Please don't imagine some nefarious purpose in my actions or even anything meaningful. Breaking the rules was simply for my own entertainment. I have a habit of pushing boundaries, often to the point of recklessness, for no other purpose than finding it fun. My participation in Wikipedia has always been because I find it fun - it's a hobby. I took playing with Wikipedia too far - I broke the rules just for self-amusement and got caught. There's really no more to it than that. I'm sorry that I caused this trouble. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:18, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
Hi Edgar181, I am required to notify you about a community ban discussion about you at the Administrators' noticeboard. However, between my decision to create the discussion and the implementation of my decision, a similar discussion was already created at WP:ANI. I am sorry for the unnecessary duplicate discussion and notification. Feel free to remove this message when you have read it, unless you'd like to keep it here for whatever reason. I don't want to be "gravedancing" here. Again, sorry. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 16:10, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
- The discussion was eventually held at AN, and the result is that you have been banned by community consensus. Any potential return to editing would need to be predicated on community consensus for your return, as well as committee approval for the lifting of the block. Let me know if you have any questions. –xenotalk 13:25, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Ed. I'm not sure what to say about the sockpuppetry, but whatever your motivations, you did a lot of good work here—both as "yourself" and as Deli nk—so I wanted to thank you for that. I hope you're well, and take care. MastCell Talk 16:23, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, Ed. I hope you're doing OK. I completely agree with MastCell that you did a lot of good work. Bishonen | talk 16:49, 7 December 2019 (UTC).
- I concur with MastCell and Bishonen that you did a huge amount of great work, especially in the area of chemistry articles. You will be missed. --Leyo 23:47, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Ed. I am still puzzled by all this and don't know what to think. Drmies (talk) 16:52, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
- Yah thanks for the work fighting spam over the years.[1] Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 00:01, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
- Also thanks for all the chemical gnome work with images, disambiguation, set pages and redirects. I will add HAPPY CHRISTMAS! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:29, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
- And thanks from me as well for all your chemistry work here and on commons. DMacks (talk) 03:22, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
- Somewhat belated but thanks from me as well. I only just stumbled onto the fact that you've been blocked - I don't as yet understand the reasons. Whatever it was, much of what you did here was good and that input will be missed. --Project Osprey (talk) 13:13, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
- I also am not in the admin loop. You were very helpful to me and to the chemistry community. And it looks like you did all kinds of good outside of the Chemistry work. --Smokefoot (talk) 23:24, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
