 23:07, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well the current primary topic is the one article we have, which is why we cannot delete the redirect. I've tried a hat note. Feel free to tweak or remove.--Tikiwont (talk) 23:18, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The redirect I tagged was just one that had been left behind after what was supposed to be an uncontroversial move regarding disambiguation in the article title (see this discussion) which turned out to be an error on my part which is why I tagged it for deletion in the first place. The hatnote you've added is somewhat redundant however because the only information the page linked to has on Curmi is that he's currently on loan from another football club. Jeffrey Mall (talk • contribs) - 23:26, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Basically we don't do preemptive disambiguation, so if someone chooses to have a specific title already now, a redirect is the least and just fine till things change. The hatnote is supposed to help anybody who gets bumbed by the redirect there looking for the other guy. Which I understood to be your point of departure. Besides that it doesn't indeed tell anything, but maybe that changes. Having a redlink inside or removing it altogether is fine with me.--Tikiwont (talk) 23:43, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Which is fair enough but the hatnote wouldn't have been needed if you'd simply deleted the redirect,

either way, as we seem to be going round in circles here I'll leave things as they are now and I think it would be best if we called it a day. Regards, Jeffrey Mall (talk • contribs) - 23:58, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FiveBooks

Not sure why you had second thoughts on this. The user does seem to be a SPA, the single purpose being to add these links. I'm not sure it is linkspam, the web site isn't really selling anything, and the links could be legit. But it seems unlikely anyone without a COI would add all these links. Probably bears watching. Rees11 (talk) 15:27, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've just left a note on the users talk page, I'm hoping I can stop this continuous addition of external links without Administrator intervention. As you said, they aren't really selling anything and I wasn't really sure if it was link spam either as there does seem to be some encyclopedic value to these webpages, but as far as a conflict of interest goes I agree with you, it does seem unlikely that this user wouldn't have a COI. But I'll discuss this with them first and see where it goes. Jeffrey Mall (talk • contribs) - 15:35, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Jeffrey,
Thank you for your letter.
FiveBooks asks experts to recommend top reading on their areas. Many experts (FiveBooks interviewees) have their pages on Wikipedia and several interviewees recommend to put a link about their interviews on their wikipedia pages. This links are relevant to these peoples. I'm not trying to spam. it is very easy to check these links by clicking them. Also now, when FiveBooks has its page on Wikipedia I could send a link to our WikiPage instead of external links to five-books.com. I'm a new member for wikipedia and would like to do my best to be a good Wikipedian. thank you- Yours sincerely, Anon111 (talk) - 11:28, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding 18th-Century American Piracy of British Literature

Hey there Jeffrey, Your Edit of the article 8th-Century American Piracy of British Literature created an additional citation error to the one already there. If instead of introducing new errors, in the future use the "show preview" feature to notice that you are introducing an error. I fixed your mistake. Cheers! Babylonian Armor (talk) 00:51, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes thank you, I'm already an avid user of the good ole "Show preview" button and I'm aware of the fact that I introduced another error but I'd only just noticed the {{Underconstruction}} tag and thought it would be best not to edit that page any further to avoid any edit conflicts. Hi Jeffrey, could you please help me: I often use Wikipedia and I think I could contribute to articles by adding photos of people to their wiki-pages: e.g.in Michela Wrong's article there is no photo of Michela. Can I use her photo from other websites, such as [1]? or it is not free? I could also ask Michela to send her photo to me so I could upload it from her permission.. Also [2] has pictures of all interviewees who have wiki articles.. Can I use FiveBook's photos to upload on wikipedia? thank you, Anon111 (talk) 12:36, 16 April 2010 (UTC)Anon111[reply]

Clarification

The IP 173.206.222.117 and 128.100.14.157 are deleting info with references frequently in different pages. It seems that they are against one of the Marjas (Grand Ayatollah Reza Hosseini Nassab) and they are deleting references related to him, without participating in discussion. Can you please review your reversion at Hydrazine sulfate and your vandalism message at my talk page? This edit was incorrect, and converted a long-standing correct statement into something that mis-states the cited reference. Reading through the PDF supplied as a source I noticed at the end it states "it may play a role in reducing the severity of cachexia and in improving the quality of life of cancer patients." Am I missing something here? Jeffrey Mall (talk • contribs) - 10:59, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was looking at the other references, and the original statement was more consistent with those. I guess I missed that particular statement in the cited reference, which presents a slightly different conclusion. Thanks for taking a look. 71.185.32.219 (talk) 11:25, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Why I can't change Egor Lavrov article status if it's improved? And my changes are reverted and you say it's vandalism?

I can tell you right now that this is not an A class article. If the article has been reviewed by an established editor please let them adjust its class. Jeffrey Mall (talk • contribs) - 00:19, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dorothy Dare

Hi, there. I remember that you told me I shouldn't upload any more photographs because they're "inappropriate". I know that it's not the picture itself but just the format in which I chose to categorize them as. Would you mind upload a picture of actress Dorothy Date to Wikipedia and then add it onto her Wikipedia page that I have created. That be very helpful and I don't want to risk getting blocked. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Josh Rumage (talk • contribs) 17:58, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I don't handle images on Wikimedia sites as I know next to nothing about copyright laws. If you need any help with uploading images you should make a post on the help desk. For reverting vandalism on my talk page I appreciate it. Christina Silverman (talk) 02:53, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks, Jeffrey, for deleting the "unauthorized" changes to my user page. Ges, this has been going on for over a month--to me and several other editors involved with a raid that I only vaguely now remember. Their MO is to make frivolous changes to user pages with dynamic or shared IP addresses. If I have my user page protected, then I'm afraid they will locate articles that I have created and vandalize them. I'd rather have them mess with my user page. Annoying, but who ya' gonna call? I do appreciate your diligence!!! Regards, Pinethicket (talk) 11:55, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. If it's indeed that bad or gets that bad it might be worth considering requesting a range block. Jeffrey Mall (talk • contribs) - 12:11, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You once reverted some deletions of referenced material from the Peter Holmes a Court entry. This page has become contentious again and there are now some editors banning contributors for posting referenced material, not the other way around. Please have a look at the entry and the edit history if you have the time.Edasent (talk) 15:35, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Just to clarify, there is a difference between a ban and a block here on Wikipedia, what you've been seeing in logs are blocks, not bans, a block is a technical restriction that prevents an account or IP from editing for any set period of time, a ban is a formal, documented, revocation of your right to edit Wikipedia either in a certain area or Wikipedia in general. I made 2 reverts to the page in question last year to remove vandalism, I am not, and haven't been actively involved in editing the page and as such am unfamiliar with the circumstances, the editorial disputes that may have occured and the apparent SPI that took place. Cheers, Jeffrey Mall (talk • contribs) - 16:19, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for your response anyway. The disputes are similar to the situation you rectified previously where referenced material was removed and replaced with unreferenced or old material. Only this time a sockpuppet has complained WP:NPOV and gotten couple of vigilante admins involved - JzG and Guy - who are blocking editors who add anything they don't like. A case in point is the incorrect listing of 'dead links' and the removal of the latest information about the subject. I think that this is also a form of vandalism. Where 5 sockpuppets have been found active on the page - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/James1168/Archive -. I think one of them was the vandal you previously dealt with. It seems that there is an agenda to portray this subject in the best possible light, despite the availability of verifiable information to the contrary.Edasent (talk) 12:39, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. I looked over the page's history and checked the Peter Holmes à Court's discussion page where I noticed User:Stifle requested quotations from the sources added by yourself, which you did not supply, you were also reverted several times by numerous editors with the general consensus being that you were giving certain viewpoints undue weight and were restoring edits either added by yourself or by another editor that were, put simply, borderline BLP violations. I'm still relatively unsure as to why you came to me however, these are the reverts I made to the page last year, not because they introduced contentious material to a page I was actively monitoring or involved in editing but because they were random acts of vandalism that I happened to stumble across full stop. I am not, and have no intention in getting involved any further with this page or the disputes revolved around it, if you need a second opinion or "outsider input" as it were, you might like to consider making a request for comment on the dispute or if you feel strongly enough about the situation make a post at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Regards, Jeffrey Mall (talk • contribs) - 13:54, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Backlog drive

Hello Jeffrey Mall,

WikiProject Orphanage is holding a month long Backlog Elimination Drive to de-orphan articles which have orphan tags!
The goal is to eliminate the backlog of orphan articles. There are currently 53388 articles which have orphan tags. The drive is running from April 12, 2014 to May 12, 2014.

Awards will be given out for all editors participating in the drive in the form of barnstars at the end of the drive. To add your name in the participants list click here.
So start de-orphaning articles! Click here to see the list of articles need de-orphaning.

deOrphaning script

Hello everyone! I was just working on responding to a couple bug reports for a script that I worked up as part of a request from this project, and I noticed that only a couple people (who weren't even on this mailing list) are actually using the script. A little history on the script: In March of 2014, Jim Cartar came to my user talk page and said he needed some help in acquiring a script for a backlog drive that he was working on that could keep track of and score deOrphanings for a scored backlog drive. I took that request to the project's talk page (BackLog Drive "DO" (De-Orphaning) script proposal) and there was near unanimous support for this. I thought about the proposal and decided the best way to do it was to build a new script (which is still no where near as comprehensive as Manishearth's OrphanTabs) and build into it a mechanism that will make BLD scoring easy.

What I'm wondering at this point is, since there appears to be only two people using the script, should I continue to develop this script with a goal of using it for scoring BLDs or just debug the existing script and leave it at that. Thanks for any replies or comments.

It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
