Thanks for uploading Image:ChetHelms.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you have questions about copyright tagging of images, post on Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags or User talk:Carnildo/images. 03:14, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

Bruce Eisner, the owner of the website where I got the Helms photo, http://www.bruceeisner.com/, gave me permission to use this image as long as I gave him credit. He stated he merged the picture, citing rights in compliance with Creative Commons, which I believe has a modicum of wiki legitimacy. By E-mail I asked Mr. Eisner if this wd pass the DMCA litmus test and did not receive a response as of 30 April 2007. I told him I thought that Fair Use allowed only portions of works to be publicized so I'll leave the decision to the wiki powers that be.

Be bold

DonL, I encourage you to make edits on pages where you have an interest. Be bold! You're an editor like me or any other wikipedian. Don't let anyone (ie RPJ), tell you different. The info that Karmafist includeed in his welcoming message makes good reading. I especially recommend How to edit a page Have fun!

Just to clarify the above remarks by "Mytwocents:" His/her remarks have nothing to do with the Chet Helms article or image, which was removed, and I replaced with a photo I took at the Helms memorial in SF. Mytwocents was writing of an entry I made to the (Earl) Warren Commission Discussion page, "An otherwise illustrious career.." at [[1]]. While I appreciate Mytwocent's comments, since my opinion focused on Warren's overall career and was not relevant to the Commission report, I never entered it.

Image licenses

Regarding your question at the Help desk, I answered the question there as well but just in case you haven't checked back, here it is: You'll probably want to choose one of the "free" licenses such as Public Domain, Creative Commons or some such. When you click on "Upload file" on the left hand side of the page, you'll be presented with a pull down menu of licenses. Choose whichever one you prefer. Thanks for uploading Image:Wiki_Commons_Batteries.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

License tagging for Image:Four AA batteries2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Four AA batteries2.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 02:07, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the edits on Battery Directive. DonL 23:08, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome, I have also helped edit the references as per wikistyle--Alex 08:47, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again for your help and editing on "Battery Directive!" I liked your implementing superscript "notes." On another question: Using the Firefox browser, when typing, say, "vortexrealm wiki" in the URL bar, my browser is directed to your "Talk" webpage. However when I type "battery directive wiki" it always takes me to wiki's "RoHS" ("Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive"} page. Do you you know how to cause direction to the Battery Directive page? I know you figured out how to change the "d" in my first "Battery directive" title to capital "D." Impressive credentials, by the way. Thanks for your service to the world. DonL 15:52, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure why you are getting this redirect. One way to check what words link to which articles is to go to the article of query, press the "what links here" button, below the wikipedia search bar. On the ROHS page it indicates some things such as "lead free" redirects to ROHS, this clearly isnt correct. See [2]

To rectify the redirect, click on the link to the incorrect redirect, then type #REDIRECT [[New page]] at the head of the page to bring the correct links to the correct article. Hope you understand what I mean! If you need me to change these for you let me know and I will help.--Alex 16:17, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. If you have time, Alex, please do.

Thanks DonL 20:37, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies

My apologies: I edited some pages, including adding and removing text, while categorizing it as "minor edits." The wiki policy is that deletion is more than "minor." I've changed some of the EMC wiki page (which I felt badly needed it) and possibly others without abiding by this protocol. __this section edited June 4, 2010__

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:43, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:DGutierrez.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:DGutierrez.jpg, which you've sourced to D. Gutierrez 2000. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 00:12, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of automated file description generation

Your upload of File:Chet.Helms.Memorial.Tribal.Stomp.October.2006.Golden.Gate.Park.San.Francisco.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks!
