Nice job translating Tokke (lake). I edited it for style. There were almost no actual errors in translation, but the writing was a little too subjective in places. I replaced words like "we" and "you," and changed a couple words that were a little too poetic for Wikipedia standards.

This article has been proposed for deletion (by another editor). You're the last person to work on it. In practice, it will surely be deleted unless you can add some sources, such as newspaper articles about his work or reviews. Since he has presented works to the King, there must be news stories. It doesnt matter for the moment if they are in Norwegian. If you can add a source or two, please feel free to remove the proposed deletion tag. DGG 02:51, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Fri Flyt

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Fri Flyt, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. AfD nomination of History of disruptive technology within communications

I have nominated History of disruptive technology within communications, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/History of disruptive technology within communications. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. ZimZalaBim talk 05:19, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Stine Mari Langstrand has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable per WP:MUSIC

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Your edit to Sankt Wendel

I notice you applied the lang template to many proper names, is this now policy? It seems to me that this should only be true if, for example, a place name has a different form in English vs.the native language, such as Cologne/Köln. Peter Flass (talk) 19:56, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I could be wrong but am under the impression that foreign words and at least proper names like Magdalenenkapelle, Hospitalstiftung, etc. should be tagged so screen readers can pronounce them correctly and any foreign characters can be correctly displayed. I had applied it to Basonevillare since it was defined afterwards like a foreign word, and the following few names since they were used as words in an example. Looking at it again, it probably makes more sense to leave the template off the city names, so I removed those tags. Thanks for letting me know. Hi Flod logic. I noticed your question on the welding article. The source only says Grison as the language. I added Swiss just to let the reader know where in the world we're talking about. Glosses

regarding this edit - I suggest that single quotes are not appropriate, because those usages are not simple glosses as mentioned in MOS:DOUBLE and described in Gloss_(annotation)#In_linguistics. The are not simple inline translations, per the examples in Gloss_(annotation) - they are either fully described in text ("The name is derived from the word jarrak, which means 'language' in Kija") or standalone table entries, so ought be in double quotes or no quotes at all. Mitch Ames (talk) 02:16, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. I see now that it makes sense to take them out of the table since it's not running text. Like SMcCandlish here, though, I'm under the impression that "'Simple glosses' just means 'as distinguished from interlinear glosses' (gloss tables)" (whether fully described like your example, or like jarrak 'language'), so should be used in all cases in running text. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like "simple gloss" is actually defined in the MOS. flod logic (talk) 10:57, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
MOS:DOUBLE links "Simple glosses" to Gloss (annotation)#In linguistics, so I think we can reasonably assume that the examples in that section of the article denote the intended meaning. In any case Gloss (annotation) defines a gloss as "a brief notation" - which is not the same as text that is an intrinsic part of the sentence, like "which means 'language' in Kija". In this case I expect a simple gloss would be:
The name is derived from the word jarrak 'language'.

Hi Flod logic, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Lang-xx template

Hi, when going through foreign-language terms, do you think that instead of simply removing lang-en, you could add the English translation to the lang-xx template using the proper lit parameter? Just like this, e.g.: German: Willkommen, lit.'Welcome'. Thanks — kashmīrī TALK 11:24, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I certainly can when appropriate (sometimes lang-en is used to give the standard English name for something as opposed to a gloss). I wasn't aware that it was a parameter of lang-xx so I tried it out now – for some reason it seems that sometimes it is ignored (check out the lang-ms on 3 Suara). Do you know if all lang-xx templates are supposed to have this parameter? Thanks! flod logic (talk) 11:42, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I believe all of lang-xx templates support this parameter. However, it's not the same with lang|xx which you used on 3 Suara. — kashmīrī TALK 21:33, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. Thanks! flod logic (talk) 22:17, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you foir creating Fogd. It does, however, leave me with a few questions. In Denmark. the byfoged and herredsfoged represented the king, whereas the ridefogedwas an intermediary between a local landholderd as the peasants (copyholdera) on his estate. And then there was/is the landfoged, Strandfoged and the Kongens Foged. But no official title simply called the "foged". So from a Danish perspective, foged was not as much an official title as it was a group of official titles. From a Danish perspective, I therefore think it would åerhaps be more useful to have separate articles about these offices (Byfoged has existed as a stub since 2012). Did Norway and Sweden not have any destinctions? Another thing is that, in Denmark, the byfoged and Herredsfoged acted as judges at the Byting/Herredsting. Was this not the case in Norway and Sweden? It would perhaps be useful to introduce subsections about the indicidual Nordic countries to be able to to go into more detail and highlight national differences.Ramblersen2 (talk) 13:22, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your comment. I thought I would create it since there are probably enough articles using that term alone for someone's profession to warrant an article.
I'm not an expert on the topic but from what I understand the situation was similar throughout Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, probably partly due to the shared history. It is used as its own term for an office in all three languages but there were several sub-types of fogder, so it also encompasses a group of titles as you say.
The article on Fogd from Norsk historisk leksikon treats fogd as worth an article of its own but also links to the different types as you mentioned.

Thanks for mentioning Byfoged too, somehow I missed that article. From what I can tell they served a similar role everywhere.
Good idea about subsections. What do you think about having one longer, more comprehensive article rather than multiple separate articles, especially given the overlap between countries and terms? There could be subsections for individual countries/terms when more detail is needed. I see the Danish article at da:Fogde has a list of different types at the bottom, although some are still red links and the articles themselves are pretty short. Maybe it would make sense to combine them all into one article here on English Wikipedia. flod logic (talk) 08:21, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I must admit that I still think that the byfoged/herredsfoged and ridefoged were rather different offices. And I could wprry that having one long article with several different types and four different countries, each with their historical evolution, could easily end up very messy since we will either have to go with type-based or country-based subsections. But if that is the solution you prefer and you think it will work, let's by all means go with it. It is certainly much better with one well-written and informative article like the one you have started than a bunch of useless stubs (crf. the Bugoged one).Ramblersen2 (talk) 09:22, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ridefoged especially. I'm not entirely set on one article as the solution but it is one way to organize it until we have enough information to fill out separate articles. Thanks for fixing my mistake in the beginning of the article. Feel free to add more info! flod logic (talk) 07:56, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
