- RIP, what an interesting life he had. I didn't know him very well, but it appears we had a brief conversation back in 2008. Graham87 07:08, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- I only interacted with JGHowes once, but he was very helpful and very courteous in what could've turned into quite a difficult situation. My sincerest sympathies to his family and friends. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:31, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Such sad news. JGH's was a valued member of the WikiP community and will be greatly missed. My condolences to his friends and family. MarnetteD|Talk 16:08, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Another person I wish I had more time to just talk with. A courteous soul, a helpful disposition, all the wonderful contributions and masterfully written articles but nothing is so impactful as the kind words from one human to another. JGH embodied every ounce of that statement. There are so many ways he contributed to Wikipedia but it is his beautiful kindness and understanding that outshines all of it. You will be so missed here. --ARoseWolf 17:14, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Very unfortunate news, his presence will be missed. RIP. -FASTILY 23:23, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

- We never interacted, but it seems like you were an interesting person. I added information to your article about you being an editor on here. R.I.P. Scorpions13256 (talk) 20:26, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for your years of generosity to the project, both as an editor, and as an admin. You've graduated from airplane wings to angel wings. — Maile (talk) 23:15, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- As others have said, thank you for your years of service and generosity to the projects in all the capacities in which you volunteered, on and off of Wikipedia. We didn't know each other very well, but I express my heartfelt condolences to your friends, family, and all who knew you. The Tampa Bay Times article was a wonderful tribute. May you rest in peace and, as others have said, fly high, James. Fly high. Godspeed. o7 --TheSandDoctor Talk 04:50, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- I don't recall whether we ever interacted, but regardless, you made a Wikipedia a better place for all of us. And I was pleasantly surprised to learn that you, too, had a pipe organ in your house just like my father-in-law (before he retired). Daniel Case (talk) 03:53, 19 October 2021 (UTC)
- Godspeed my friend. --evrik (talk) 21:12, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Protected edit request on 22 March 2023
At the top of this user page, I can see the various icons (i.e. the dinghy, crown etc) are covering up the deceased notice and therefore something needs to be changed to ensure all readers can read the notice whenever they see the user page if they search for the user this way. Thanks, Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 22:26, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
- Done - pushed it down, just vector-2022 being vector-2022. — xaosflux Talk 22:44, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
